"Human children for dummies?"
"What to expect when expecting: Alien stepfather edition?"
I'm wondering, what would happen to a different-species step-parent if something happened to their alien partner? Would they have any right to their partner's child?

Now I've got an image of Garrus hunched over a parenting book in the middle of the night with Shepard in the other room trying to quiet their kid.

I wonder what the title for a book on raising human children for aliens whose human wife/GF is expecting a baby would be?

I doubt there even is one yet. Human's are barely one generation into the galactic community, around thirty years. Which is also why I am so annoyed at bioware for making humanity as expansive as it is.
Sci fi writers have no sense of scale.

They ended up releasing the child back to [her] father, but the case seemed to have enough grounds to appear in court to debate it out. So at least in the citadel's mind law>species.

I don't know about marriage, but I'm pretty sure if the other species parent legally adopted the child, they would continue to be the guardian regarldess of the species difference. I'm guessing this based on the court case where two humans were fighting for custody of their adopted turian child, whose father had returned after absence.

Wait? Was this in the Cerberus Daily News?

I didn't like that (what should have been) a conversation about shepard's feelings about garrus , had shepard talking about asari

Yes it was, it was a long lasting one too that lasted over a few entries. The turian child was adopted after being orphaned during conflict (I can't remember which one, but it was a heavy one.) The high profile coverage of the child being adopted alerted the father who survived to come for his child.
It was actually a very interesting read.

That custody story was fan made, it was posted as unnoficial news after the CDN stopped. There's been official stories of children adopted by alien parents though, like a pair of turians adopted by asari and a batarian with human parents.

Really? I could have sworn that was one of the official ones, if its not its a rather well mad one.

I generally dislike the asari (I probably would have liked them more if they looked more androgynous, I liked the concept, but the fact that all of them looked female screamed fanservice for me). Yeah, I was annoyed too.
Then again, yes, Shepard sounded sarcastic.

Agreed. I'm assuming sarcasm. (mostly because I feel like Liara rummaging through Shepard's mind in front of the squad in ME1 incredibly invasive in context of what Liara is actually doing.) This is why canon!shep is actually very NOT into Asari.

I wish they were a proper androgynous race of blue people, that would have made them a lot more interesting. As it stands they are the mary sue race that tries to (unsuccessfully) convince people that they're "like so prejudiced against" and not over sexualized

Also, to relate this back to Garrus, I tried to make Shep hug him in his recruitment mission. She stood there with open arms, and... nothing. xD He didn't go for it.

The "You nailed me good a couple times by the way" line also never fails to crack me up.
His and Wrex's reunions were the best in my opinion.

That must be it. Garrus won't leave his post to hug Shepard. Shepard needs to come to him.Arcian wrote...
