IRL, yes, it's rare. :P
In fiction it's practically a standard.

is standard really?

I dont remember any other love triangles anyways... first ever game I've met with love interest was Knights of the old republic, and they dont carry over so :P. Not sure what other examples would make you say it is standard in sci fi.

In my fantasies, yeah, definitely.

In the game, not really.

Probably wouldn't go that far... neither Kaidan nor Garrus are that crazy when it comes to relationships anyway. They'll understand Shep's choice regardless of what she decides.

Garrus is a male... female pulls the right strings and to hell with rational thought.

Maybe, but look at when he gets rejected, either in ME2 or 3. Sure, you can see he's crushed (at least when the relationship gets serious, on his part anyway) but he handles it like a boss. No arguments. He accepts it.

Well rejection... and being cheated on is hell different for anyone.
He took rejection like most do. Sucks, it hurts... move on.

I don't consider that Shep "cheated" on Kaidan with Garrus. She moved on.
Dunno how Garrus would react to cheating though. Ingame he moves on with Tali without a word of explanation.

I take it back though. yes it is not cheated on KAiden and AShley basically shut you out when you needed them the most. Some can say you giv eup on them too easily, others say they moved on in 2 years... and they shoul dhave understood that for us it was a few weeks.

I guess  neither take it as hard given that they all moved on after our "death" so... duno if that makes it easier.

Which... makes me so freacking static when I met archangel,,, I was like GARRUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WAZ UP BROTHER.

Wanted to give him a nuggie duno why... then again I would probably get my skin burnt against his plates lol

I like the fact that Garrus takes rejection like a boss. It just shows how much he respects Shep. and isn't obsessed with her. He lives on. It's much more realistic than most relationships I'd say. I mean...who here has rejected a guy and did multiple face palms when he just didn't get it? I think a younger Kaidan would've been more susceptible to that kind of behavior (but good thing he's not though).

In fact, out of all romances rejecting Garrus and Jack seem like the worst. Jack crying is genuine but it's not like Thane crying (because somehow his son's being involved with the emotions is much less depressing with Jack, who has no one). Anyways...Garrus walking out with his head hung and the wine bottle (that he bought esp. for Shep) makes me feel like a dick.

So a combination of his loyalty mission and the fact that I feel like a real a-hole after rejection made me go, "OK, I'm a Garrusmancer now." Because rejecting a crazed lunatic or someone you can probably have a fling with doesn't feel as guilty or awful as kicking a puppy in the face (like if you dump Garrus).

I never even considered rejecting him because i honestly never felt attracted to anyone else in the game. Something about Garrus was just kind of... the best to me. Despite the fact that i feel a teensy bit dissapointed in his romance scenes, especially seeing what limit they'll go to with Liara.
but yes.
More garrus: (and pardon me if i don't know how to properly do this; i've not been a real part of the community for long, thus i have never posted in the forums before.)

I have to say, Liara was definitely the most fun to cheat on. Hearing her get all huffy about Garrus was too funny.

Really? I haven't done any of the 'cheating' since honestly I'm quite tired with love triangles. I know it's popular with a lot of girls but personally I think it's just an annoying hassle. That cow has been milked. Plus Shep is trying to unite a freaking galaxy! I don't think she needs the stress of that type of situation.

Shep sounds pretty exasperated in the conversation, yeah. It's only a few lines of dialogue though when you visit Liara's cabin, nothing too dramatic like in DA2.

Oh no, the return of Barrus!

Re: love triangles:  I don't think they really fit in ME3, at least not in the same way they were done in DA2.  Shepard's an adult and so are all of his/her LIs.  The galaxy is at stake.  They can put things like who slept with whom behind them and behave like professionals.

The one thing I wish the game had was a chance to call Kaidan out on his "you cheated on me" bullcrap.  ManShep gets to chew out Ash for it, but apparently girls don't get mad too when falsely accused? <_<

It's worse with Garrus if you do reject him, because YOU were the one to suggest the occasion in the first place. I could NEVER do that, you're meant to make those sorts of decisions like "do I really want to sleep with a turian" BEFORE you ask....the mere thought of turning him down depresses me...

And I never had any issues with Kaiden, he was dead after all.

Edit: That said I have 0 experience in the world of relationships, so maybe I'm just an idealist...

you have to put {img} and {/img} around the direct link to the image, except replaced the { } with [ ] :D

Edit: I knew there was a reason Garrus was ragging on me about not being able to dance...the guy has moves

Yeah? When?

Since I've never been able to do a full playthrough with M!Shep I went and YouTubed, and to be honest, it seems that both conversations are pretty awful. I'll agree with M!Shep that he was fine to move on but the way he handles it just makes me go "Ugh. Draaaaamaaaa." It's just stock "bad relationship history" dialogue, and quite frankly, M!Shep comes across as equally a*se-tastic as Ash (at least that how it feels to me).

Youtube - M!Shep and Ashley: Whatever Generates Your Mass Effect Field.

In a way I feel F!Shep got it better because she can at least see that Kaidan really is a tool regarding what went on between them - but she can just quietly confirm her suspicion, bypass the ugly stock photo drama, and move on the Good Stuff™. 'Sup Space Cricket? You lookin' fiiiiiiiiine today. She doesn't need to somehow push the idea that the decision to take up with Garrus was right because in the end, she gets to walk off into the sunset with the most boss hot water bottle in the galaxy, and Kaidan is left without a bedwarmer.

Edit: Hey hey hey. Tali gets all the good crew reactions to being in a relationship with Shep. No fair! =P

Tali + Shep: Crew Weigh-In.
