Take Garrus with you in the Quarian missions, along with Tali, even if you don't have to take Tali.  She'll comment about the relationship, too.  Something about Dr. Chakwas giving him dextro-chocolate.  Tali tells Shepard to watch herself.  (Wouldn't want the doctor stealing Garrus away with chocolate and Serrice ice brandy, now would we?)

I really think that Kaidan should say something.  Or Joker, since apparently that's where Garrus got his "research" materials (makes me wonder if he doesn't realize that it's pornography, since he seems to take what he sees in the porn vids seriously--perhaps turian vids can be fairly explicit and no one thinks anything of it?).  EDI sort-of references it, but only in the sense that you have a relationship--or, as she puts it, "actual sexual experience."  If you've got the collector's edition, Javik will comment that he knows you and "the turian" are "joined."

And I love that romanced Garrus so often adds in some romantic dialogue no matter what he's saying to Shepard.  He makes it very clear that it's not just about sex, that's just the only way he knows how to frame their relationship because he's terrified of getting things wrong.  But it's sweet how often he shows support or concern for her.

I admit I'm disappointed that if you break it off with him (I reloaded and tested this) he doesn't seem disappointed at all.  Even if you break up with him on the date.  This seems strange considering both your chances to break up with him, he seems to really want to keep going with the relationship (in fact on the date he's asking you to make it exclusive and long-term).  If you break up with him the first time you talk on the Normandy, he just says he has no regrets and that he understands he was a distraction.  Shepard reassures him that he wasn't, but that's the most disappointment you get from him.  He'll even ask her out for drinks later.  If you break up with him on his date, you don't get an offer for drinks or to reassure him that he wasn't ever a distraction.  But he doesn't seem upset in the least.  The man has a will of steel not to be upset after someone he so obviously cares deeply about rejects him out of hand despite not being in a relationship with anyone else at the time.

Oh yeah, and for all the old fans who used to post here who vaguely remember me, I'm back now that I've played ME3.  Although, I'm not happy about the ending.  But few are.

I'm okay with Garrus living even if Shepard dies.  Actually it's selfish not to hope he can move on eventually without her.  But if he's still alive, I'd like some dialogue, some apparent grief over his loss.

I don't know.  The ending just ruined the whole series for me.  That tends to happen when you've put hundreds of hours into something and are told your choices matter, only to find that they don't.  I may replay it, if only because I enjoyed time spent with all the squaddies past.

I don't think of it that way when Shep breaks it off with him. IMO it's either they stay together  or they realize like adults how it's not going to work. If she does break it off with him, I imagine up until that point they had feelings that the most potential out of their relationship wouldn't be as lovers.

However, I obviously think they work better as lovers

This is total conjecture, but I think Garrus is like the opposite of every dude who gets pissed when they get "friend-zoned." He recognizes the value of his friendship with Shep and he won't let any disappointment over not being together together diminish it.

haha well if your Shep wants to break up with Garrus that would just leave more for mine ;)
Just kidding

I was thinking I can understand why they didnt make some break up dialogue after the first convo. Theres just so much resources and time availible to cover all bases. With the state of other ME2 romances, there wasnt that much resource left I guess.

Oh and I jsut replayed the first convo after you recruit him. VA is perfect of course. But Garrus also says 'If we have to die together taking out a Reaper, remember I got the killshot'. So I think That will be my canon. Garrus trying to get Harbinger attention so that Shep could get to to the citadel beam. Then he ordered the drinks at heaven's bar and waited for Shep to get done with the mystical reaper crap.

Thats pretty much the only way for those two would actually take some rest.  Ah yes 'retirement' ... we have dismissed that claim. :bandit:

Thats pretty true and kinda cute.

It does make sense since their relationship started as a friendship. It's clear he values Shep deeply outside of 'being with her'.

I do have to say his is probably my favorite romance. He's such a badass and a total softy and we're lucky to have him. Felt kinda bad for the few people who romanced Jacob though. Thane was expected.

Hell yeah. He's now officially my favorite Bioware romance of all times.
After Alistair, I didn't think it was possible.

@Karrie788: Me too! Beat both Alistair and Anders, and I adore both. I think it's because out of all of them Garrus was the most equal to your character. He truly is the other half to Shepard (mine at least).

Yeah with my FemShep Garrusmance being an Infiltrator I see it as 'Infiltration Team', bit sad that Kasumi couldn't return in ME3 because she made it a trio of infiltrators and she was like a lil'sis for Shepard.

Also don't forget... "We're a team Garrus, there's no Shepard without Vakarian" :wizard:

I think that is why I love the Citadel date even more and my reasoning why my FemShep Garrusmance definitly makes the shot is due to his poking fun at Shepard's dancing skills.. that's why I love the emotion in Hale's voice in her response "Alright Vakarian, your going down!" part of me wishes it had a similar hug at the end like the miss one does, but I love Hale's laugh after the "Yeah well next time, we'll throw in a herd of rampaging Klixen, that's how you seperate the rookies from the pros!" line Garrus throws.

Just a quick question. I've just completed Sur'kesh...and apart from Jack, no one seems to acknowledge Shep/Garrus's relationship. Is it too early for other squaddies to comment on it? Does it have to be "locked" before they comment?

Wasn't that Dr Michel? I would be a little freaked if Chakwas made a move on Garrus :o So no other acknowledgements? No teasing from Joker, or comments from Liara? Tis sad then  But just having him in that alternative armour is enough for me. Phew, the Eden Prime mission never looks so hot

@Sir Ulrich: My Shepard is an infiltrator too! I love biotics but I love the Widow sniper rifle even more. So my Shep missed on purpose, his male pride is just too cute to pass up.

I honestly can't get over how ridiculously adorable that Hollywood kiss is. I've replayed it something like twenty times now, and it STILL doesn't get old.

Romance scenes in ME2 look so dull in comparison now.

If you bring Garrus with you to Grissom Jack says "Bite me Garrus. Better yet, bite her. Probably how she likes it."

Yes, Garrus is the best Bioware romance ever (and I picked Zevran in DA:O....getting that friggin' earring from him felt like a real accomplishment, and and it took me like 20 minutes to actually push the button to back stab Anders in DA:2).

*sigh*

And I laughed so hard at the Jack comment.

Question, there's a hug scene at the date after the shooting contest? Garrus just said to me something about 'It's okay your not good at this, *smirk* there's other things I know you're good at"

My husband was watching at that point and facepalmed himself. It was very funny.

If I remember correctly, if you brought him along when you attack the Cerberus base, he will say that he thought hospitals were bad enough, or something to that extent.

This. I keep thinking that Bioware can't possibly top the last romance that stole my heart, and then they do it, almost every time.

Yeeeeeah, that's pretty much how I headcanoned it, as well . . .

And I'm constantly imagining my squaddies face-palming everytime my Shep's solution to a firefight is to rush in and hit things with her fists. I suppose this is one of the first times it's really worked in Garrus' favor. ^_^

Maybe I'm just a pessimist but I was disappointed with some aspects of Garrus' romance. Spoilers:

Namely, the final romantic interlude before the Earth battle where he is just sitting off to the side of the bed leaving Shep to lay there alone. He does not cuddle with you and he does not say he necessarily loves you, just that he 'cares' for you.

Add that to the fact that he is still flirty with Tali and that if you allowed Tali to kill herself during the geth mission Garrus is so upset that he admits he imagined Tali had the face of an angel and that he missed her too much to bother speaking with you.

Perhaps it's a difference in cultural attitude but I felt that Shepard and Garrus' cross-species liason was just a little lackluster at times (barring the adorkable kiss scene at the citadel date). Not trying to turn this into a debate or anything to conflict with people this was just my opinion and maybe it's just me wanting too much out of BW!

SPOILERS

Can't say anything about Tali's death, she's alive in my playthrough. I didn't see him flirting with her in any way though...
I can see why he would be pissed about Tali's death, I mean, she basically was his best friend, with Shepard.

Personally I loved the romance encounter. He's not a guy who talks very openly about his feelings, and if there's work to do he'll do it instead of spooning Shep while she sleeps... but he will show his affection through little things. Holding her hand. Looking at her and asking her how she's feeling. Those little gestures show very efficiently that he's completely in love with her. It's sweet. Well, for me anyway. I like it better that way. It's fitting.
I do admit I got lucky on one point. In French he says "It's a good time to remind the people you love that... well, you love them."

No, it was definitely Chakwas who gave him the chocolate.  I wanted to see a scene between him and Dr. Michel on the Citadel, but for some reason the devs decided you can't take your squad wandering around the Citadel (or anywhere else) with you anymore.

Spoilers:

As for him being flirty with Tali even if you romance him, I didn't really notice that.  He seems friendly with her, and he may in fact find her attractive, but given that Shepard's relationship with him is based on trust, I don't think you've got anything to worry about.

As for him saying he cares about Shepard instead of that he loves her, I don't think he really needs to say the L word to get it across.  He's told her he needs her, he has been there for her to comfort her when she was upset, he's made it very clear that they're in all this together.  He'll even talk about having kids together in the end.  I don't think he'd say that if he didn't really love Shepard.  Actually I'm pretty sure "Are you ready to become a one-turian kind of woman?" was his way of saying, "I love you.  Let's make this official."

But I do wish he had said it, and I think that, given the horrible endings, he'd regret that he never did.  I think that he'd know Shepard knew, but it's still a huge regret to have, never having told the one you love how much you really loved them.  Unless you consider "I want to have babies with you, and I want to spend eternity in Heaven with you" an "I love you," in not so many words.  But to me, while I admit the treatment Jacob fans got wasn't the best, the fact that Garrus doesn't outright say it means more than if he did.  His actions speak louder than his words.  Jacob says he loves Shepard in ME2, but to me it feels more like he was using the words to get in Shepard's pants.  And given the context of Garrus's relationship with Shepard, and how hard it is for him to get it across to her that this is about more than just sex, I get the feeling an "I love you" from him might have come across the same way as it did from Jacob.

That's just my take on it.  I still think he'll regret it for the rest of his life.

Aww, he says love in the French version? Ok, I take your point. I still  adore the romance I'm just a little miffed about how some of it was done. Can't say I made out worse than Jacob's romancers though, that crap irked me to no end.

He does, and my heart jumped when he did.

I'm speculating here, but I don't think the L word means as much to turians as it does to humans. Or maybe just Garrus, I don't know enough about turians to be certain. His reaction to Shep's "I love you" was funny but you could tell he wasn't really used to that kind of situation. He sounded more like he was trying to hide his emotions and uncertainty behind humor.
Besides, as much as I love the line "are you ready to be one-turian kind of woman?" (for some reason I found that incredibly hot), it'd probably be weird to hear that from a human.

EDIT: as for Jacob's romance, no arguments there. I understand that Bioware tossed it aside for marketing reasons, but they didn't have to be so extreme about it.
