No Shepard Without Vakarian: Garrus Love and Turian Discussion

On a related note, I've also always wondered what Turian language would sound like, without the translators. And then I shiver again.

Maybe some gentle nibbling with the beak part of the mouth, possibly with the mandibles as well. And I'm sure I've just given the pervier of the fans here some interesting mental images with that comment, so I'm gonna shut up now.

LOL, my boyfriend just looked over at my screen and saw the turian mouths. I will never live down my Garrus obsession, never.

Her and Garrus in ME 2. I think she got quite a facelift in ME3... errm... for the better. Love the Unreal 3 Engine.

Nina Shepard and Garrus enjoying the view. No hug, but lots of kisses after the camera fades to black.

Sorry if the pic quality is a bit dodgy, but I had to snap the pictures with a heavy Canon EOS camera, and I'm no Photoshop whiz.

The mandibles stretch out pretty far, but I'm curious to know how flexible they are.
Plus I think they can open their mouths pretty wide vertically, at least from some of the comics/concept drawings we've seen. So I can totally see it.
What always made me wonder is how dry their mouths must be. They don't have a perfect seal, at least it doesn't look like it. So either they salivate a lot or not at all. Which probably means they've got really raspy tongues, to help with predigesting their food, right?
/shuffles feet Maybe been thinking about this too much...
If they're like birds, they don't have much saliva.
And they probably are, because we know that turians have gizzards. Which means they don't need to chew their food as much. Which makes sense because those teeth are obviously not made for chewing, but rather tearing and poking. So yeah, dry mouth. And the mouth texture did make their tongues look raspy--although my real-world pet bird does not have a raspy tongue (most birds don't). So that's questionable.
And, well, if they did have a lot of saliva wouldn't they always be drooling? As you said, the mouth doesn't really seal that well with those mandibles...
... And as for the pointy "rending" teeth... that is why I don't think being bitten would be a good idea for Shepard. I always thought of it like a parrot's tongue. Mostly dry but sort of suede-like rather than raspy.
Mouth not sealing makes me wonder how well they swim. I can see Shep teasing Garrus about his inability to use a straw.
Garrus: Unlike humans, Turians don't suck, Shepard.

Introducing Psychic!Garrus
“I didn’t say there wouldn’t be causalities. It’s something turians are taught from birth- If just one survivor is left standing at the end of a war, then the fight was worth it. But humans want to save everyone. In this war, that’s not going to happen."
HE TRIED TO WARN US.

I picked up on something interesting while re-watching my Garrus scenes. This is part of the first conversation you have with Garrus after he's back on the Normandy and Shepard asks him what he thinks their chances of winning the war are.

In the friendship dialogue on the Citadel, Garrus actually says outright that turians don't swim especially well. After Shepard invites him to jump into the 'pool' (the lake on the presidium).
Something about there being a lot of splashing, with a bit of drowning thrown in.

Has anyone gotten the scene where Shep can confide in Garrus should she/he kill Mordin and sabotage the cure?
Is this while he's talking with Joker or is it down in the Main Battery?
Do you have a vid of it?

Be warned that it contains extreamely depressing scenes in which Shep murders Mordin.. and then later after Wrex finds out you faked the cure (Mordin wasn't his only inside source in the Salarian Government) there's a confrontation that results in dead Wrex.

*wails*
I know you can save Mordin if Wreav leads the krogan and Eve dies, but...I can't do it. I just can't. If you do everything right, Tuchanka is the first real unequivocal bright spot in an increasingly bleak story. Hearing Wrex and Eve call my Earthborn Shep "sister" lifted my spirits so much after the rest of the first act in ME3.

I do like how Garrus put his hand on Shep's shoulder though when on the bridge. I could never have made that choice though.

Thank you very much for linking this!
I'd had already seen the scene of Wrex getting shot, but the Mordin one was heart wrenching.... agh!
I have to say though... Garrus' reaction to the news is interesting. You can see that the Shepard that confided was also in a Romance (you don't get all huggy with him as a friend) so like no matter what.... he supports you.
Dawwww Gar bear, I just wants to cuddle you!

I mean i love Mordin, but I personally didn't feel guilty seeing him go as he did, he just seemed so content and proud.
I do think its pretty telling that Garrus is the only person in the game your Shepard will confess to if she sabotages the cure.
Shepard may be the only part of the universe he'll look at in shades of grey

Whether you friend or romance him, Garrus knows Shep is under absolutely ridiculous amounts of strain. Shep doesn't need second-guessing or guilt-tripping or suspicion, s/he needs support. And Garrus gives it unconditionally, unequivocally.
I'd say that for my Shep, Garrus's love and comfort carried her through at least 2/3rds of the game. She couldn't have done it without him.
