They could make a new character just to give Garrus a love interest...but that might be a bit odd and excessive.
It makes more sense in my headcanon. You... probably don't want me to explain my headcanon.
Garrus and Ashley would be pretty hot, I must admit. I'd actually go for that more than the one happening in game, regardless of the interspecies stuff.
I would agree, but with a "softened" Ashley from ME1 (since that's how she loses her insane distrust of aliens).

It's explicit in that there is no doubt what's going on, but I don't think it's shoved in your face repeatedly.

One question is whether Garrus likes Ashley.
Considering
how he calls her "Williams" instead of "Ashley" or "Ash" (he calls the
other characters by their given names), I get the impression that he
views her in a professional or formal way rather than a friend, exactly.
Granted, it's due to engine limitations, but Garrus calls Shepard...er..."Shepard."

Might be gag worthy if you don't like the pairing, but doesn't seem too intrusive.

That would actually be kind of interesting if done well...a more open-minded Ash coming to terms with her distruct of aliens while fighting this growing attraction to Garrus. Not sure how it would work from Garrus' side of things, but with Ash that might be pretty cool.
And I wonder how much dialogue they'll have for the spoiler pairing when the game is released? There was really only one dialogue that explicitly showed the "romance"...the other dialogues between them seemed way more friendship-oriented and something I would see happening between the two anyway.

They were both totally in love with Shep, but couldn't have her/him. So they nurse each other's broken hearts and always admire Shep from afar because Shep is a total superhero.
SHHHH that's my headcanon.

See, in my headcanon, since Wrex, Ash, and Garrus all basically shared the same room, they eventually got to know each other. Garrus learned to respect the krogan from Wrex, and he picked up his sense of humor from Ashley. Ashley eased up on her xenophobia a little and had a few pleasant conversations with the both of them about guns and punching people in the face, but was still cautious, and didn't quite trust Wrex. Wrex, meanwhile, grew to like both "kids" and occasionally dropped advice so that they'd both "grow up right."
None of them were exactly friends, and there were still plenty of trust issues between the lot, but they developed a deep respect for each other, and by the endgame all three went into battle with confidence, knowing the others would have their backs.
Note Wrex always lives in my saves. I hate the scene where Ash shoots Wrex--I know she wouldn't hesistate on behalf of Shepard and the mission, but the way she reacts is just too... cold. It's out of character. Forced.
Kaidan, Tali, and Liara were also bonding with the squad and doing stuff, but I headcanoned about Garrus, Ash, and Wrex the hardest.

Sweet! I wish they would've incorporated that into the game :3 Garrus, Wrex, and Ash seem like they'd all really get along if they had the same backgrounds or were the same species, for some reason...like they'd be the Badass Trio while Kaidan, Tali, and Liara are the Goody-Two-Shoes Trio.

I like your headcannon musings. I mean, Garrus was down there calibrating the Mako all the damned time, and he, Wrex, and Ash were all bunkering down together...I could see (assuming Ash gets over her distrust) them getting along pretty damned well by the end of it. They seem to have a lot in common in spite of the differences in...er...species...so I can see there being some groundwork laid there, and I don't recall Ash and Garrus, at least, having any major disagreements/snide or hateful exchanges, so...yeah. I could go with that if there were further development toward it in ME3.

Haha, everyone's Shep would do something different
BUT STILL...I don't like this couple and will continue to be opposed to it while still respecting that others love it. Yes, I respectfully disagree but will support our differences in likes and romantic chemistry!

I also find it hilarious that your example of how Shepard might die is being run over by a bus. OF ALL THE THINGS IN THE GALAXY. It was a bus. XD That's awesome.

As for my Shepards, their reactions to the couple would be:
A. Squealing over how cute they are together.
B. Mercilessly teasing them.
C. Wondering how the hell it happened.
D. Insisting they play it safe and don't let it get in the way of the war effort.
E. A combination of the above, in varying intensities.

Yeah, I'm not gonna get too outraged about it. Fenris doesn't hook up with Isy in my PTs of DA2, either, and a prerequisite for them hooking up is neither one can be in a relationship with Hawke. That's fine with me. *shrug* And honestly, if it's who I'm starting to think - well, I'm OK with that one, actually. It's not like the parts of the galaxy we see are teeming with turian ladies.
I'll see if my guess is correct - if I am, I'll find out when Hubby does his playthrough which won't be delayed by classes like mine will be.
However, this may be the end of my time here - I'm thinking I might join Rob in forum blackout. If I do, I'll see you guys on the other side of March 6th.

It would be terribly unfortunate! Those space buses.
But, I just don't see any reason to feel threatened by it**. Both people in that couple still hold Shepard as one of the most important people in their lives. If Shepard is with Garrus, I don't see there ever being jealousy, because Shepard is still friends with X and Garrus is still friends with them. And visa versa, if Garrus was the odd one out. Friendship, not sexual attatchment, defines all three of their relationships.
Its sort of how you can respect Shepard/Liara, or Shepard/Kaidan [ectectect]. Garrus/Shepard might be the perfect fit for your Shepard, but it isn't going to be that way for everyone. Lets say in ME2 Shepard decides to romance Thane. Presumably Shepard spends time with Thane, and in that time with Thane, Garrus spends hanging out with X. That time never exists if Shepard was romancing Garrus.
**Although I do get people who think they might be mismatched, and then it is just a matter of taste. Personally it doesn't bother me, and sort of makes sense to me based on X's romance with Shepard.
