I would have been okay with them both dying and to me made perfect with maybe a fade to black with the sound of glasses tinking together. Maybe even a fade out of Garrus saying, 'Just like old times, eh, Shepard?' Makes me wanna cry just imagining it. If the ending isnt a hallucination like people speculate, i'm torn about one alive, the other dead.

I had to take a minute after he uttered that "Never..." in the final conversation. First time a game made me tear up.

I've listened to the leaked convo mp3 but not seen it in-game yet. Now I can't wait for that scene.

From hindsight, its like he knows Shep and him arent making it out alive (im not counting the normandy stunt cause it just doesnt make any sense). I've been replaying some section and right from the beginning he tells Shep if they die together he will be ok with it. It kinda makes it bearable to replay somehow. I dont know how to explain... I find it hard to try rekindling my Kaidan romance on my faithful Shep because its hard to invest in it when its gonna crash. But for Garrus since it never stopped and he knows very well they might die... it makes me want to give them the warrior death they deserve now that I know its inevitable.

I dont know if it makes sense for someone else.

:crying: You have a way with words my friend. I'd always felt that my renegade shep and him would go out in a style, guns blazing. If your going to die then die fighting. It's not that bit that saddens me, Shep dying is epic if written so. But their endings are just....Sorry, I won't rant, I promise ;)

Well I hate the endings. But if that's the way Bioware wants it, so be it. Just one thing : the Normandy scene did. Not. Happen.
Garrus does not go from "wounded in London" to "smiling to Joker on a random planet, knowing Shep is most likely dead."

Sorry this post is so long. I beat the game two days ago and my BSN account wasnt’ recognizing I had this game and wouldn’t let me post so ... shennanigans. So I’ve had a lot of time to think so ... long post

What a wonderful romance. The first little thing I noticed was when you are en route to rescue the Primarch. I was in the shuttle with Vega and Liara and we’re hearing about how bad things are on Palaven and my Shepard hangs her head in despair and Liara says, “I’m sorry Shepard.” Vega, confused says something along the lines of, “What’s going on?” My shepard says nothing so Liara responds to him, saying: “We have a... friend on Palaven.”

I was so blown away by those few lines of dialogue. I don’t know if there is a similar conversation if you didn’t romance Garrus but for me it was wonderful not only to see that my Shepard was so distraught, but that Liara noticed and knew why I was upset.

So I knew Garrus was somewhere on Palaven’s moon and of course I squeed when I saw him and then immedietly went, “Handshake?! What the hell?! Not even a headbump this time?”
Of course my frustration was short lived becasue when we got back to the Normandy you get to have that delightful reunion conversation... and kiss him (SQUEEE)!

And the date on the Citadel? Perfection. ( DAT DIP KISS )

And even though I didn’t get my shirtless turian dream, I did really like the scene in Shepard’s cabin... mostly because it solidified for me that they’ve been spending the night together pretty much since he rejoined the squad. (The other line that made me think that was after act 1 when he says, “Go get some rest. If anything happens I’ll come get you... I know where you sleep). At first I was a little miffed that he wasn’t in bed with you when you wake up but now I like the fact that he’s sitting awake, keeping watch while you get some sleep. (Also on that note, Lady Shepard has really nice taste in underwear, whoa)

And the goodbye... I cried. I had to pause the game and go get myself under control. I love the goodbye because it just runs the whole gauntlet of outcomes from their dreams for the future if they both make it, to both of them dying, to that beautiful (thank you Jennifer Hale) line telling him that if he makes it and she doesn’t; she’ll watch over him and he’s not alone. Just thinking about it makes me tear up.

I won’t get too much into the ending (and how confused I was about him being on the Normandy when he was just with me on earth) but like most people I really wish the game had ended with Shepard and Anderson looking down on Earth, watching the Crucible dock and Anderson saying, “You did good.”

I can’t decide in my headcannon if Garrus died when Harbinger landed and then Sheperd bled out up on the Citidel (and then they met up for those drinks) or... Garrus and Liara (the other squadmate I had with me) make it up to the citidel and find her in time to keep her from dying. Weeks later Shepard wakes up with Garrus sitting by her bedside (like their last night on the Normandy).

On my FemShep/Kaidan, she says the same thing. I think it's just fitting as to realize that Garrus was first your friend. At least in my opinion.

As far as the handshake goes, I didn't see that. It went quickly from a professional handshake to him holding my hand with both of his. That solidified the relationship for me and how he kept his composure and overwhelming excitement to see Shepard.

I'm glad you enjoyed the Garrus romance. Kudos. Still working on mines.

I get the exact same feeling from the cabin scene. I'm glad there's no big 'I realized I love you' moment, just him comforting Shep as if the relationship is already established. It's easy to see thats where he's been sleeping for a while when you have him lounging on the chair when Shep wakes up. He looked 'at home' to me.

As for your 2 potential headcanon endings, both are great. I wouldnt be annoyed having any of them.^_^

Agreed. Loved everything about this pairing. And now that the story's done, I wonder if any character will ever make me love him/her as much as Garrus did throughout the course of these three games.

That 'handshake' was the sweetest, most subtle touch. And her voice when she sees him. They obviously had to wait due to the audience but that action alone was enough for me. I'm a firm believer in how the small things can mean so much more.
I am wondering though, is there any difference in dialogue if you never romanced Kaidan? I'd like to make a save for that but if there's no difference...

Finally got through a playthrough. I usually use the male Shepard, and even then the conversation with Garrus on Earth made me start tearing up.

And the ending. Holy **** can they make it any more depressing? So essentially all the relays blow up, people are now stranded across space, and galactic society has to start over from scratch? I mean, that could be an interesting plot for another game. But establishing a universe over several games that people fall in love with just to end it all like that? Not cool.
I remember they said this was going to be the last of Shepard, but they didn't say it was going to be the last of everything.

I don't know if I can play it again. I haven't been this sad in quite a while.

The handshake is romance specific. <3 I'm absolutely certain she wanted to throw herself into his arms. XD

I'm not sure what I think about that scene. I had Garrus and EDI as my final squad, so at first I was wondering why Joker picked them up and no one else. It sounds like you see them regardless, though. I was a bit relieved that Garrus made it, then realized that with the Normandy down, they've got until the food stores run out. Garrus and Joker can't survive on the same planet.

I think I'd rather have had Garrus die in the final push than be stranded where he may either starve or have a fatal allergic reaction.

That aside, the tone of the romance was perfect.

Yeah I recently watched the goodbye conversation with a Garrus who isn't romanced and it's still tear inducing.

They are actually really similar, the main difference being the dialogue about having kids... speaking of which I chose a paragon route but I also really like the, "What? Afraid they'll find Daddy's rifle collection?"

Ditto. At first I was afraid they might have been vaporized during that run to the beam.
At first I was ok with Shepard sacrificing him/herself, but the thought of Garrus loosing his best friend. That gets me.

As long as I don't have a decent explanation as to why the hell Joker took all my squadmates and RAN OFF without anyone trying to stop him, I'm denying this scene entirely.

That scene is plain impossible. Harbinger didnt stop attacking until Shep made her final decision. How could Joker have saved Garrus in time to run to a relay before it explodes? How did he knew he had to run anyway?
I could (maybe) understand if he started flying away some time before. But then it would only be him and EDI, since she *is* the ship.

Here's my theory. They realized the end was sad ad people would be angry. So they decided to put something 'hopeful' afterward. Like your LI surviving (without you). Great job guys. :pinched:

yeah, I didnt get the whole Normandy ending at all......I went into the final run spoiler-free, had no idea what was coming. Took my two best-buds-from-the-begining with me (Garrus and Tali) on the final run for the crucible. After dying I dont know how many times to that #$%@! marauder, I kind of did a shuffly loop of the area and found my dead squad behind a burned out mako. (and died a little inside)....but I know people who have done the same thing and had their 'dead' squad walk out of the Normandy on the abandoned planet.
I know Chakwas is good, but daaaaaamn.
And if they do live, how/why did Joker swoop in, snag your squad and leave Shepard there?

They don't die if you have enough war assets apparently. I didn't see them anywhere.

And I still don't see why Joker ran away from the battle. Somebody suggested it was to save EDI.

Which could almost make sense. But how could he know he needed to pick up Garrus and fly to a massrelay before Shep explodes them.

Maybe the kid in the Crucible was his little nephew.
So he sent him a text about how things were gonna turn out.
