I'm really bad at this "make a perfect ME2 playthrough before ME3" business. So many little things I've forgotten, just like how the break up choice replaces the paragon choice when pursuing Garrus. Or how even if you say you're going to go and get your crew back immediately, they still die if you don't e-e
I swear that last bit, that if I just said I would, Kelly wouldn't die. But nooo she died and now I gotta replay the whole bloody thing because I saved frequently just so I wouldn't say the wrong thing and get a Jacob ninjamance :I
I just want a perfect Garrus playthrough and I can't even do that.
It's too difficult being me clearly.
I don't ever get trouble with saving the crew or Jacob ninjamance. Am surprised many people are having trouble with them.
I just always say I will head straight to save the crew (don't think this matters, though I always do it), then I make a stop at Illium to spend every skill point for every squadmate (realistically, to be fully prepared for the SM, even if game-wise it doesn't matter), order a mystery drink, listen to the bachlor party for the 1000th time and head to Omega 4 relay. Then the romance scene ends and we get to see the payoff of Gar's calibrations. And yeah, they never die.
As for Jacob, as far as I remember in a conversation before he even gives his LM, there is a certain point where you can chose "I'm trying to flirt with you Jacob" and an other one. Choose the other one and I don't think poor Jacob will have an other romance trigger (though I could be wrong, though I never had trouble with him because the romance trigger dialogue is SO obvious).
