Only problem with the genetically engineered turian/human baby idea is that the creation of 'hybrids' is illegal in alliance space according to the codex and while it doesn't say it explicitly it sounds like it's illegal in council space as well. Though shep is a spectre and saviour of the galaxy so maybe they'd let this one slide.
I just hate the thought of hybrid babies. There's no reason for it when they can just artificially inseminate, clone, or adopt. There's no way to know how the child will develop or if it'll have any health problems down the road (I doubt screening is 100% for a frankenstein baby), and s/he'll be scrutinized by the rest of the galaxy for being a freak of nature and eventually resent his/her parents for it.
No according to the codex genetic engineering is legal and common amongst humans, all alliance soldiers undergo heavy genetic modification to eradicate any weaknesses such as shortsightedness etc. It was only after humanity became part of citadel space that genetic modification became heavily restricted to preserve humanity's genetic diversity. Basically a human could modify anything that is unique or original to their species but they can’t add any abilities or qualities unique to other species. So a human couldn’t for instance modify themselves to be able to eat the same food as dextro based lifeforms or modify themselves to have longer lifespans.
As for the ability to actually create hybrids, it must be possible in the ME universe otherwise they wouldn’t have a law against the creation of them. Have to say though, like you I don’t like the idea of a turian/human hybrid baby. Adoption would definitely be the way my femshep would go, though that I think is more to do with her upbringing than differences in biology.
