And iirc, wasn't it admiral Hackett who gives her your dogtags? or does it depend on what decisions you make in the first game?

I think Liara got them from Admiral Hackett and then she gave them to you.

It is not at all common. If anyone can show me a single turian that is neither Saren nor Desolas, with this kind of fringe, I will be happy to correct my statement, but until then, I have to insist: it is unique for Arterius brothers.

It's definitely a minority trait in turians, but there are quite a few in Evolution who have it. The only one I could find a picture of online at the moment is this guy on the first page of volume 1 (link to BioWare blog preview).

Also, if you have Evolution #1, check out the crowd around Lieutenant Abrudas, the female turian. There are some turians with that kind of fringe in her squad. In the picture where TIM's vehicle is pulling up to her group, you can see two of them. In the picture above, there's another turian with fringe like that, and the stripes on his uniform are orange instead of black, so he's a different guy than the two from the other image. :)

Fair enough. I desist. :)

And now that I've looked again, I can say for sure that contact with a Reaper artifact does not change basic fringe shape. Most (if not all) of the turians who touched the Arca Monolith have normal fringe.

Well I'm glad that's settled.

But if it is true that all turian husks have fringes like that, I will be very saddened and disappointed because it would mean that Bioware sees Saren as a symbol of evil and corruption and, worse still, that they think all the fans associate Saren's unique features with nothing but evil and corruption. I'm not saying this association is unfounded. But it is flattening and oversimplifying and in the eyes of a fangirl like me, it's a definite insult to a beloved character.

All this.
This is how Im feeling right about the whole thing. Im confilcted and insulted. Thats why Im kinda bringing up the whole comparison. Its bothering me.
I LOVE Saren [as a villain]. And his character design was spot on for being unique. Seeing as I havent read evolution [and before it was even made] - I just pegged his fringe was like that so he was more "dynamic" since he was practically the games' antagonist. No other character was even remotely similar to Saren and I found that quite alluring. Now I see these lone husikified turians with the same fringe and Im fearing that BW is associating Reaper manipulation with Saren. Reaper flattery or not, or tribute to Saren? - Im not liking it

Yes. The bolded part.

Don't think this is a "tribute" to Saren. It's much cheaper than that, I'm afraid. They're making it a visual clue that something's indoctrinated, corrupted, and that it should be treated without mercy.

:crying:

I wouldn't say they're using it to invoke Saren. More that they're using it for the same reasons they gave that style of fringe to Saren: to set him apart from the 'friendly' turians, as anything sharp is going to look less inviting. It also has use as a 'horn' shape, espiecially when paired with The Kubrick Stare[tm].

Concept artists put a lot of weight into silhouette. 'Friendly'  turians, when seen straight on, actually tend to have very round faces. Which yes, I suppose sort of fits the complaint- but artists are but mere men. These tropes work really well visually.

Honestly, I think their only reason for using the same kind of fringe that Saren has on some of the Reaper-modified turians is because it looks cool... mission accomplished. I can't wait to see them in-game.

@Pyn: That's awesome! I like Garrus' recolored outfit too.

Ah that clears it up (for a part of it), but now the key words are "when did she get them from Admiral Hackett"....>.>

...I'm killing her off the first chance I get in ME3...you know, just to be safe.:?
Too bad I can't leave her off on Virmire

But seriously, in ME3, if I ever get the chance to kill her, I will gladly take it. Long story short, I got ninja-romanced by her (even after Shepard rejected her), it was "supposed" to be the playthrough to continue through for ME3 and I was done with over 80% of the game (which took long, hard hours to complete), had no saved points before the event, have to start over, and, overall, tired of Liara's BS over the course of 2 games.

Besides, if Garrus, Tali , Wrex, Ashley, and Kaiden can't get a "get-out-of-death" card in ME1 &2, why should Liara? Fair is fair, right?

Poor Garrus being taken away from those collector-bees...*sigh*. :(

That's exactly what happened to me, TNT. I had almost finished a perfect playthrough with my MaleShep. It took three or four months, it was right before Ilos, and I thought he would finally get to romance Tali soon. Then it was clear that there was no way out of the romance trap. I still haven't replayed the poor guy. I'll do the same, kill her if/when the option becomes available in some of my ME3 playthroughs, or just not talk to her. My Garrus romance playthrough is first in line. I can't let anything mess that up. ;) Even in ME2, I couldn't let that FemShep talk to Jacob. Too flirty. I had to be safe.

The things we go through for Garrus...

Ya know, seeing the pics of wrex made me think of this:
Posted Image

Anyone think Garrus kept in contact with anyone after the whole me1 adventure? Something tells me that besides Shepard, he kept in contact with Tali. Or at least in my headcanon he did. When Shep was declared dead - I really think Wrex tried to console him. Garrus probably stayed isolated and kept things bottled up, but someone mustve caught on that he was hurt in more ways than one. I do think Tali reached out to him and they kept in contact for awhile before he cut ties and left to Omega. As for Wrex - we all know wrex isnt mushy. Heck, when Shepard asked about his family he said "Are you trying to make me cry, Shepard?" XP But I do think he tried to keep Garrus well....intact, so to speak.
I could definitely see Wrex finding out that Garrus has been losing his way months later and comes barging into his apartment to get him out of his slump.

*wrex knocks on garrus' apartment door*
Garrus:....Wrex? What are you doing here?
Wrex: Heard you lost your quad.
Garrus: *sigh* Funny Wrex. How did you even get through C-Sec customs?
Wrex: Helping to save the Council gives me perks.
Garrus: You must be riveting that fact then. Why come to see me...I bet your here for the supposed "fish" on the presidum.....
Wrex: HA! I tried. Some C-Sec officier tried to "advice" me to stop til he saw who I was. Pissed his uniform like a newborn vorcha. But Im not here for that. Im here to get your cr@p back together.
Garrus: Go away Wrex....Not in the mood. *sits at a desk, messing with a datapad*
Wrex: *grabs datapad and throws it across the room* Stop acting like such a whelp.

Id type more in but I might just end up writing some short fanfic XD Anyways, Wrex would drag Garrus to have some drinks and such. Kinda giving him the brotherly tough love. Wrex aint afraid to say it how it is, even if its harsh. But its stuff Garrus needs to hear, and Wrex is the only one qualified to do it.

In my head canon the *crew went out drinking after Shepard's memorial and Wrex and Ashley had to carry Garrus back to his apartment. Ashley was staying with him (Garrus was taking the sofa) and in the morning Garrus woke up on the sofa and only when he trips over Wrex's armour does he realise that Wrex spent the night there as well. I don't know how long Wrex and Ashley stuck around on the Citadel, but TIM says in ME2 that Wrex hasn't left Tuchanka in over a year so he could have stuck around on the Citadel for almost a year after Shep died or made trips between the Citadel and Tuchanka. Ash was probably sent back on duty pretty soon after the funeral.

*the crew = surviving squaddies (not sure if Liara and Tali would go), Joker and Engineer Adams (I almost typed Pressley but then I realised he went boom with the Normandy, but if he'd survived he'd probably go with them)

My guess is it's the Turian/Krogan husk that BW mentioned

The Sarendoctrinator wrote...

I guess I don't see it as strange because in Evolution, it seemed like turians with Saren-style fringe were pretty common. He also had the same fringe on the cover of Revelation, which happened before he came into contact with Sovereign. I agree that the female turians weren't what I thought they would be, but I got used to them, and the turian kid was exactly as I imagined.

Do you have a screencap of the turian kid?

Sry I mustve been misleading. A meant tribute as a bad thing. I dont agree with it and didnt really know another word to use. I dont like how theyre using the design as an equivilant to evil.Posted Image

Okay, I take that back. Garrus garrus garrus garrus garrus.

Yay hilarious dialog for everyone!
And I actually love Liara. I wouldnt romance her, but I LOVE her as family [not as much as I do Wrex but close]. At first I just liked her, she was one of my least favs in me1. But in me2 - she slowly gained more and more respect from me. Shadow Broker dlc = I loved her. The sacrifices she made and such. Having that one on one chat with Shep, asking what she's fighting for [and even mentioning Garrus] - Yep. Liara's awesome.

Hey! You're right! Now it all further proves my head canon Posted Image Though I just see Wrex hanging about for awhile - give or take a month or two maybe, not an entire year on the citadel. I imagine he went back to mercenary work or just traveling before figuring out his plans to strengthen the krogans as a whole and heading back home.

Yea I found out earlier this week while digging up on me3. *research* Posted Image

So, I've never really understood shipping Fshep and Nihlus before, but I recently read 'Supernova' by Echo Alexia (www.fanfiction.net/s/6424858/1/Supernova) which was soooo freaking awesome and I'm now a proud convert.  Does anyone have any other good Fshep/Nihlus fics to recommend? Blatant smut is totally acceptable but definitely not required. :innocent:

I thought this might be a good place to ask :)

There are some awesome turian pictures here. :D And news that Garrus will get jealous/protective in ME3? Yay! Keep those flirting asari who can't keep their hands off Shep far, far away from her. It always annoyed me when stuff like that happens and Shep, possibly a love interest too, just stands there. I support Renegade interrupts.

Demonique wrote...

I'm not sure if we're allowed to post full-page images of the comics... but that's the only clear one I could find on google. This one is less clear, but hopefully it's a good enough view of the turian kid with his mom. Basically, turian kids seem to have shorter height, fringe, and mandibles than the adults.

She reminds me of my MainShep, who would beat up anyone that dares to insult Saren's glorious fringe. xD Except MainShep's not dating anyone else, so she was nothing to feel guilty about. It's her twin who got together with Garrus.

Wow. I forgot this thread even existed. Don't think I've actually dropped by yet... Welp, now's as good a time as any. And I come bringing some gifts chock full of Garrusy goodness! Mass Effect fever has gripped hold of me again with ME3 coming up, and so naturally I've gone all turian-tastic again. So without further adieu:

Uno
and Dos

Hope I haven't lost my touch with all this time spent on "school" and the "real world" (not the MTV one). Enjoy!
