No Shepard Without Vakarian: Garrus Love and Turian Discussion

That said I would be totally ok with Garrus being bi. And I would even be ok with it if it the implementation of it was a bit tacked on (so he just realized his feelings in the last game... oh well its better then nothing) because it would change nothing to my game.
I dont understand how ppl get mad at the fact that s/s romances at the last minute might feel tacked on when they dont even plan on experimenting them. The s/s crowd could have a reason to be disapointed if it doesnt fit in seamlessly with the past 2 games (because theyre the ones who would see it). It should be up to each player to decide if romancing the character they enjoy is more important then the seamlessness of their overall Shepard adventure.
Other then that, it would be nice to have something else to discuss then Garrus and Gavorn's sexual orientation (seems its been only that for the past week). Bioware wheres our new info on Garrus !

Anyway, de-lurking to offer my opinon on the whole sexuality debate...I'm not sure I've jumped the bandwagon. And before you tear me apart for that, let me say: it's not because I think Garrus doesn't "act" like he's into dudes, or because I think homosexuality is icky, or anything stupid like that. I'm just...unconvinced.
Ugh, I don't know how to put it? It's less "I think he shouldn't be bisexual" and more "I'm not sure how the writers will do this and if they'll do it well". Kaidan and Ashley were written to be bi from the get-go and that was later scrapped, so I have substantially more confidence in their writing should they turn up as S/S romances. But I don't think Garrus was ever intended as anything other than a M/F romance, at least not from the start, and I suppose my faith in the post-ME1 romance writing isn't entirely solid - since we've gotten blunders like The Priiize and all sorts of awkward dry humping.
I think Garrus was wonderfully done in ME2, but his was one of the few "new" romances I liked. Overall I found the writing far less convincing. And if S/S was integrated with him in ME3, I'm worried that the pattern will continue, and the writers will try too hard to make problems that aren't there or change his character because they feel like they have to. Which they don't. I'm just wary of whether they'll realize this.
Again, sorry if this is a jumbled mess

It's a tough call, and in the four years since the first Mass Effect was released the same sex issue has evolved so much and in that aspect you are absolutely correct. I see now more and more forms of media approuching it as the norm, which it should be. When I see someone who is gay, or know someone who is, the first thing I think about is who they are as a person and their self, not their sexuality.BubbleSauce wrote...
That's what I'm saying though, I would have thought that there are more of them than there are of us.Annaleah wrote...

Ok, these people are idiots, but they are still cosumers, and there are lots of them, can you really blame bioware for listening to them over us?
Regardless of what Bioware choses to do in this matter, it's going to ****** somebody off. What they have to focus on is pissing the least amount of people off...Well, I wouldn't slate someone for suggesting that mass effect is their attempt at breaking the mainstream console audiance, maybe it's simply a case of bioware underestimating that audiance? I mean stuff like skyrim has shown that the supposedly "mainstream" audiance is perfectly fine with those sorts of things, after ME1 rolled around, bioware said that they were surprised at the amount of people who wanted a romance with Tali, and now we have Skyrim, that allows you to enter same-sex marrage with an argonian. (Which I am totally going to do, if not just for the novelty of being able to be vampire and marry a lizard man.) Ok, so yeah there's a 4 years gap inbetween those games, but how much could the audiance have matured in 4 years?Reptilian Rob wrote...
I honestly never understood why this is such a big deal to begin with in terms of same sex romances in ME. Bioware, in ever iteration of every game they have made had that option implemented. Jade Empire, Dragon Age, hell, even Shattered Steel back in the day had a scene with two pilots who it was insinuated were a same sex couple. It's a dirty double standard Bioware was pulling with Mass Effect and I'm glad Mass Effect 3 is breaking the trend. To simply remove a key character trait that can be ignored if the character wishes them to stay hetro just to influence popularity is something I would only expect from a developer like Bungie or Infinity Ward. You can claim it's a non issue, but speaking to someone who has played most Bioware games (Unfortunately I have missed out on the Dragon Age games, but will fix that soonish) I can't help but feel that Mass Effect was their magnum opus. The culmination of everything they ever did or innovated upon, and it would be a shame to deviate from what you (Bioware) have been doing so well, for so long. And that is the creation of characters and atmospheres that you control, interact with and feel like are real
Perhaps Mass Effect 3 giving us same sex romances when Mass Effect 1 and 2 did not is just showing how far a great percentage of people have matuered and evolved. Although, I still don't understand why Bioware would put that option into almost all of their previous games, and not Mass Effect 1 or 2, it still irks me.

Liara: We won't let you down, Wrex.
Wrex: That's what I'm talking about. I wouldn't want anyone else along for the ride.
Garrus: AHEM.
Wrex: Oh, I guess you can come, too.
Garrus: Gee, Wrex, I thought you'd gone soft from sitting on that throne... Can you still fire a gun?

No... I'm afraid this doesn't make much sense at all. You seem to be worried about the general quality of writing for the romances in ME3 (or even for all of ME3), and if that is so, the question of Garrus's sexuality should be the least of your concerns. Either the writing of Garrus will suck, in which case it will suck for the het-romance as well, or it will be as excellent as can be expected after the previous games, in which case it will be equally excellent for the s/s romace. Adding the s/s option has no bearing on this whatsoever.AlphaDormante wrote...

Again, sorry if this is a jumbled messIf I'm not making sense, I'll boil it down: I'd prefer Garrus stay heterosexual than get crummy writing for a S/S romance. But if he does end up romanceable by DudeShep and it's convincing and nice and stays true to his character (because it doesn't need to change), I am totally on board.

Eh, they make Garrus Bi, they don't make Garrus Bi. I don't really care. I just want them to make Kaidan Bi. I've been wanting to bone that Biotic since ME 1. And even if they don't make Kaidan gay, some guy's going to get "indoctrinated" in ME 3 if you know what I mean.
