Your Kaliya sounds a lot like my Lexane. ;)

She's such a b**** in ME1 ^_^  Paragade so she's polite, but cold enough to freeze off a penguin's nipples.  It almost feels like I'm playing a different person from the way she is in ME3.

It's always interesting to see how characters evolve over time.

Yep. Same. Paragade too. She's very b*tchy in ME1 but boy, she's almost an angel in ME3. And of course she's warmed up to aliens.

Garrus in particular.

I've always headcanonned a scene right after Virmire in which she bumps into Garrus on the Normandy, makes him sit down, admits that she's been wrong about him, that she considers him a friend, and that she knows she can trust him - while avoiding looking at him in the eyes.

Seriously.  And it's so cool seeing the other companions change and grow too.  I got ME1 Tali, Garrus, Liara, and Wrex and was like, "You're all such dopes but you will all take 5000 levels in AWESOME."  Except Wrex, he was already awesome and only levels up a few times.  Any more and he'd cause the universe to explode with his awesome.

And then there's Kaidan and Ash.  I still don't know how to feel about them knowing what the VS is like in ME3.

Huh, guess my Adela Shepard's the odd one out. She was an angel in ME1, paragon to the extreme. After being rebuild she was far more renegade, not afraid to pull the trigger. She liked shooting things far more in the later two.

My Jane's like that. Complete angel in ME1, but she gets pissed off in ME2. :P

Actually Wrex's character arc made him evolve a lot. From the mercenary holding no hope for his people, to a fearless and passionate leader. His level of awesomeness is incredibly high in every game, though.

I like when he and Grunt yell at the enemies they're Krogan, makes me proud. <3 All the characters made my Shepard proud. <3

Kaliya stayed Paragade the whole series, but for very different things.  She was polite but ice-cold in ME1, and over the course of the games, she became more compassionate but also developed a shorter fuse.  I like to think that every time she loses her temper in ME2 and 3, she tells Garrus he's a bad influence on her ^_^

Just did the Grissom academy mission on my second play through. Talked to G afterword and he says:

(Paraphrasing) "I hate thinking of all the kids who have to grow up during this war... when this is all over there are going to be a lot of angry orphans."

Made me want to cuddle him so hard!

Oh and have I also mentioned how I love that he spends his time on the Citadel helping refugees from Palaven?

Lexane often accuses him of making her a softie. She gradually gets very protective of him in ME1, although she tells him that she doesn't trust him when they first meet (and apologizes for it later). And then ME2... I guess she needed comfort. He came along just at the right moment for her. No surprise as to why she fell for him so quickly after the Archangel mission.

Eh. I've tried to think of what ending would fit the Shepard/Garrus romance best. My mind changes everyday on how I'd like it to end.
Yesterday I wanted an ending where both Garrus and Shepard end up on some kind of beach, overlooking a muted but beautiful sunset. They share a look, one of hope, before their hands interlock. Shepard leans into Garrus, a soft smile forming on her lips before the cutscene begins to span out and then a fade to black.

After running through the "romance goodbye" with Garrus again, somehow  I feel this is more appropriate (Excuse the mini-story. Feeling somewhat in a creative mood and must get it out before bed!).

Cue Music:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An eerie silence suddenly haunted the rubble and half standing buildings in London.

Soldiers crouched in their defensive postures, fear and pain blended on their features as they waited wordlessly for the cloak of death to sweep over them.

A swift tremor made the ground underneath London shake as the first Reaper fell to its death. Then another. Then another.

A rallying cry of victory spread over the troops like wildfire as they watched the Reapers burn on Earth’s own soil. Some threw down their guns. Some lifted their hands into the air in relief and astonishment. Some embraced.

They had won.

They had defeated the Reapers.

Garrus stood from behind his cover. His features were mute as his gaze roamed over the wreckage before him. What was once the beam leading to the Citadel was now a graveyard full of burning or dead Reapers. He could hear the cries of victory but only barely. He carelessly dropped his rifle on the ground beside him and began to wander aimlessly.

“Shepard,” he whispered to himself, his voice hoarse and drowned with emotion. He crouched near a pile of rubble and quickly began to throw debris out of his way, digging and searching for any clues of her. “Shepard.” He said again, this time a little louder for those nearby to hear.

When his search came up empty, he ran across to another pile of rubble and quickly began heaving everything out of his way. Deeper down within the pile of wreckage he finally caught site of fingers. Human fingers. Despite being wounded himself, he completely ignored the cold, nagging feeling of pain to lift a heavy piece of rubble out of his way. A helmet came into view. His heart burst into his throat in anticipation as he began to pull the feminine form out of the grey remains.

He pulled the body gently into his arms and lifted the helmet from the woman’s head. His heart twisted in pain and his knees began to tremble as the wound on his side continued to bleed. As the helmet fully dislodged, he looked on in horror. Rage welled within his chest.

He let the body of the stranger gently fall to the ground. “Shepard!” His voice was distressed now, hurt and desperation edging into his tone.

He was beginning to attract a large crowd of strangers and friends alike as his search continued. Some looked on in stricken horror; realization finally crowding into the edges of their consciousness at the reality of the situation. Others watched him search with sympathy and compassion in their hearts at the turian’s loss; wouldn’t they be doing this search in a few hours too? For friends and loved ones?

Tali’Zorah began to step forward to try and reach Garrus before Liara lifted her arm, barring the way.

“Look at him, Liara.” The quarian begged, tears beginning to form in her own eyes in the shadowy emptiness of her helmet. “He’s--.”

“I know,” Liara responded softly as she took the quarian woman into her arms, comforting her. “Let him grieve.”

“Shepard!” Garrus called again as he looked around at the empty faces of the people watching him.

As he searched through another haphazard pile of rubble he felt his heart begin to sink. He was losing hope of finding her. An echo of remembrance passed hazily through his mind as he clawed his way through the stone. If this thing goes sideways. . .

He shook the memory from his thoughts and began to heave some kind of large stone post out of the way. When he didn’t find her there he turned his back on the people who were watching him and stared out into the distance for a long time. His features and eyes were blank; emotion had been stripped from each purposefully as his heart began to drip away into an empty void.

“The one thing to go right. . .” He murmured softly to himself and began to shake his head.

A soft rumble of debris off to his left caught his attention. Small, rock sized pieces of rubble were crumbling down and near his feet. He took a breath and then slowly maneuvered around a few walls and beams.

His heart soared.

A battered and badly injured Shepard lay under a small amount of debris. With a rush of anxiety and adrenaline he picked the rubble off of her form in a matter of minutes.

“Shepard?” He murmured to her worriedly in between breaths as she didn’t respond.

With the last of his strength he hesitantly lifted the woman’s body in his arms and cradled her like he’d studied in those ‘human marriage’ vids. His eyes fell to the damaged armor on her chest. She wasn’t breathing.

He took a breath and began to walk forward. They left the hidden pile of rubble and began to face the crowd of spectators. Together.

He didn’t know where he was going. He looked down at her lifeless form again, his eyes drifting over her bruised and cut face. He gently kissed her cheek and then, as proudly as he could, began to carry the hero’s form away from the spot of her death.

As the soldier’s began to take notice of Commander Shepard’s form in the turian’s arms, they began to form a single line on either side for him to walk in between.

As he passed by each man and woman on either side of him, no matter of gender or race, their hands would proudly and respectfully rise to their foreheads in salute.

There was no end in sight for those paying their respects to their beloved hero. So Garrus did what he knew best.
He kept walking.

Blood started to drip from both of their forms as he ambled, small puddles intertwining on the ground to embody their journey together.

“You know, Shepard. . .” Garrus whispered gently in her ear as he walked.  “. . .I’d do anything to have you bac--.”

Shepard breathed in deeply, frantically, as if waking from the dead. She was feeble, and barely aware of her surroundings, but she slowly began to realize that she was being carried. Her initial vision was nothing but darkness and as she blinked, the cold and hard reality set in that no matter how many times she blinked nothing would change. She coughed meekly.

“Shepard,” Garrus said to her, his tone warm and loving.

“Garrus,” Shepard finally choked out in a whisper as blood seeped from her mouth. "Don't leave me."

Garrus kissed her forehead and replied to her as earnestly as he could.

"I'm here Shepard; I'm here. You'll never be alone."

He fell to the ground on his knees as the last of his strength left him. He gently swung her back and forth affectionately as his own wounds began to be too much for him.

"Never."

Lovely writing, btw.  I'm ok with the dying together bittersweet ending, but god, it's so unfair.  They had so little time :crying:

Well just finished my second playthrough of my Zoë Shepard and managed to get her to live. Huzzah! Mission accomplished, mostly. Still need better endings. I had to play multiplayer for 3 hours to raise EMS, meh. Headcannon now dictates that she and Garrus retire on a beach with a horde of adopted war orphans. Kinda fitting for my orphan Earthborn paragade sniper gal. Tomorrow night I'll fire up a Vanguard since y'all recommended it. I know, I'm a glutton for punishment for continuing to play with those endings. Out of curiosity does anyone else yell at the screen "No not the Turians you bastards!" followed by your Shep nuking all those responsible in harming said Turians?

My headcanon tells me that Mama Shepard is the calm and laid back parent, and Daddy Garrus is the overprotective one.

This moves too fast while I'm sleeping.

*note to self, sleep less*

I always imagined that they would adopt one of each (Turian and human).

A friend of mine says playing a Vanguard in ME2 and fighting husks with shockwave is like going bowling. I've never been good with close quarters fighting, let alone a shotgun, but her description is too inspiring to pass up the opportunity. I've started up a Vanguard playthrough in ME1. I need... some time away from ME3.

I suppose I will have to settle for Kaiderp in ME1, since I'm leaving him alive this time around, and knocking plates with Turian isn't an option until ME2. I ported my romance with Garrus from ME2 to my maiden-run of ME3 and was not disappointed. I could feel my heart constricting as we talked about life after the Reapers in London. Garrus has spoiled me for all other LIs.
