@LuskeRikke, your comic is hilarious! If that's going to be a common theme in ME3, I'll be facepalming a lot.


I'm working on a Garrus pic, but it may take days until I can finish it. I'm slow. And I still haven't decided whether I should limit myself to pencil or use something else. Hmmm...

Couple days ago I reloaded 1 my canon femshep file of me2 & i was running around the citadel out of boredom and saw some turians with short fringes. I thought they were just so cute,  but i couldve help but laugh and grin because I had Garrus with me and thought  to myself : "Heh. Garrus' is longer than yours."

Ok, so I read it as well. At first I didn't want to say anything, but since everybody's talking about it...

I didn't find it too kinky. I've read much worse. The writing is pretty good (especially in the beginning), and I like how the dialogs flow even though nobody is actually saying much. But overall I didn't like it for several reasons:

First, the quality of writing changes sharply along with the subject matter. It's almost like the romantic and smutty parts were written by two different persons.

Second, this story prominently features each and every one of the things I dislike about Garrus fanfiction in general. From the allergy thing, over the choice of "alien" things to ascribe to turian anatomy and behavior, to the sad fact that there always has to be pain and blood involved. Why, oh author, why?

Third, the "epilogue" was so amazingly out of place, trying to get back from pure smut into "serious" conversation. What fun I had with the kinky bits quickly evaporated with that ending.

So yeah, it was that  bad. And still it kept me reading. Go figure.

Ty for actually bringing that point up. Thats the one gripe I have about GarrusxFemshep FF. Seriously. Stupid allergy thing. So annoying >.<
 
and i think the whole epilogue was just made for fun on the authors part. Since the reporter was involved in the story for a small part - i believe the epilogue took place in the LOTSB dlc because of a certain new vid in one of the terminals. Possibly inspiration for that epilogue in particular most likely. I think the author couldve written something else [i agree wit ya] - but nonetheless it was still pretty funny that Garrus took "revenge" on that reporter.

I lost count of the times where I'd read some garrusxfemshep fanfiction where it's all lovely and romantic and then suddenly garrus "couldn't control himself" or his primal side kicks in and suddenly everything gets violent  and bitey. Or the reverse happens and femshep is TRYING to get garrus to be more rough and it’s just so OOC because I could never see Garrus hurting femshep intentionally or being unable to control himself

Yeah, I haven't read as much fanfiction as I would like to, so I haven't had the pleasure (Or in some cases, displeasure) of reading a lot of the garrusXfemshep fiction, I want to read some more over the summer though. I also tend to stay away from the overtly sex driven fan-fictions. I far prefer stuff like the spirit of redemption (which is fantastic so far might I add, and if anyone hasn't read it thus far, then they should do so) in which there is sex involved, but it doesn't engulf the relationship, and there's a main story to follow, as opposed to simply hanging on the relationship itself, and basing the story behind it, on what's already been established, not that that's a bad thing, I just like fan-fiction that goes that extra mile by putting their own spin on the universe, and the only way you can really do that, is by setting it after or before, what has already been established by bioware.

That aside, i agree there are some weird tropes in Garrus FFs. I read that last one and i cant make myself see it like a single story. To me its 2 just put end to end. the writer is pretty good tho, just the construction was forced. I havent read a lot of FFs for other character but i have the impression Garrus ones are of the wider range, from him completely clumsy and awkward to something very animal. But he also gets some strong friendship stories which i like too.

@BubbleSauce: Based on what you just said - I think ud find these 2 fanfics very pleasing. Theyre quite popular and I highly recommend them to whoever hasnt read them.

They actually are based on the game [including game events and such] and the progression of the relationship throughout. Sure theres some "steaminess", but only in a chapter or two. Its definitely not the center focus of the FF. It focuses more on the relationship as a whole.

This is probably the main reason I stay away from ME fanfics. I don't mind the fact that there might be some unintentional clawing/scratching/chafing, but I don't like the 'turians are animals with wild urges beyond their control!' bit, where they can't stop themselves and they have to bite their 'mates' and such. I don't approve of this weird fanon that makes turians out to be animalistic and primal in stark contrast to what we see in-game; generally civilized, honorable people. It seems to undermine the defense against the 'bestiality' and 'furry' comments we're always getting.

I couldn't get into that story long before it got to the smut though, I have kind of unrealistic IC standards, which is why I can't get into fanfiction much in general, and I just don't think Garrus would act that way. For someone who argued for keeping the Collector Base, for killing the Council and for using the Genophage, I can't see him getting that upset with his only friend in the galaxy for stopping the Reapers at the expense of those batarians. Garrus has always been an 'ends justify the means' type of person.
