In my playthrough she was drunk. :3

Karrie!! She was drunk in my playthrough, too!! Thank the spirits for Kasumi and the open bar!!

YES!!  I thought "There's no way in hell my Shepard would just go to Garrus and propose sex just like that. She needs alcohol."
What's even more hilarious is picturing her reaction the next morning "What the hell just happened? Did I just ask Garrus to...? wait... and he said yes??"

Holy crap... I seriously thought my Shep was becoming an alcoholic in ME2... anytime things went awry, she was at that bar.

Omg! I think Garrus was afraid my Shep was becoming an alcoholic, every time they went to the Citadel in ME2 she went straight for the Turian Bartender. Poor Garrus had to drag her to the men's bathroom so many times. Can you imagine how awkward that must have been for him? Especially knowing there's another Turian taking a ****** right there.

Shepard: *Wakes up looking disoriented.*
Garrus: *Waiting in concern with a hint of nervousness at having dragged his Comanding Officer into the men's restroom while she's vunerable.*
Shepard: *Shakes her head and sits up taking in where she is. Recognizes the men's bathroom and notices the other Turian peeing. Looks at Garrus in a bit of confusion.*
Garrus: *Stares at her and they share an awkward silence as the other Turian leaves.*
Shepard: *Licks her dry lips before finally speaking.* "He didn't wash his hands."
Garrus: "..."

Shepard may be like the parent of her ship and crew but I think Garrus is the parent to her. He's got a lot on his hands. xD

So, after lurking on this board for a while and reading all the lovely things people have to say about Garrus, and the various sweet and adorable things he says and does, I was inspired to replay ME2 and ME3 with a Garrus romance, as I have always been a Kaidan girl.  I just want to say THANK YOU!  Garrus is a way better boyfriend than Kaidan ever was!

So question...is it true that even if you didn't romance Kaidan in ME1 that he'll declare his love for Shep in 3 if she has lunch with him before doing the date with Garrus?

Wow after reading some of these posts, I'm glad I didn't romance Ashley, or Kaiden.

Yes! And I had to tell him that we should just keep it professional and he said it wasn't what he wanted to hear, but he'd respect my wishes.

Depends on your interpretation of 'declare'. If you go see him in at the hospital, bring the wine and tell him his awsome, he will hint at some feelings for Shep even if she never romanced him. Has to do with him being romancable for all new Sheps in ME3. Its a disservice to the character imho but there you have it.

Kaiden is Carth 2.0

Carth: I love you but I don't trust you!
Kaidan: I love you but I don't trust you!

I'd actually disagree.  Carth is suspicious by nature, Kaidan suspicious by a combination of legitimate concerns over Cerberus and BioWare's attempt to add TEH DRAMAZ to an otherwise reasonable and level-headed character <_<  It made Kaidan far more sympathetic to me, at least.

Carth's suspicion made sense to me. I was the brainwashed big bad that a lot of people were reasonably expecting to flip out and kill everyone. I'd be worried about me too. Kaidan was just obnoxious. "Are you really really sure you're not a husk? Really?"

As to how I chose Garrus, I started the series with ME2 and having heard that Garrus was the best. I tried it and cringed through the first "blowing off steam" scene. It felt so awkward and inappropriate. I felt a bit better about it by the end of the game, but when I restarted with ME1 I was pretty sure I'd go for Garrus as a bro instead of an LI. Kaidan didn't interest me much, but I tried to hear him out. Then I got Kaidan's "you seem to have a vague interest in me as a person but aren't madly in love with me. Does not compute" speech and wrote him off.

I almost tried the Thane romance the second time around, but the habit of narrating his memories was a bit too odd for me. Add in being hallucinogenic, and I decided to pass. Besides, I was happier with his and Shep's role in the story when he did succeed in his getting his affairs in order and she didn't complicate it.

Garrus was still one of my favorite characters, so I did the romance again for the extra dialogue and so I could see what became of it in ME3. ME3 was worth it.

Yep, he tells Shep he wants more from their relationship. This happened to me the first time I played. Fortunately you can turn him down politely. Sara is a "one Turian woman" after all. Posted Image

This is why I love Ashley.

Though I "cheated" on her with Tali in my newest playthrough. I expect drama. I'm already getting some. I don't like the fact that Shep looks at her on Mars when he tells Liara something like "I focus on something worth fighting for."

... helloooo? Remember Tali'Zorah vas Normandy? Ring a bell?

Well that would be really awkward then. The only reason why I'd want Kaidan to do that would be to hear awesome jealousy banter from him about Garrus and Garrus being all classy about it. Alas...

Hey, if Shepard has the time and money to buy a fish feeder and go dancing with Jack I think Kaidan and Garrus could have fun lines on the Normandy. If you think about it I have no idea how Shepard made the time to fly to every starcluster looking for old books and pillars for every side quest heard. It's almost like people heard what Shep was doing  and went out of the way to mention.

Shepard: *Sits down for a drink at the bar happily about to take her first sip.*
Random Asari/Turian/Volus: *Really loudly.* "So yeah I need this really old flag in some obscure part of Reaper invaded space or my people will lose hope and we'll all DIE!"
Shepard: *Sighs and puts her drink down.* "I'm on it." -.-

I don't think either Kaidan of Garrus are the jealous type as were Fenris and Anders. I think no matter what decision Shepard made, they'd go along with it, out of respect for her.
Look at Garrus when he gets rejected: he handles it like a boss. I can't picture him getting jealous. I really can't.

Those side quests were awful.

Oh. I get it, I really do. Seriously. She must have been like, "Can't anyone do anything for themselves?" It's exhausting thinking about all the stuff she does for NOTHING. **shakes head**

I hate to regrouse, but our Shepards deserved more.

I can picture Kaidan being a bit jealous but yeah Garrus is too laid back.

God, those freakin' side quest were the bane of my Shep's existence. I cheat and use the guide to know what planets to scan because my first playthrough I had fifty heart attacks when the reaper horn sounded and start chasing you across the map. Plus I was worried if they had time limits.

What's terrible is I drop everything to help the Turians...

She really does, Hackett needs to send more money...

Ooh, better yet, send Kaidan. Tell him it's his duty as a new Spectre and he's doing the galaxy a service.

It's hilarious - my 3 and 5 year old jump off the sofa and yell, "REAPERS!!! REAPERS, MOMMA, REAPERS!! RUN!!!"
Which does nothing for the stress of the situation. :?

Maybe. The only time we see him getting jealous is during the confrontation with Shep and Liara in ME1. And even then, he's more like "I don't understand, I thought I received signals from you" rather than "you b*tch how could you!". You know, like Ashley does.

Btw, does anyone else have a hard time picturing the Volus in their battle bomb ships. The only way I can picture it is if they all sit in those floaty chairs you see in WALL.E.

Volus: *Shik.* I own this ship. *Shik* I own you! *Bombs a reaper.*

I bet they even have cup holders.

Id love to see the one 'biotic god' volus trying to attack a Reaper if you saved him on Illium.

Yeah...all the reaper would need to do is spin suddenly causing a great wind to toss the Volus 'biotic god' like a plastic bag. I love how Garrus just shrugs at Shep when the Volus tries to intimidate him. He had some great lines on that quest.

Edit: Here.
