Hey, didn't Garrus say there was a batarian on his Omega squad? How would your Colonist Sheps feel about that? Mine would be surprised that Garrus managed to find a good batarian somehow, and that the batarian was not the traitor. I don't think they've met a good batarian before ME2.

I have to add here that as a war hero, my canon Shepard is also dubious at best. The Skyllian Blitz didn't score them any points with her. She's pretty paragon, so she's a little more likely to go case by case rather than just shoot on sight, but...yeah. There's only one type of non-Reaper/Collector alien that she really doesn't like, and that's Batarians.

My main Shepard is a Colonist/War Hero so she's had quite a lot of Batarians messing with her life. She's also a Paragon (mostly) and strongly wants to unite all races, so she has no hate for the batarians as a whole but finds it more difficult to like them, (and easier to kill them) than most other races. I like to think She's a bit biased against them. Not completely racist against them,
though because each individual has the ability to think and act for itself. She felt horrible during Arrival. She would never have wanted that, even with her past. She hates the loss of any form of life, but she will fight for what she thinks is right. I like to think that Elysium was a way to atone for the loss of her family and friends, and that she's come to terms with her loss and has moved on. As for the question at hand, I agree, Garrus has good judgement, so I don't think that she would really dwell on it.

Sorry for ranting about my Shepard. I love to roleplay. I've thought of doing the same thing..Playing through ME1 and 2 and writing a fanfic based on it, but I'm a terrible writer!

I think there might also have been a krogan on his squad, I wonder what their working relationship was like what with the whole krogans having a grudge against turians thing

Wow, there are a lot of people who romance Garrus with a Colonist/War Hero! My MainShep and the FemShep I have for Garrus both share this background (they were made to be twins/clones with a few differences), and they both hate batarians, but MainShep is definitely the more extreme of the two. As an example, MainShep's hate for batarians is probably even worse than what Saren had felt for humans, killing them whenever she has the chance, while her twin is the type who would try not to see them all as slavers even though it's hard. She keeps the one in the quarantine zone alive only because she wanted information from him, but when he made a comment later about humans not being all bad, it went a long way torwards helping her see them as a species that isn't entirely evil. If Garrus trusted the batarian on his team, she believes that he was trustworthy.

MainShep has different feelings about it... though she would never come right out and say this to Garrus. She does believe that Garrus is a good judge of character, but everyone, including herself, can make mistakes in who they trust. In her opinion, Sidonis was not worthy of Garrus' trust, and wouldn't have been surprised if the batarian betrayed him when given the opportunity. (Yes, she is completely biased against batarians. And she does not deny that.) She's trusted people that betrayed her too, even more recently than Garrus' situation on Omega, so she worries about him sometimes. MainShep can be an insanely overprotective friend.

I'm glad to see other people put as much thought into their Shepards as I do.

I forgot about the whole turian/krogan grudge. Garrus did have a line about thinking all krogans were violent mercs (or something to that effect) before he met Wrex, and that's probably all he saw in his C-Sec background. It's likely that Wrex is the one who changed his mind. They seem to get along really well later on.

Woot! Just finished my ME1 import and I noticed someone I forgot about. I brought wrex and garrus to the final confrontation.   During the cutscene where sovereign takes over saren’s body, garrus is the one my shepard worriedly looks over at during the transformation , as if she was ready to protect him. While he's struggling to get up she gives Saren this look that says “You stay away from him!”. It has a greater significance now that I know what’s going to happen in ME2 teehee...

Aww, I don't notice that. xD When Saren transformed, I always thought the look on my MainShep's face said, "Oh no, what do I do now?!" That's what she was thinking, anyway.

I know, I can't believe how close it is to ME3's release already. I have my FemShep ready to go for a Garrus romance playthrough. It's not completely perfect, but I'll save the replay for after ME3. I always make mistakes on the first playthrough.

I have one with Kaidan as LI and one with Garrus. I can't choose between the two, I tried, but after re-playing ME1 it was just harder. Fickle!!

Well, if you really can't choose between them, and all of the normal options like "make a list of reasons why you want to play each one first, and see which one comes out ahead" don't work... you could always flip a coin. When the coin is in the air, you might find out which one you're really hoping for.

I'm curious to see if this advice I got from my favorite TV show actually works. xD

I look at it as an opening for a replay. I use the same femshep for both, but break off at one point or another to and to stay loyal and romance Garrus (or that's the plan at least). She'll probably play a little more renegade from then on any way. Damn, all this talk makes me want to play NOW! Stupid work.

@Cherie: Oh, I see. I thought you had two Shepards and were trying to choose which you should play first. In that case, definitely make two playthroughs. I have a Shepard planned for each romance.

@makal: Garrus is one of the most universally-liked squadmates. o_o I don't think the page count really matters...

Hello everyone! I'm a new member to this forum, but not to ME! However, I couldn't play ME until the second game came out on PS3, which made me miss out on all the fun on the first game. However, I was very happy to find out you could romance Garrus. He's a sweety!

It's good to see that there are a lot of fans of Garrus Vakarian. He's considered the No.1 Teammate on ign, which makes me VERY happy indeed! Squee!

I've been lurking around on this forum for quite a while now, and I still am browsing through the pages as I go along. Anyway, it's great to meet you all and I look forward to the day I get to play the final part of the trilogy.

It's probably bigger because they're more excited or something, there's more to look forward to for them. Kaidan is getting more than a cameo since the first game whilst Garrus has a big presence in all the games.

If you go by the kink meme on LiveJournal Garrus is way more popular than Kaidan.

as a Garrus fan who mostly sticks to Kaidan thread nowadays - the comentary of this nature is why.  maybe if you are so worried about number of pages, you should wonder why is it that with all the popularity Garrus has, he doesn't have as many people posting in his thread?  maybe its due to the atmosphere in this thread?  just maybe?

I think that the number of posts about a character relates to the fan's need of defending said character. Or simply defending how much they like him/her.


I always remember how little posting Mordin's thread has, for example. But here's the thing: Mordin is awesome, and everybody agrees that. His popularity is not in danger. I think the force that pushes longer fan threads is lacking there, but not because the character isn't beloved, but quite the opossite really: it's because nobody hates Mordin!


Meanwhile, other characters, mainly the love interests, get lots of love AND hate. So maybe that kinda affects both parts into posting more.

That being said, I was just reminded of how negatively some people react to the idea of seeing turians as attractive, which has made me sad. And so I come into this threat to remind me that I am not wrong, and that I am not alone.

b. Fictional characters do not need White Knights
c. Every character has flaws that some people will hate and some people will love.

I agree nissun, tali's thread has almost 500 pages now, but if bioware was to remove all the troll posts and people bashing tali to rile up her fan base, it would drop the page count i think. I like coming to the garrus thread who happens to be tied for my favorite squaddie with tali (team dextro!) because its not so combative between people here a majority of the time, i might not post but i do like to read what other people say and all the hate in the other threads is very tiring.
