ooooooo. you see what i did there? lol
seriously though, i agree with outmane. i think that both are good/plausable ideas.... just so long as the rest of the body is proportional.

also that plushie!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!! do you take commissions? lol. i wants one!

I haven't yet but I'm seriously considering it. I will be definitely making more turians (to sell) however and I haven't decided who to make yet. Got to get some others out of the way first lol. Also have to figure out Garrus' new visor color first (A.K.A. release moar photos BW!!).

That is a really sweet top. A very unique Shepard as well with the blonde shaved head.

I think a backwards cuddle from Garrus would be so sweet in ME3. I would actually let out a little squee.

I would love moments like this between Garrus and Femshep...
Would be a good way to show that the relationship actually has an impact in ME3

*phew*  I just finally got current with this thread.  I got behind by about 15 pages and I wouldn't let myself post because I want to take everyone's posts before I make a post of my own.

On the topic of "cowls", I like the "cowl"-less version of Garrus better.  The only reason why I feel like there isn't a cowl is because of the armour and casual wear images.  I just don't think the casual wear will fit under that armor.  Also, I get funny birdbath images when I think of Garrus trying to take a shower and all the water accumulates in the cowl that he has to bend over to empty it out.

Same preference here. If you exclude the extra bony bits, it's like taking away their exoskeleton's importance.. that's a big part of what makes turians unique. I've seen different sizes of said collar/bony bits which is probably fine, as I am sure not all turians have the same exact body shape, but to take it away entirely would really retcon the significance of radiation on Palaven and the role it has played in turian evolution.

I dunno, I don't see what the radiation has to do with the cowl being there. I don't see what point it has when it doesn't even go fully up the back of the neck and why it would manifest itself in that shape.

I am just as curious as everyone else I guess :-P

So where is the exoskeleton then? The whole point of having an exoskeleton is to protect the body from radiation.

The exoskeleton could be flush up against the body.  Kind of like an ant's.  Most exoskeletons on Earth creatures do not have air/space in between the exo and the tissue.

Taken from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exoskeleton

"Exoskeletons contain rigid and resistant components that fulfil a set
of functional roles including protection, excretion, sensing, support,
feeding and acting as a barrier against desiccation in terrestrial
organisms. Exoskeletons have a role in defense from pests and predators,
support, and in providing an attachment framework for musculature.[1]
Exoskeletons contain chitin and when calcium carbonate is added, the exoskeleton grows in strength and hardness.[citation needed]
Ingrowths of the arthropod exoskeleton known as apodemes serve as attachment sites for muscles. These structures are composed of chitin, and are approximately 6 times as strong and twice as stiff as vertebrate tendons. Similar to tendons, apodemes can stretch to store elastic energy for jumping, notably in locusts.[2]I have to leave but I'll be back.  Just showing my thought process.:wizard:

EDIT:  And of course this is sci fi, so it very well may not adhere to Terra-based biology.  Hell, they are dextro...sooo...maybe our rules do not apply.

Then again, it may be another sci fi thing where I simply need to suspend my disbelief.  Who knows, but it is fun to theorize and speculate.

Um... Lady Olivia here (duh). Had to make a placeholder account. <_<

Anyway.

I've recently read the talk page on ME Wiki about turian biology. There was a long debate on how the codex entry that mentions the exoskeleton is to be understood. The thing is, the codex says something like "most lifeforms on Palaven developed some sort of metallic exoskeleton" but it never says that turians specifically have an exoskeleton. There's also a note that turians don't have a "natural armor." With the recent dev blurb that the turian "carapace" is actually leathery rather than bony or metallic, it's really an open question.

As far as I recall, the BW concept art (also visible in the video about making Garrus for ME3) clearly shows the... ridge? cowl? whatever it's called. That's proof enough for me. I don't think they would design their armor and clothes the way they do just for fashion - turians are practical people.

Why that shape? Ask the turtles. :P Anybody's guess, really, with "why not" as legitimate answer as any other.

As for radiation. It's the metal that protects from radiation, no matter if it's in the exoskeleton or in the skin. If you want me to bore you with "how" just say the word, I've given it a lot of thought. :)

Garrus is a great squadmate and character.
I'm in love with Tali, but my FemShep has a thing for Garrus.

Not to mention... why would they design all of their clothing to have that? i mean... i know different cultures, different fashions.. but still...
i agree completely with leonia about them retconning the entire turian biology.

The only reason i can see for making cloth and armor with huge collar if it isnt to fit their boney part underneath would be to protect their neck. Its long and curved so it might be a weak point (and theres not much scales over it, for flexibility purpose i assume). So to me its pretty much the same reason why the would have evolved to grow a bone collar (neck protection).

About clothing and alien races, i remember an interview wher they explained that salarians wear the kind of handle they have on their suit because their abdomen is concave and they felt it wasnt giving a good image compared to the other races. I dont see how the turan collar could be for esthetic purpose tho (but then i have just a human sense of fashion).

Edit: wow i posted with my DragonAge account name . This is Outmane. (i jsut realized since ME3 isnt out yet everyone can post without registration issues).

Silly question here, and it doesn't have to be answered if you don't want too... but, I am a tad bit curious about something. All this talk about shirtless turians and the like have me wandering is all... do people find Garrus to be physically attractive?

OMG F*CK YES!   Garrus is the sexiness. Nihlus is doubly so.

I think that turians are an incredibly physically attractive species....  they are thin and lithe and have one hell of an interesting body shape to them.

.....i'm a xenophile and damned proud to admit it. :D

meh.  that, i believe, is why Mordin warns of chaffing. :D

doesn't bother me all that much.. they do have the more carapaced skin, more like scales or somesuch.  which i also find hot.
rather hot.

and that render is amazing. i rather want shirtless turians. many of them.

Edit:  also, if you look at their neck area the skin looks more pliable. i always kinda pictured it a bit more like... maybe lizard skin there.  soft and pliable, but still pebbly and rough. I'm sure there are many parts of them that are like that.

Interesting,  are there particular aspects of said form that you find apealing?  I understand that Quarians because they essentially have enhanced secondary sex features that humans can latch onto...  Turians are literally alien outside of the bipedal build.
