No, it was definitely Chakwas who gave him the chocolate.

Actually you're wrong and it is Dr. Michel.

Not in my game.  Might be different in your translation, if you aren't playing the English version.  Because I remember my reaction being something like:  Wait, Chakwas?  What?  I didn't even know she was into him...

If it had been Dr. Michel, it would've actually made sense.  Because we all know she has the hots for Garrus.

Of course I also didn't use subtitles, so it's possible it was supposed to be Dr. Michel and the dialogue said Chakwas.

Or it could be that there was other noise going on at the time and I misheard; I'll admit that's a possibility as I had several distractions that kept me from hearing things like Shepard's epic final motivational speech (and that annoyed me greatly).

And this is a playthrough where Chakwas is on the Normandy.

I do admit I got lucky on one point. In French he says "It's a good time to remind the people you love that... well, you love them."

Aww, he says love in the French version? Ok, I take your point. I still  adore the romance I'm just a little miffed about how some of it was done. Can't say I made out worse than Jacob's romancers though, that crap irked me to no end.

Compared to what I saw of other romances, I find Garrus very satisfying. Their night together on the Normandy isnt shown to be 'explosive' but after seeing how terrible the kiss animation turns out to be (I still love those kisses but lets face it, they are ugly), Im happy to report that my imagination can take over as things fade to black. The story makes it abundantly clear he cares for Shep and not only during the last third of the game. Theres all those little extra dialogue bits on the Normandy that are playful and concerned. There no 'finally realizing you were right' cause he always knew Shep was.

Im not sure what parts were lacking to you but I found they remained true to the 'friend-to-lover' romance arc. Garrus respects Shep first and then fall in love because of that, instead of what I would see as the other way around for the Kaidan (he loves Shep and because of it he finally comes to respect what she had to do)

He does, and my heart jumped when he did.

I'm speculating here, but I don't think the L word means as much to turians as it does to humans. Or maybe just Garrus, I don't know enough about turians to be certain. His reaction to Shep's "I love you" was funny but you could tell he wasn't really used to that kind of situation. He sounded more like he was trying to hide his emotions and uncertainty behind humor.
Besides, as much as I love the line "are you ready to be one-turian kind of woman?" (for some reason I found that incredibly hot), it'd probably be weird to hear that from a human.

EDIT: as for Jacob's romance, no arguments there. I understand that Bioware tossed it aside for marketing reasons, but they didn't have to be so extreme about it.

I understand what you're saying, he does seem to consciously shy away from using the word 'love' when I think about it; maybe it's just not customary so he finds it awkward or maybe even cliché. Thanks, that makes me feel quite a bit better.

Oh I was just bummed about how saucy the Liara romance turned out to be I suppose by comparison, haha.

Come on. It's Liara. Of course she's gonna get the best romance scenes. <_<

Then again I wasn't exactly looking forward to seeing Garrus naked.

"The best" is subjective in this though ;) Whiel they might be hot, my best is Shepard simply laying a hand on Garrus' mandible and saying the "I don't know what I'd do without you." line.

As was mentioned before Garrus is your friend first and then falls in love with you while the opposite is true with Kaidan. Not trying to bash but I never understood how others liked that in his romance. How can you be with someone you don't trust and you can't rely on? Garrus proves that he cares about Shepard as is willing to follow her even to hell itself without her explaining anything.

Yeah I have not seen the Femshep/Liara pairing so I don't know if it's the same but that male Shepard and Liara scene was spicy, I mean, they really got it on.

My comment was quite tongue in cheek, but yeah, I agree with you. ^_^ And oh, that line... the adoring look he gives her, the way they hold hands until she moves away... if that doesn't scream "I love you" I don't know what does.

The whole "I don't trust you" vibe of the VS relationship is killing my romanced Ashley playthrough... darn I remained faithful for two years just so she can keep spitting in my face like nothing I did mattered. Come on Ash.

Hm, change of topic here, but...anyone else notice that ME3 is the first time Garrus shows any religious inclination at all? I know that some people in fanon (fanfics, RPs, etc) have him saying "Spirits!" and "By the spirits!" all the time, but the reality is that in both previous games, he never once invokes the spirits or mentions them.

Either he's become more religious in ME3 due to what he's been through and having a need to believe in some higher power to pull through, or he was always religious and kept it close to his heart, rather than being fanatical about it. Either way, something about it made Garrus seem more "real" in ME3, and I think the way that he treats his religion suggests that he wouldn't use "Spirits!" as a swear word. Because he seems to take his beliefs too seriously for that.

Oh I see!
Maybe Liara has he best ingame romance scene but I would bet Garrus has the best fanfics :P
But seriously, I blame the animation, there's no way they could have made something very good.

Im not sure how to explain but somehow the final normandy scene was less 'fun' then the date but it kinda made sense in my head cause there's no culmination there as for the VS romance. Garrus is by Shep's side the whole game, theres all those flirty convos and concerned moment. In my head its clear they dont wait for the last moments to get 'intimate'. So when I see Garrus seaten in the chair in Shep's cabin, it feels to me like he's 'at home' taking care of business so you dont have to wake up. It fells like an 'establised couple' moment, not a 'I finally have you back' moment and thats really what I was hoping for since  the next convo is about mutant babies ^_^

what is it that Shep can say to Ash in the first game when they talk about religion 'I've been in enough foxholes to know everyone prays' or something like that. Well in ME3 the whole galaxy is one big foxhole we might say. Maybe it rubbed on Garrus.

Exactly. The reunion talk is him testing the waters and the date question is him wanting to cement the relationship. I'm pretty sure they had more offscreen times to themselves before that last night pre-battle and I figure they're pretty much comfortable around each other and having the other in their living space.

Edit: On another note, while Shepard and Garrus adopting krogan would be awesome (She sure knows how to raise one! *looks at Grunt*) I for one keep imagining how surprised they would be if biology actually worked with them on this one :D

From hindsight, its like he knows Shep and him arent making it out alive (im not counting the normandy stunt cause it just doesnt make any sense). I've been replaying some section and right from the beginning he tells Shep if they die together he will be ok with it. It kinda makes it bearable to replay somehow. I dont know how to explain... I find it hard to try rekindling my Kaidan romance on my faithful Shep because its hard to invest in it when its gonna crash. But for Garrus since it never stopped and he knows very well they might die... it makes me want to give them the warrior death they deserve now that I know its inevitable.

I dont know if it makes sense for someone else.

Well i have nothing against them surviving either ;)

I saddly find myself unable to replay the game while pretending the ending isnt coming. Its like im playing against the game.  Like when Im going to see Kaidan in the hospital, the first thing I think is 'you can let go, its all gonna be over soon anyway'. So, yeah, I fail at headcanoning <_<

I just wanna say that, as a huge Kaidan fan, I dont think I'll ever be able to do his romance again. I've only just gotten to the date and I'm blown away by how amazing it is. The depth of support they show each other, makes it the best Bioware one in my opinion. I love his humor and how solid he is. And the line in the fancy hover car; loosely quoting...
Garrus: Ever thought of that one thing you'd like to do before you die?
Shep: Well, I have woken up beside a turian.

I love the banter between them, and the VA's do an amazing job as always. Just wanted to state my love since I'm new to this thread. <3

Same here.  I avoided all spoilers and this website for like eight months.  But once the "I'll watch you from up there" bit started I was bawling.  And I was starting to think that maybeeeeeee there was no 'Shepard lives' option.

*** *** ***

Also, I had romanced Kaiden in ME1, which led to this awkward and tacky moment.  Garrus in his first conversation mentioned that he can afford nicer wine, and you see the blue bottle.  It's the same blue bottle that you give to Kaiden while he's in the hospital.  It just seemed so...wrong.

You make sense.

Like you say Garrus coming out alive for me made no sense (No idea how he survived, just suspending my belief for a while (because really, how?)). I expected him to die. I was ready for both of them to die. I think that more than anything him living made me cry more. Because you can tell they care about each other that they may not make it out alive. That they both may die. They understand and accept that. No other book, film or game had me this invested in a relationship and wanting it to be ok for the characters. I wanted a happy ending badly.

But saying that I actually thought they were great endings. I expected them. Just not Garrus to live. That hurt. I just re-watched the goodbye scene and it still hurts.
