It is official.

Personally not going to think on the issue until I see what their artistic clarification actually is. It's going to either make the ending make total sense (hard to believe at this point I know) or it's going to make the ending even worse.

But at least it's free.

Until April 12th 2014!

Hello, I'm another lurker who decided to finally join you :)

The Extended Cut DLC is going to be free, and yes, it's official. See here: http://social.biowar.../index/11028261

I'm not going to be overly optimistic, though. It doesn't look like they're going to change anything, just add some "clarification" :/ I will only be somewhat satisfied if it turns out the galaxy and the Normandy's crew aren't really that screwed. If it still means that my Shep & Garrus never get to see each other again... well, my headcanon is just going to live on.

Wow, this is...unexpected.  Glad to see bioware is trying to make it right, but the fact that its free shows they care enough (or are just smart enogh) not to add more fuel to the fire.  I really hope it turns out to be good.

I'm glad the extended cut DLC is free, and that it provides some closure. I hope I'm getting my hopes too high to think that my surviving Shepard could possibly end up reuniting with Garrus.

Though I thought the endings were bad and a huge slap in the face, I do hope for something to make sense of them and let me know that the last 100 hours of my life weren't completely wasted.

Mostly... I hope something can go right for Garrus... just once... just...

It is good to see that they are trying to make the best out of a bad situation.  I didn't expect it to be free... at all.  I want to feel the way I felt about Mass Effect 15 minutes before the ending, and hopefully Bioware can make the right choices for it.  They have in the past, and hopefully they will make the right choices in the future.

Hey Sia :D I hope you have lots of ideas ready just in case the DLC flops and we all need to gorge ourselves on fanfic in an attempt to self-medicate and survive a second round of disappointment.

That said I'm going to keep an ear to the ground. I'm really hoping BW can do this right.

You're right. Long live headcanon. She'll live in Grasse and spend her free time watching holovids with the kids.

Well... I've already written a rough version of the ending for the ME3 leg of Loved.

I posted it in Clan V. S'pose I can move it here if y'all need it.

OK, here it is.

It was such a small thing, so fragile.  The slim beaded chain slipped through his fingers as he tried to make sense of the last few hours.  That beam had hit too quickly.  He’d dove out of the way, expecting her to be right there beside him, laughing at their close call.  Horror made him scramble back to her in the debris and the dust as the beam engulfed her, her arms stretched out to the side, her impossibly colored eyes staring at him through the light until she disappeared.

Alenko had hauled him to his feet in time to meet another wave of husks.  The entire time, he refused to think about her not coming back.  About that beam killing her.  He told himself they were keeping the ground clear in case she returned the same way she left.  The way Alenko kept muttering, “She’s not dead,” made him think the biotic would agree.

The chain glinted dully in the light of the empty fish tank.  He threaded it through his fingers, bringing the dangling tag up to hold between his fingers.  The brilliant red of the N glowed defiantly next to the inky black 7.  He turned the tags over and ran his thumb across the lasered engraving, “Meghan H. Shepard.”  A serial number in clear block print crawled under it next to a few other vital statistics.

“I’ll be here if you need me.”  He’d always told her that.

“I’ll always need you.” She’d laugh in response.

They were surrounded and outnumbered and overwhelmed, husks and marauders and brutes breathing down their necks.  He and Alenko had looked at each other.  The knowledge that they would not move from this spot until she came back flashed between them that he’d almost believed the human superstition about biotics reading minds.  And then it was back to fighting for their lives.  Out of ammunition, Alenko panting in biotic exhaustion, yet another brute charged at them from the cloud of fire and dust smoke they entered the atmosphere in.

And then, the thing’s feet went out from under it and it skidded to a stop, face first into the pile of bodies at their feet.  The Infiltrator looked around, his scouter relaying the information his eyes could barely believe.  All over the bombed out city, the mechanical zombies, as Shepard had called them, dropped bonelessly to the ground.  He and Alenko stared at each other then raised their faces to the sky, watching.  But the only thing that met their eyes was the brilliant explosions as the combined fleet turned as one and fired upon the space-faring leviathans.

“Where the hell is Shepard?” “Shepard, report!”  “Commander, Commander, where are you?”  Each cry had gone over the comms and was met with silence.  Garrus stumbled over to a rock, not actually caring any more if they were attacked again.  She hadn’t come back.

His thumb ran over the edge of the tag.  “Why do they call them dog tags?”

She’d finished putting a pin in her hair and took them from his hand, “Because an nickname for soldiers was ‘dogs’ and the tags were give to you to ID you when you died.  Now, they have more efficient means, but the tags are a symbol.  Humans like symbols.”

“Alenko here.  Shepard’s MIA.  We don’t know what happened.  Some sort of beam... came from orbit and... she just wasn’t here any more --”  He was interrupted by Joker’s voice.

“There’s a locator beacon coming from the location of the Citadel! No, I don’t care that the damned thing’s in pieces!”  There was the sound of a rude noise and Joker’s voice came back over the comm.  “Alenko, I’m picking up your team in eight minutes.  Get to the rendezvous point!”  Before Joker had finished, Garrus found himself on his feet and running through the rubble to the only high spot left in London.

It had been a delicate operation, trying to extract Shepard.  The Citadel looked like it had suffered a massive system’s failure and seemed to be tumbling aimlessly instead of in the gentle rotation to preserve artificial gravity.  Cortez had managed to get the shuttle close enough to one of the actual docking arms.  “You have ten minutes.”

“Wait, what?”  Garrus did his best not to snarl at the pilot.

“There’s an energy wave headed in this direction from the Charon Relay.  Whatever the hell she did, something happened to the Relay.  The smaller ships are already trying to land.  The larger ones are headed for Luna. Haul ass, turian.”

Vega and Liara had tried to talk him and Alenko into sitting this out.  But there was no way in hell he’d leave her here. Besides, they were all exhausted. “I’ll always need you.”  Tali had also climbed aboard the shuttle, muttering something about watching their backs.

Fortunately, it took them four to find her.  Garrus forced himself to look at the battered body of the woman he loved.  Her helmet was still on.  Fortunate, as this section was venting atmosphere as they worked to unbury her.  Her left leg was crushed, but still held together by the armor she’d always carefully maintained.  He tried not to think about what else was damaged. Liara lifted her gently with a small biotic field, cradling Meghan far more gently than even he could.  They traveled quickly back to the shuttle.

Chakwas met them in the cargo bay, a gravcart waiting.  “Leave her armor on,” she ordered.  “There’s no telling how much of her is being held together by it right now.”

Weak, faint, over the comms, just as he was about to remove his helmet, her voice.  “Garrus.”  Fingers flexed weakly.  He was there, grasping her smaller fingers.  “I’ll be here if you need me.”  His voice was thick, barely above a whisper but her hand tightened around his and then Chakwas sped away, tearing Meghan’s hand from his.

“Brace for impact!  All hands, brace for impact!” Joker shouted over the comms.  His training kicked in and then he wasn’t Garrus Vakarrian, worried sick about his human girlfriend, he was First Officer Vakarian, second in command of the Normandy whose captain was gravely injured and whose ship was in danger.  He shouted orders and got stunned crewmen moving.  Vega and Alenko and Cortez secured what they could in the docking bay as Liara raced to her office and Tali ran to engineering.  He headed for the CIC where the damage reports would roll in.

It took all of Joker’s skill and all of EDI’s ingenuity to keep the Normandy in one piece as the ship pitched and yawed in the relentless energy wave.  “I’m aiming for Earth!”

“Fine!  Land somewhere soft!” He shouted back at the pilot, hanging on to the console.

“No backseat pilots or I’ll hit a mountain!”  The ship shook around them, making staying his feet difficult, but Garrus managed it, barely.  The Normandy skidded to a halt, sparks exploding from a few consoles as EDI calmly began extinguishing any flare ups.

“I’ll be in medbay.  I want a report on damages ASAP,” he told Joker, though at the moment, he couldn’t really bring himself to care about anything other than Meghan.  She’d want the reports, though, when she woke up.  Spirits, let her wake up.

He came to a halt in front of the bay, staring in through the windows.  Chakwas worked frantically, the bucking Normandy hadn’t put a stop to her efforts at saving Shepard’s life.  Alenko, still the closest thing they had to a field medic, seemed to be prepping Traynor and a few others to donate blood to Shepard.  She’d mentioned it was handy there were a few of her type on board...

Until she spoke, he hadn’t noticed Liara standing next to him.  “Chakwas won’t give up, you know.  And Tali and Adams will get Shepard’s implants back online.”

He snorted.  “Never thought I’d miss that salarian as much as I do now.”

“I know.  I’m trying to track down Miranda.  No one else would know more about them, either.”

“Thank you.”

“You’re not alone, Garrus.”

He closed his eyes, briefly.  “I’ll be in her.. our quarters.  Let me know the minute she’s stable.  She’ll... want company.”

“You know, I wore a hole in the deckplating the day they brought your ass back on board, bleeding from your head.”

“That worried, huhn?”

“You tried to catch a rocket with your face, Garrus.  Yeah, I was terrified for you.  I’d just found you and was about to lose you in the same day?  ‘Worry’ is an understatement.”

He’d pulled her close then, burying his face between her neck and shoulder and wrapping his arms around her.
She’d worried for him.  Meghan had been afraid to lose him.

And now... he knew how she felt.  He tilted the dog tags to catch the dim light.  They reflected a blue glow that briefly reminded him of the flare of her biotics.  He clenched his fist around them. They were her spare set.  She should actually be wearing a set right now.  Those would be smeared with her blood.  Blood darker than the N7 stripe on the front.

She’d died once before, but he hadn’t witnessed it.  He’d half convinced himself it hadn’t happened, that the funeral had just been a nightmare.  This time, she was down there, her life in Chakwas’ hands.  There was no way in hell he could handle another funeral for her.  He tightened his fist around the tags til they bit into the skin of his palm.   She needed to know she had to stay.  He dropped the tags on the bed, not caring that the blood smearing the red stripe was now blue.

He would not go to another funeral for her.  Not if he could help it.

On the extended endings, I'm not quite sure how to feel about them yet. Like some of you have said it could be brilliant or make an already bad ending even worse somehow. Oh Bioware, talk about out of the frying pan...

I love your Shep + G conversations. "You tried to catch a rocket with your face." Hahah.

You live, goddamn it Shepard. In at least one game you live and have your happy ending. Because I directed your course over three games. Because your story developed along lines I chose. Because Bioware gave me an illusion of agency I could believe, and I ran with it wholeheartedly. Because if I have to seek out other people's work to get the endings you and I deserve Shep, I will do it. And I'll leave Bioware's ending in the dust where it belongs.

/end srsface

Thanks for your vision Sia.

I'm on a wait and see approach as well. The amount of negativity from the Story and Campaign discussion forum depresses me to no end. The DLC could bring us sufficient closure like Siduri's slides did yesterday. OR it could make the ending ten times worse.

Here's to hoping, my fellow Garrus fans. *raises glass*

Have you read the FAQ? When the announcement came out by EA, it was like, hope and faith in the community for a bit... then the FAQ came out and it was like Bioware going 'We're only clarifying them because you're all apparently too stupid to understand our artistic genius', then **** hit the fan again. It's like Bioware WANTS us to hate ME3.

Bioware, you gave me the most AWESOME romance in a game since Alistair with Garrus! How can I hate ME3!? WHY MUST YOU CONFLICT ME SO MUCH!?

The fan made slides were pretty damn good though and Garrus' is like, still the best.

Those slides are so awesome! I did one for each of my playthroughs. On each of them I've had over 6,000 EMS, to ensure that if anything ever comes out my Sheps have the chance of living and being reunited with their LIs. I personally LOVE the wedding in Tahiti bit, and the orphan part, and well all of the Garrusmance parts! But, my Thanemance save is still going to be tragic no matter what I guess. Probably fits though with her, Hera Shep's, personality though...

And to back up just a bit, yep some birds like being petted like a cat. Arden, since he's a baby, doesn't like his head petted much -- especially since his "fringe" is still growing in. Baby cockatiels don't have a full head crest of feathers until around 1yr old. Ha, I wonder if young turians grown into their fringe too?

Oh, and the discussion of Jack and Miranda's involvement in Shep and Garrus' wedding, made me lol. Ah, so very funny -- and true.

Thats right you give me that kinky look Garrus, oh yeah:wub:

The Story and Campaingn forum is always angry and depressing...I try not to go over there too often.  As for the DLC, I am cautiously optimistic.  They know the plot holes, they know where we need more detail/explanation, and I think (or at least hope) they will deliver.  An extended ending might even include an extended Shepard waking up seen...maybe...okay that might be a stretch lol.  I want to have faith in Bioware, and even though its not a new ending, it is free, so why not?
