And you know who else I miss? Li! [Lilihierax] That guy was just so darn cool ^_^ Brooklyn turian! XD

Yes! Finally, I thought I was the only one who likes Li. :D
Too bad we can't interact with him more, he seems to be the most unique Turian in ME.

I also liked Chellick, he had pretty green eyes. I could stare at them for hours.=]

If it turns out that the Reapers have taken a lot of turians from Palaven or other colonies, I wouldn't be surprised about the similarity. Before Evolution, I thought the exotic-looking fringe was only in Saren's family (I always imagined his brother had it too), but many others had the same kind of fringe in the comic. Only Desolas had a strong resemblance to Saren though. In the first comic, before they brightened his colors and gave him tattoos, I guessed he was Saren until they said his name. xD And if one of the Reaper-combined monsters doesn't have that style of fringe, I'd say it was just a design decision. Which looks cooler?

I like Saren's fringe. Reminds me of a mustache (at least in some fanarts).

About Saren's fringe.

It is natural. It did not develop additions on account of the contact with Sovereign or reaper artifacts. Evolution is set almost a decade before Saren meets Sovereign, and in it, he already has the... anomalies. I call them "horns."

It is a genetic trait. Both Saren and his brother Desolas have them, and they both had them before any contact with reaper technology.

It is not at all common. If anyone can show me a single turian that is neither Saren nor Desolas, with this kind of fringe, I will be happy to correct my statement, but until then, I have to insist: it is unique for Arterius brothers.

EDIT. On second thought, I don't really believe they are the only turians out there with this trait. But I maintain that it is certainly not common.

Now. I haven't seen much material from ME3 and I do not want to be spoiled. But if it is true that all turian husks have fringes like that, I will be very saddened and disappointed because it would mean that Bioware sees Saren as a symbol of evil and corruption and, worse still, that they think all the fans associate Saren's unique features with nothing but evil and corruption. I'm not saying this association is unfounded. But it is flattening and oversimplifying and in the eyes of a fangirl like me, it's a definite insult to a beloved character.

What can I say? Garrus is without doubt one of the best, if not the best, squad member and friend in the whole Mass Effect universe. I even doubt that there is one person who dislikes Vakarian and that's mainly because the guys from BioWare did an excellent job with his character. He's charismatic, interesting, charming and good looking... His philosophy and morality fits him perfectly and that's why almost everyone likes him so much. He's also Turian, which is always a plus in my book - and I can't wait to have him in my team in ME3.

PS: Even if I love Garrus with all my heart, my favorite Turian remains Saren.

Really? Most turian fans think Li is awesome!

That Chellick fanart is really cool. Another thing I like about turians, besides fringes, is their bright eyes. :D

I've seen the evil mustache theory before. xD My favorite is still "it gives him wi-fi."

It's definitely a minority trait in turians, but there are quite a few in Evolution who have it. The only one I could find a picture of online at the moment is this guy on the first page of volume 1 (link to BioWare blog preview).

Also, if you have Evolution #1, check out the crowd around Lieutenant Abrudas, the female turian. There are some turians with that kind of fringe in her squad. In the picture where TIM's vehicle is pulling up to her group, you can see two of them. In the picture above, there's another turian with fringe like that, and the stripes on his uniform are orange instead of black, so he's a different guy than the two from the other image. :)

And now that I've looked again, I can say for sure that contact with a Reaper artifact does not change basic fringe shape. Most (if not all) of the turians who touched the Arca Monolith have normal fringe.

Indeed, especially Lorik. In my opinion lorik has one of the best voice directions. He is suave, he gives an outside looking in approach to humanity, manages to sound like he is chewing on a corncob pipe and twirling a glass of fine wine, and (mostly) keeps his cool under pressure.

VO wise noveria was amazing.

All this.
This is how Im feeling right about the whole thing. Im confilcted and insulted. Thats why Im kinda bringing up the whole comparison. Its bothering me.
I LOVE Saren [as a villain]. And his character design was spot on for being unique. Seeing as I havent read evolution [and before it was even made] - I just pegged his fringe was like that so he was more "dynamic" since he was practically the games' antagonist. No other character was even remotely similar to Saren and I found that quite alluring. Now I see these lone husikified turians with the same fringe and Im fearing that BW is associating Reaper manipulation with Saren. Reaper flattery or not, or tribute to Saren? - Im not liking it Posted Image
Brutes [turian + krogan mix] have the "normal" fringes we see most turians have, but the lone huskified turians do have it T-T Explain bioware! Rawr.

sorta off topic - Omg I finally completed my original canon Shepard that Im using 1st into ME3. YAY!
100% complete ME1, and now 100% me2. I want to see him alive in me3 in at least one playthru. Not sure if I want to fix my maleshep ninjamance in me1 where i got glitched by ashley >.> I probably will load up my file prior to virmire, do the locker scene full renegade and take it from there.

There are a lot of great turians on Noveria. Lorik, Li, that guard who wants a donut...

It'll be awesome to go back there in ME3. Noveria was one of my favorite locations. It's too bad I won't be able to see the result of giving Lorik the data on my first playthrough (I messed it up, have no time to replay that FemShep before ME3, and I have to play her first to see the outcome of the Garrus romance), but I guess someone has to play out the other options and tell you guys how it turns out, right? xD

@Arcana: I think that is the reason why Saren was so different from the other turians shown in the games so far, because he's an important character and they wanted him to stand out. It probably had something to do with not wanting to make extra character models too. That's why we haven't seen any female turians in the game yet. It's understandable that they didn't want to add in extra turian models just to show different fringe types. Evolution was a good way to show that there are others out there with fringe like Saren's (although I was disappointed with the appearance of female turians). Saren still has a completely different body type when you compare him to other turians. :)

Congrats on finishing your playthrough! You're lucky that choosing the Renegade dialogue in the lockdown scene actually ends the trap romance for you... I tried it, and I got nothing. Poor Talimance MaleShep. Even Virmire's not a solution for him. *has to replay his game again to recruit Liara last now*

Crap. I'm doing Noveria now with Liara (b/c of her mother). Would it be safer to do Feros without her first? I was using the 'avoid her' strategy.

I think as long as you stay away from her personal conversations, anything that's not mission-related, you should be fine. I tried to go through all of the squadmate conversations for once, and that turned out to be a big mistake, so I'm just recruiting her last to be extra safe. xD

The romance glitch with Liara happens if you choose "I'm not interested" instead of "Let's be friends." My MaleShep didn't want to be friends...

The bright side of needing to replay him again: Saren, Nihlus, ME1 Garrus with the perfect armor I found for him, Lorik, Li, clicking on the donut turian way too much, Septimus, Chellick, smart remarks to the turian councillor... and also his relationship with Tali. And Wrex. At least the game is so much fun, I won't mind it.

Good points. :) Now that I've learned how to manage the Mako and at least deal with the sniper rifle, I'm having a lot more fun. I've talked to both Kaidan and Liara once, and I know I reloaded after Liara. I can't remember if I reloaded after Kaidan, but I also didn't choose anything that looked blatant. We'll see.

Yeah, the things we'll go through for Garrus, our Shepards, perfect playthroughs... I think most of us here have either played through ME1 an extra time, or just really fast, to get a FemShep who stayed single for Garrus into ME2. It was the "really fast playthrough" for me. I bought ME1 a few months before ME2 came out, played a MaleShep, found out online that Garrus would be a romance option, and rushed a FemShep. xD

I still can't use sniper rifles in ME1. Maybe it's because I tried them out on a Vanguard.

Yeah, Canon!Shep is an infiltrator, so that doesn't hurt. I just keep reminding myself that the Infiltrator awesomeness is coming assuming I don't get ninjamanced by someone and have to use a really old save...

HA! Me1 romances, glitchy like nuts. Posted Image
Ive been researching and trying out trial and error methods to avoid such things.

When Liara starts talking bout how shpeard "intrigues" her - she'll ask about having any relation to Ash/Kai [depending on gender]. Just choose "Its not serious." She'll then ask if shep is interested in her. Choose either the neutral "I just want to be friends." or the renegade "You were wrong." After that - she'll back off the in the romance department.

As for kaiden - In his 1st conversations - its ok if you select the paragon options at the start. He's just talking about his past and such. When he's nearing the end saying "Anyways this was supposed to be a casual debrief, not a bull session about stuff that happened years ago.", select either the neutral "I want to know my crew" or the renegade "You're right". Me i pick the neutral. Afterwards I just pick the "To some degree" when he asks about Shepard "making a habit of getting this personal with everyone." In all honesty - you can paragon the 1st chat since its not a "romance chat". Its the 2nd one that counts! At the VERY end [of a rather lenghty chat] - he'll ask if he's "out of line to say the word." Well....say it! LOL Select the renegade "You're out of line." and he backs off the romance. Done.

@Kim: the renegade locker scene dont work for you? Posted Image Hmmm. So Kaiden still comes to Shepards quarters even after that?

Oh garrus - look at the trouble we go through to be with you! Its like we have to beat them off with sticks XD
I always imagined 2 scenes that took place with my shep. One real - one just for lulz.

*garrus underneath mako, doing repairs* [Suddenly hears footsteps and looks to see who it is]
Shepard: *smiling down at him* Hey Garrus. Got a minute?
Garrus: *curiousity peaking* Eh, Sure Shepard. Need me for something?
Shepard: Actually I do. But more in the sense I need something FROM you.....
Garrus: *gives a confused gaze to Shepard and stands up to see her face to face* What is it exactly that you need?
Shepard: The pole up your ass.
[Wrex laughs in the distance]
Garrus: Wait what?!
Shepard: I need it to beat off some admirers that dont seem to get the message that Im not interested. I just need it for a few minutes and I'll return it to you.
Posted Image~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That was for lulz. THIS I see happening[or at least in MY headcanon it happened once]:
*Garrus working on terminal, but then hears the elevator doors open*
Garrus: *sees Shepard coming towards him* Oh hey Shepard. How are -----
*Shepard opens door to mako, goes inside and shuts the door*
Garrus: Um...Shepard? What are you---
Shepard: SHHHHH! Kaiden is looking for me!
Garrus: And that's a problem? I thought you two got along well.....
Shepard: Yea but he wants something MORE! And I keep telling him "Im not interested" but that guy is stubborn! Do me a favor, and tell him Im NOT here!
Garrus: But....
*Kaiden steps out of elevator*
Kaiden: Hey Garrus. Sorry to interrupt your repairs of the mako and such, but have you seen Shepard?
Garrus: *glances at the mako quickly* Shepard? No I can't say that I have. Have you checked in with Joker? She's probably up in the CIC if anything. You know her, always gazing at the galaxy map.
Kaiden: Yea, you're probably right. If you see her, can u tell her Im looking for her?
Garrus: Sure thing.
Kaiden: Thanks. *walks away and into the elevator*
Shepard: .......*whispers* Is he gone?
Garrus: Yea, he's gone.
Shepard: Oh thank goodness---*opens mako door slowly*
Garrus: Oh wait, here he comes again.
Shepard: AW S***!*slams door*
Garrus: Im kidding. Heh.
Shepard: Garrus, you bastard. Dont do that. *sits on the egde of the mako's opening*
Garrus: .Couldnt help myself.
Shepard: Well, considering you just helped me out - I'll let it slide.
Garrus:.....So........sorry if Im going out of line for asking, but you dont want to be with Kaiden THAT way I presume?
Shepard: Obviously. The guy gets an A for effort. But he's not for me.
Garrus: ......By your human female standards, I figured he was handsome? Handsome loyal soldiers not your thing?
Shepard: He's handsome alright. But like I said. Just not my kind of guy.
Garrus: So what is your "kind of guy"?
Shepard: *mischievous grin* Why you asking Garrus?
Garrus: *drops wrench by accident and looks all nervous* I---um----No reason!
Shepard: Really? You seem so curious.
Garrus: Just, you know, carrying the conversation is all. I should get back to work, Shepard. The mako wont last long during your next "adventure" if I dont finish repairing it.*picks up wrench*
Shepard: Oh ok then. I'll let you work. *gets off mako and shuts door*
Garrus: I'll be here if you need me. *garrus heads back under mako*
Shepard: *takes a few steps but turns back*.....To answer your question - I'd like someone different than the norm. Someone who can stand toe to toe with me, and isnt afarid to express his opinion. Someone who'd go through hell itself with me and back. Just being there when I need him.
*gently taps garrus' foot with her own*
Shepard: Thanks for being there for me, Garrus. *walks away and into the elevator*
Garrus: .........*blush*.....Anytime Shepard.

@Ursula: My MainShep's a Sentinel. I have some Infiltrators planned, Soldiers who use sniper rifles, and others who will go through sniper training in ME2, like when I get around to replaying Garrus' FemShep. But I really failed at aiming. It's strange because I have all these favorite characters who are sharpshooters, Garrus included. Maybe that's why they're so amazing to watch. ^^;

@Arcana: Actually, Kaidan gave my FemShep no problems. He thought she was sending him signals, but when she said no, he backed off and they remained good friends (until Horizon). I didn't have an issue with Ashley either. MaleShep must have said something that shut her down because the subject of romance never came up. I loved how realistic that was. The two of them really had nothing in common besides being tough Alliance soldiers, so they disagreed on everything from religion to aliens and family views... and managed to remain civil with the rare heated debate. The glitches seem to change from game to game, in some cases.

Liara is the one who trapped MaleShep. >_< Poor guy never said one nice thing to her. "Beat 'em off with sticks" is right. I imagine another Shepard of mine, Carson (the crazy Earthborn Ruthless), would compare it to prison.

Carson: Prison was easier. Someone looks at you the wrong way, you kill them. The Alliance tends to frown on that. Garrus, I'll be in the Mako. I don't trust the locks on the captain's quarters. This bedroom has a gun attachment.
Garrus: Posted Image

Ha ha! That was gold!

And about the ME1 romances, I didn't have a problem with Kaiden, but Liara on the other hand will not quit. It's not a glitch but "canon/story-wise" or something. My shepard makes it painfully obvious in ME1 (to both Kaiden and Liara) that she's not interested in either of them. Kaiden backs off and stops trying to "whoo" her for the next two games. Liara on the other hand backs off for a short time, but when Shepard died she starts collecting her armor, displaying them in her room in glass boxes, keeps Shepard's dog tags for herself, etc. Some fans who romanced her might find it "romantic" or "sweet". My Shepard on the other hand finds it creepy and stocker-ish. I haven't read the comics but, she has a drell guy with her this whole time but it seems like, IMO, she wants Shepard and only Shepard. I think I remember in LotSB she even tries to convince Shepard about "how they were still meant for each other" or something like that.  Even when that same Shepard already told her no the first time and is now hot for a certain Turian in blue. I wouldn't be surprised if she tries to make Garrus "disappear" in ME3.

(Now that I thought about it, that would be funny if she does try that in the next game. lol)

Shepard: The pole up your ass.
[Wrex laughs in the distance]
Garrus: Wait, what?!
Shepard: I need it to beat off some admirers that dont seem to get the message that Im not interested. I just need it for a few minutes and I'll return it to you.

(Now that I thought about it, that would be funny if she does try that in the next game. lol)

Edit: Sorry, I can not resist to post this..

After LotSB, all I can see in Liara is crazy...[i]Shepard-crazy.

I've never had a problem with Liara, I probably managed to avoid the ninjamance glitch but when I told her I wasn't interested she stopped with the creepy.

And in LOTSB, the vibe I got from her was that shep and liara are friendly enough to joke around with each other, the driving bit and the banter on the shadow broker ship were hilarious.

And iirc, wasn't it admiral Hackett who gives her your dogtags? or does it depend on what decisions you make in the first game?
