A Tali, Garrus, Shepard threesome would be interesting...

Not too unusual. On Illium there was that Turian trying to hit on the Quarian. Maybe it happens more often than we think?

It probably does for like, reasons of dextro DNA and stuff. But the attraction there was obvious. It isn't so much a question of interspecies as it is with how the relationship occurs, which in Garrus and Tali's case is randomly.

That would be interesting. Team Dextro to the next level...my Shepard would be down with that. B)

This.

Regardless of whatever issues I have with their "romance" itself, in the end what bothers me most is that it really feels like a big troll attempt. Because there's no way the writers wouldn't have been able to predict the fan reaction, knowing how sensitive people are to LI stuff and knowing how huge the fanbases are for those characters. This isn't like Miranda/Jacob, which at least has some basis in history of happening (and I'm not saying anything will happen between those two, it was just an example). This feels forced and added in purely to bait fans. And on BioWare's part, that just seems really childish. I don't want to offend the writers, because I do appreciate all that they have done for the series, but it's my honest opinion.

Yes, it might make some people happy. But it will most likely make even more people upset, and I don't think it's worth it.

I really hope you´re right. It would certainly mess up my game. Just like the whole "Isabella flirts the crap out of your LI if you don´t romance them" in DA2 did. As much as I adored her I just couldn´t stand the banter that went on afterwards.
If I´ll be forced to avoid certain squad combos in order to enjoy ME3 I´ll be very sad.

It's like this: You just know it's waiting in the files, somewhere...watching...always hovering over your head...looming in the annals of "canon" ready to be triggered at a moment's notice.  And so you're compelled to take action to prevent even the vain possibility of such a horrible brain-ick event from ever even brushing reality.

/melodramatic

But seriously, yeah.  Nuke it from orbit.  It's the only way to be sure.  I *will* be looking out for the final files, and I'll be pouring over the player's guide once I get my grubby hands on it, so I'll be able to see what way I need to go from there.

I wasn't too miffed about Isabela flirting with everyone, because that's quite in-character for her. Even Fenris and Isabela's relationship wouldn't have bothered me if it were more like an actual relationship with all of the drama and angst that accompanies anything having to do with Fenris. But since it was just a fling, and since Fenris didn't leave Isabela for 3 years, it made some players question why he would be so ~traumatized~ by his time with Hawke and not with Isabela. Kind of like how Garrus/X makes either of their relationships with Shepard seem less special. It's like the writers don't care about consistency and just include things for the lols.

Granted, Fenris/Isabela doesn't bother me nearly as much as Garrus/X does, because I've always viewed Garrus/X as having a good platonic friendship and I really liked them that way, whereas Fenris and Isabela never really came across as "bros4lyfe" to me, nor did they remind me of siblings who tease each other.

Now Garrus and X's awesome friendship is going to be ruined if I use any Shepard who didn't romance either of them, and that's a lot of Shepards.

In a way I wish I hadn't found this out because now this pairing is going to be in the background of my thoughts when I play my femshep/garrus import. Why couldn't they keep it platonic , I can think of better pairings that would have caused less nerd rage.

sorry if Im not overreacting... maybe im not a real Garrus fan :P

As much as shipping goes I would not have put Garrus and X together. But it certainly doesnt bother me that it happens in someone else's game or in the games where my Shepards are uninterested by those 2.

Actually I'll go so far as to say it might e funny to watch. Like when youre little sister tries to hook up with your best friend. You can tell them its a bad idea but in the end you might as well just go get some popcorn.

I’m by no means a fan of the pairing this thread's been talking about, but I don’t think the chance of it happening makes Garrus’ relationship with Shepard any less special. If you romance him in ME2, Shep is still the first non-turian who he’s ever considered having a relationship with. Just because there’s a possibility in some alternative universe that he may eventually hook up with another non-turian friend of his doesn’t change that in any way. It just shows that if he grows to know and like someone enough, he’s capable of seeing past what species they are.

Besides, the whole thing between X and Garrus just seems to me like two friends reaching out to each other for a bit of comfort during troubled times. I don’t see their relationship as being anywhere near as special and developed as what he can have with Shepard (though that is obviously just my own interpretation of things having read the leaked script).

However, I have to say I don’t like the pairing from a writing perspective. To me, it doesn’t make a jot of sense. Like a lot of other people here, I saw them more as siblings. The thought of them together totally freaks me out! And, frankly, I don’t believe it would last past the end of the game.

Luckily, I won’t see any of it first-hand because I can’t seem to get through ME3 without romancing Garrus, but I certainly won’t be watching it on YouTube. It would just irritate me!

Because it (Garrus/X) DOES happen in your individual 'verse. :P I don't get jealous of you guys romancing Garrus. Why? Because this happens in the bubble that is our own personal 'verses and it never crosses over into mine. I'm not giving up anything or "sharing" in the sense that these are separate instances. But when you bring character to character romances into the picture, well...now it's no longer in a separate bubble. It's in your bubble. And now you need to play a certain way to make sure it never intervenes in your bubble. Unless you actually like that certain thing, at which point you don't care. For me, I don't like or care for it at all. So much so that I have considered radical measures to ensure it never even thinks of seeing the light of day in my little bubble in any playthrough, be it romancing a certain someone or not.

Edit: And I should further clarify in saying that I'm not against character-character romances per se.  I just happen to feel strongly against this particular pairing for a number of reasons, some logical and some less so. It's just the way I tick. :P

And this. :D I don't know if I can actually succeed with a playthrough not involving a Garrus romance.  At this point...I'm not sure if it's even possible.

Im still not sure I do understand.  I mean if your Shep romances Garrus then that pairing doesnt happen. If you romance lets say Thane... then it would be pretty damn selfish to expect Garrus to keep it in his pants cause your canon shepard might not like it. Still I hope as a fellow Garrus fan, it wont ruin your game.  I know we cant always use logic to prevent those kind of emotional reaction even if trying

I really like what Robyn said and the way I see it them hooking up is nothing compared to Shep/Garrus and more like your little sister hooking up with your best friend because they tag along with you so often.

Yes, exactly. Just because it doesn't happen in my main playthrough doesn't mean it won't happen in all of my others, and I won't hate it any less.

And for the record? No, this is nothing like the S/S romance debate for a number of reasons that I won't get into because I don't want to open that can of worms. Let's just say that being opposed to Garrus/X does not carry any of the unfortunate implications that being opposed to S/S does.

nitefyre410 wrote...

No, actually, there are tons of ways in which they could make better crew interactions that don't involve romance. The fact that the writers apparently felt that the only way they could develop and explore Garrus and X's relationship was by putting them together romantically is pretty sad, considering how much potential they have as friends. It's rare to see strong male and female friendships in the media, and this WOULD have been a refreshing change of pace. This feels like "pair the spairs", something I've never been a fan of.

It's not like we expect Garrus and X to stay single forever if Shepard doesn't romance them. That's not what this is about. Someday, most likely when they're NOT in the middle of a war, I can totally see them getting together with someone, someone of their own species most likely. But not with each other.

Also, considering how randomly the romance happens, I really wouldn't put it in the group of "better crew interactions."

you and others can see it that way if you/they want, in my perspective i see it as individuals who have personal issues/problems and as a result are vulnerable to being involved romantically in order to appease both of their fears, even if it is for a short while.

"Garrus and Tali are obviously meant for each other...I mean, it's the default! If only it wasn't for that [female dog] Shepard getting between them and ruining everything, the selfish [woman of ill-repute], Garrus and Tali would be together!"

you and others can see it that way if you/they want, in my perspective i see it as individuals who have personal issues/problems and as a result are vulnerable to being involved romantically in order to appease both of their fears, even if it is for a short while.

You are mistaken if you truly think that's how I would view it.  It's because I don't view it in this way at all that I reject the very idea of their romance to begin with.  But knowing the BSN, there is little doubt that this will be the conclusion drawn from the implications.  It is inevitable.  Granted, perhaps without as much colorful language, but the sentiment will be expressed regardless.

Edit: TOP? How about two for the price of one? :D
