I think it's kinda unreasonable to expect non-romanced companions to sit around, consumed with unrequited lust for Shepard. Garrus/Tali doesn't strike me as a grand love affair, but something that happens when two people are lonely and under pressure and around each other enough (never mind the fact that they're aliens surrounded by a crew of mostly humans). It makes sense to me, and I find it more palatable than them being alone, knowing it's likely because Shepard's mission and interference has taken them away from their lives.

But, if you can't stand the idea, you also don't have to recruit Tali in ME3 (I've heard conflicting things about Garrus). Problem solved!

I get what you're saying, but I'm just not a fan of this pairing; never was, never will be, even though I've been trying to like it :(

I would've preferred Tali hook up with Kaidan or Kal'Reegar.  And Garrus?  Well, I'd like him with Liara or a female Turian.  Heck, even Ashley!  I love the idea of non-Shepard romances but I don't like these two together.  I don't expect everyone to faun after Shepard because I hate that and it's not fair that she or he are the only ones to get some 'action' in game.  It's just the fact that I personally do not like Garrus/Tali.  It will never happen in my playthrough but it's still there and I just don't care for it.  I've been trying to like it, but every time it's brought up I just feel disguted :?  Am I allowed to feel this way?

You're allowed to feel whatever way you want to feel.

I do have to ask though out of genuine curiosity: why do you think Ashley and Garrus could be an acceptable pairing?

This was discussed earlier in the thread and it was lots of fun <3  I don't think they'd be long lasting AT ALL (definitely not a couple that would be lovey dovey or even a good couple) but I like it for the drama factor and how with Ashley's dislike of aliens it would be interesting to see her move past that with Garrus.  Also, Garrus is such a smooth smartass and I think he could easily get her riled up.  I also love their dynamic, how Ashley is a tough, no nonsense woman and Garrus is a man of action.  I see them getting along seamlessly on the battlefield and maybe that would be where an unwanted attraction would start.  This pairing will never, ever happen but I like it just the same.  Just personal preferences, I guess.

To each his own I guess. In my mind Ashley doesn't even like Garrus. And no way can I picture her getting involved with an alien. She's pretty set up in her beliefs.
But again, opinions, opinions ;)

I think the reason Tali and Garrus' dialogue is more flirty is because Mac didn't write his dialogue this time around. He said there were times he would say when playing: "That would never happen"

Because they're loyal to Shepard's mission, they're the only ones, besides Joker, who can be around in all three games and they don't have to conform to Alliance regs the way, say, Vega does (which is probably why he doesn't hook up with anyone in ME3). Factor in the whole alien thing (and even if they're different aliens from different cultures, they're still outsiders on the Normandy and probably feel a shared sense of disconnect because of that), and it makes sense to me that they'd pair off.

Yeah... but after the big stinker he made about not ever considering interspecies ‘relationships’ this feels like a stab in the back. So much for trust, uh!? Good old trusty, reliable Garrus...
It’s all good though, this just piles up on top of the other downers. No biggie, really.

That's what really got me.  Even though I like the Liara and Ashley pairings with him I don't think they could ever happen at all because of all the stress Garrus placed on "Shepard, I want to be with you because of you, even though I'm not into humans"...I mean, he sounded like he didn't even know how they would have sex.  It's like, Garrus, you have a piece...

Also, I've heard that Tali isn't recruitable until very late in the game whereas Garrus is one of the first ones you get.  I don't know how a romance can develop if she's there for so short a time, but I guess it goes with what others were saying about it being close to end and finding some comfort before all hell breaks loose...

Exactly! :D

I'm really trying to accept the Garrus/Tali pairing but now that it's possible in game it makes it harder.  Before I could kind of just ignore it.  I was to the point of saying "this is good, fans will enjoy it in their nonromance playthroughs" but then I hear about it again and I unfortunately start going back to disliking it, especially since it can potentially happen in 87% of player playthroughs   I know it shouldn't affect me, but it still does so blah I need to sort out these emotions!

What, no Garrus/Ashley combo!?

I actually wouldn’t mind that one as much; the anti-alien getting it on with a turian?! At least I can see some ‘hotness’ developing there for a change...*roll eyes again*

Well just like Shepard Tali is a close friend of his. They've been through hell together. I bet if there is one woman other than Shepard who could make him consider interspecies relationships, it would be her. Or maybe Liara, although I see less chemistry between those two.

Best solution is not to recruit Tali if it bothers you that much. Leave her with the Quarians. She'll help you out another way ^_^

I honestly wouldn't have never shipped Tali with Garrus. I always saw them as friends, perhaps even brother and sister type of relationship but that's it.:mellow:Not so fond of this pretty sudden change of their "relationship" but depending on how it's done, I suppose can live it. Otherwise I just have to play the game without recruiting Tali or romance Garrus all the time.:D

As long as the lead up to it is with some style and class, all will be fine. Hey you never know, maybe Garrus just got ninjamanced?

Yeah, Garrus and Tali are written by Mr. Weekes and I can kind of see that he would ship those two...I don't know, it just seems plausible that he would.

I agree, now I just can't decide if I'm going to recruit Tali in my non-Garrus romance play-through... Hmmm... I suppose I'll just have to youtube their romance scenes before deciding.

We are totally on the same page! <3

You know, Garrus sounds flirty in that whole stretch of ME3 banter that was just posted, but then again he sounded flirty even to Manshep in ME2 when he said lines like "If I wanted to do more than take your shields down..."  Brandon Keener has a very flirty tone to his voice, I suppose <3

I listened to the banter and swooned the entire time. 9 minutes of grinning stupidly and giggling like an idiot. Good thing my significant other couldn't see me.

See, I'm not one to ship out of hand, but he sounded totally flirty when he was talking to Vega, so I think that it's just how he rolls now.

Tali is my Shepard's bff!  No way that would happen!    Besides, there's some dialogue that indicates Tali supports Shepard and Garrus, at least over him and Dr. Michel so I don't think a cat fight will happen.  Plus, the Garrus/Tali stuff seems to happen much later in the game.
