I don't think it works to compare turians directly to birds, though.

There are a lot of birds where the genders look almost identical. For instance, I had a budgie and for the first year or two we debated whether or not he was even male because the only identifiers we had heard for budgies, his were strangely in-between. And then you have some birds where the female is vastly bigger and rounder, which admittedly would be kind of adorable in the case of turians, but is apparently not the case.

I dislike the comics version because it makes no sense for a species that develops plates as a means of defense against radiation to have one entire gender bald, exposing one of their most vital parts to said radiation, just so that the males can look 'fancier'.

That and Garrus referred to Shepard's hair as similar to fringe, so I like to imagine the 'fringe' on a female is in the same typical place as hair, meaning the top of the head (rather than the excuse that fringe just refers to the brow and cheek plates, which to me makes little sense as a comparison).

Also, I just find them aesthetically unpleasing, tbh. Of the current designs, you can tell that one gender was designed after much deliberation and the other was whipped up on the fly for a comic book.

Well yea, if they hadn't had so many references to female's fringe (at the bar and from Garrus), then maybe their comic design would be somewhat alright. The radiation thing does make for a problem though, and that would still have to be ignored for everything to work... There's a lot of problems with this game series, but if they did it right -- than perhaps their comic design would be ok. I don't know -- I'm just trying to find justification for their numerous mistakes. I can't even look at my one Thane-romance save yet...

I know the endings don't exist.....but if they did, this is my FemShep/Garrus song. I've got a sad fanfic in mind now but I refuse to write it.

It's simple and I find it beautiful. The words gave me chills.

Late to the party, and nothing special to say. Just, don't ever be ashamed of yourself, you are all awesome, but don't lose faith in the world either. Things can change pretty fast without you even realizing it, for the better. Stay hopeful.

And again, I think you guys are terrific and I love hanging out here.

As for the female turians design from the comic, I can't say I like it, they look... well... masculine. There was a design on DA that I thought was terrific... I'll link it if I find it again (plus there's a turian baby in the picture :3)

I haven't decided to accept that as THE female turian look.

Mostly because I enjoy running my Shepards up to random turians and circling. "You're a woman, aren't you? REVEAL ALL YOUR SECRETS."

I'd like it a lot if male and female turians look and sound the same to us, but it's obvious to them. ;)

What Garrus said about supportive waists means that they that the female turians have a impressive ass in my shallow and silly male mind. Sorry.

Do you mean to imply male turians (or at least our modeled turian) DON'T?

I've tried to figure out what 'supportive' meant but it's stumped my imagination. I've been going by the assumption that turian females are actually straighter and less hourglass-shaped than the males.

Also, re the personal life a page back.

Allow me to offer some cliches from someone on the other side!

Your head is a nice place to live, but remember to check out the view from other peoples'.

Not only does volunteering get you out and usually offer fun for free, but it gets you a free sense of righteousness and anecdotes.

Other people are also generally confused and trying to do right by the world and themselves. Be nice to them. Being people is hard these days.

Be patient. Everything changes. Only your perspective stays constant, and even that's a little wobbly.

Garrus is freaking awesome.

Yeah that might be the case. Kind of boring from a fanboy perspective though. I'll stop now.

Actually, one of the BioWare devs has come out to say that the comic design is inaccurate and that female turians do have fringe. I'll see if I can find the source again, but it was on twitter so I'm not sure how long that will take.

Coming from one of the (much) older people here... these are words of wisdom.  Especially that last sentence. :D

Srsly, next game they're going to introduce their new fantasy love interest designed just for us girls for the sake of being ridiculously attractive to all women.

I'm still amused by the idea that any one character must (or could) be attractive to all women. Even assuming they're only targetting all women interested in men, that's a pretty diverse set of preferences. They really shouldn't have been surprised about the ideas going off in wildly different directions.

I generally love BioWare's characters, but in my opinion they tend to make guys a lot more attractive when they're NOT supposed to be romances. Cases in point; Garrus, Varric, Carver, Sagacious Zu. EDIT: Oh! And Vega! Man, did he turn out to be a surprise.

I'd have sworn I saw a quote once that said for some reason they get more attractive designs when not mentioning it's for a romanceable character, but I can't find it now. Arg.

The best characters tend to be ones not designed just to be a romance.

Everyone has joys in life -- passions -- most of us here, at least, have one in common -- Garrus.

These things make us feel good, as they should. :D

Yep.
Which is a big reason why Garrus is the best Bioware romance to date.

I too am of the older crowd, and a huge Garrus fan.
I mean, really, how could anyone think that any male besides Garrus could possibly be the right match for Shepard?
Kaidan is entirely too soft and way too tied up in control issues.
Thane is a "maybe", but he really is too ... sedate.
Jacob? WAY too straight lace/tow the line.

Garrus, especially post-Omega Garrus, is definitely the man for the job.

;)
