But i cant see her breakup with Garrus. I think its pretty clear hes emotionnaly involved and gave Shep many chances to change course. Dumping him after that would be very careless of Shepard ('oh i was just curious' or 'we can still be friend' even tho he asked her two times to go to elsewhere if she jsut wanted to blow steam off).Youd need a quite evil or very misguided Shepard to that.
Actually id like to hear how someone who plans to go back to their ME1 LI or go to a new LI in ME3 after getting involved with Garrus manages to justify it. Im curious.

For me, it's not really the moral implications...lovgreno wrote...
Dumping Garrus would be like kicking a puppy. There is no way this will ever happen for me. Yes, I am a wuss like that.
I see Garrus' romance as winning the lottery, and breaking up with him as rejecting the prize money. The latter is one of those things you just don't do no matter the circumstances.

Your explanation is gold
As for Alistair, i never breaked up with him either. My canon Warden was with Zev tho. Alistair makes me think too much of my RL little brother. Hes adorable but i jsut cant go there (well i romanced him once with my Queen Cousland). I always had him around everywher i went tho.
If Garrus was a medieval character hed be what ? A rogue archer a la robin hood ?

Personality-wise, they're somewhat similiar - Alistair has the same penchant for cracking jokes at every given opportunity, and they both have absolutely eargasmic voices. They are also incredibly loyal, probably the most loyal squadmates in each respective party. Beyond that, they're not terribly similiar.
Of course, it was a LONG time since last I played Dragon Age.

IMO, The major, deal-breaking difference between Alistair and Garrus, for me, is trust. Garrus trusts Shepard a lot more than Alistair trusts the Warden. Garrus has his own opinions, and he will voice them, but he knows Shepard and always respects her judgment. Alistair will tell you to lead because he's too afraid to take charge himself (unless you harden him, and then it's only at the very end and happens very abruptly), but then when he doesn't agree with some of your choices, he'll throw a hissy fit.
The main reason that discerns Alistair and Garrus is that every time Alistair reacts strongly to something the Warden does, it's like "Okay, so if you didn't want me to do this, why didn't you frickin' lead yourself?". Or, in the case of Connor, "why did you tell me to do it?" Garrus takes responsibility (sometimes little too much, like with Sidonis), Alistair doesn't. He even doesn't take responsibility for the fact that he's giving you responsibility.
The only similarities I see between them -as all of you already said- are the snark and the awkwardness in the romantic department, and even that latter part is debatable, since they're not awkward for the same reasons. Other than that, there are more differences than similarities. Alistair is very warm and emotional. Garrus, only rarely, which makes it all the more endearing and moving. Alistair is goofy, often in a childish way, loves to gossip and to kid around. Not Garrus. ME1 Garrus was impulsive, fiery, didn't show his humour and had a stick up his butt. ME2 Garrus still had the fiery and impulsive aspect, even if turned more into smouldering anger, but he definitely gave the feeling of having grown up, and his humour gave off a different vibe than Alistair's: more world-weary, in a sense.
Alistair IMO, at least at the beginning of his romance, feels like he desperately needs to be in love and someone to belong with (childhood abandonment issues and the fact that he's a virgin). I got the feeling it's not so much my Warden that he loved, but the idea of being in love. Kind of like: "She's there, she's pretty, she's a Grey Warden, and I'd reaaaally like to get my freak on; that should be enough". With Garrus, it really is all about Shepard: she's the one person he can absolutely trust, and she's his best friend. He's not out for romance at the start, but when she brings up the idea, he's even willing to go beyond race barriers, simply because it's her. It wouldn't have worked with just anyone else. Which is the feeling I got from Alistair. Also Garrus isn't a virgin, so he's definitely not blinded by the "YAY, SEX!" aspect of the relationship (that's one of Alistair's huge minuses for me, petty as it may seem).
Alistair has no problems telling you he loves you, in large part because he actually wants to hear it in return, he makes that pretty clear. Garrus never does say it, but he never needs to. When he becomes vulnerable, words just don't cut it, but it's probably even more moving that way.
------------------------------------
Well that was quite long. Anyway, I like Alistair more with my male Warden than my female.
And when it's comes down to how the bromance works with Garrus and Alistair, well that is another story:P
