Since I've never been able to do a full playthrough with M!Shep I went and YouTubed, and to be honest, it seems that both conversations are pretty awful. I'll agree with M!Shep that he was fine to move on but the way he handles it just makes me go "Ugh. Draaaaamaaaa." It's just stock "bad relationship history" dialogue, and quite frankly, M!Shep comes across as equally a*se-tastic as Ash (at least that how it feels to me).

Call me childish--no, in fact, I know it's childish and immature.  But I'll take the opportunity to be mean to Ash; she ticked me off so much in ME3.  People lump the VS's reaction to Shep in one category, and having played with both Kaidan and Ash in ME3, that's not the case.  Kaidan feels reasonable (ninjamance excluded), and he becomes a supportive and caring member of the crew.  Ash seriously feels like Horizon 2.0 for almost the entire game...and gets smashed when she gets back on the ship <_<

Something funny and turian related I noticed a while back and was reminded of during my current NG+ playthrough. After doing Grissom Academy, when you go through the security checkpoint in the Normandy the two guards there are talking about the war on Palaven and one of them refers to them as "the birds." Makes me laugh. I wonder if that's common nomenclature throughout the Alliance.

The citadel scene was adorable, but honestly i cried at the end scene with Garrus. Especially the way that Shepard says "You'll never be alone" gets me every time. Especially after i beat the game, then i really wanted to cry about it.

Oh, I took every opportunity to be a **** to Ash on my Fem!Shep, and I never took her anywhere if I could help it. Her complete lack of development on the alien-hating front really wore me thin. I'm glad to hear Kaidan comes around - I'd hate to have to grind through Male!Ashley on my vanguard playthrough. I guess that's more within the bounds of his personality though. I suppose I was just hoping Ash would make some sort of progress regarding her resentment of aliens.

Back to the romance slant though, the conversations for F!Shep and M!Shep with a ME1 romanced VS were just so wishy-washy - it sometimes felt like Shep and the VS were having two different conversations with the way they reacted to each other's lines. I wish we could have had some sort of tense, but mutual understanding/resolution of the situation, or even a brutal shutdown of the VS, a kind of "We are done. Will this affect your ability to fulfil your duty, soldier?" You know, some (dare I say it), proper closure.

Totally, the thing I felt the most awful about with the ending was poor Garrus. He does not do well when I die... you know, like Omega.... =(

Indeed.
There are quite a few moving pieces of artwork on the subject.

Arguably Shep gets the opportunity to do this when s/he refuses to allow the VS back aboard the Normandy.  That character then becomes a war asset, and permanently out of Shep's life except a letter, I think.  Maybe we expect too much from Kaidan and Ash; those characters do go through a hell of a lot in ME3, and it's a very awkward situation if Shep romanced them in ME1, and someone else in ME2.

But I digress.  Garrus is the awesomest :D

I tried starting a new Shep and failed miserably. She's rotting away while I'm getting my main Shep through ME1 again. :P

I sooo tried to play a manShep, and made it through one mission before I just couldn't handle the voice anymore. I damn near tried going 0 volume on the voice and running subtitles only, but I missed hearing everyone else =(

Mark Meer does an amazing job in ME3 apparently, especially compared to ME1.

Still no where near as good as Hale.

And lol, never heard the bottom option to the opening of the citadel date.

*runs like hell*

I'm sorry, I admit she does a fine job, but I can't stand her voice personally.

Well, she's no Keener, but at least she sounds, well, normal and doesnt make everything sound like a statement. Even in personal situations, Manshep sounds like an automated response drone.

Example: ME2 when telling Anaya has a right to disobey. Hale just sounds so natural.

That's the thing, I don't think she sounds natural at all. She sounds like she's trying too hard every time she speaks.

But again, just my impressions.

One of these days I will put myself through a full playthrough of M!Shep. I feel like a bad fan for not having done so already.

Funnily enough I can't bring myself to follow through with Meer for the same reasons you don't like Hale, Karrie. I wonder where our brains split the difference?

Also, that thresher maw quote reads better in French. I like it :D

Meer is actually quite good in ME2 and ME3.  Though he's always hilarious when voicing Renegade jerkass Shepard's lines.  I am seriously playing a ManShep just to hear him say stuff like "big stupid jellyfish" :D

Yeah it's funny. Usually when the debate "who's the better voice actor" fires up (like, every week or so), that's usually the arguments that keep coming back. Too much emotion from Hale, not enough from Meer. Mind you, I don't really like Meer either, but I can stand him and his Renegade lines can be downright hilarious. I just like the French voices better. Objectively, the original version is better (especially for the NPCs) but I prefer the French voices of the main characters.

Haha thanks. What's the quote in English?

"When the Krogan name a Thresher Maw, you know you're in trouble." Very typical, understated Garrus. I guess the way it's expressed in French makes it more amusing when translated to English.

I wish I were a polyglot, just because it would be interesting to be able to play these games in a different language and pick out the difference in meaning, nuance and delivery. Also, listening to Mordin's "Scientist Salarian" in German is preeeeetty hardcore.

;)

Yep, funnier in French, I admit. He basically says "When the krogans name a thresher maw, you know you're screwed." (or, litterally: "you're in the ****". But that doesn't work in English... shame)

Oh God, Mordin's song in French is so terrible. XD The actor is usually good but that part was painful to hear. There are some big fails in the translation, but sometimes the differences are just too good. Like Jack's line regarding Garrus's romance.

I use ManShep to play renegade.

As strange as it might sound I just don't like playing FemShep in a full renegade playthough. She's so mean and I don't like it. :crying:

Also just watched Beauty and the beast last night. Reminded me of Garrus. The beast is so much better as a beast! I was wondering if anyone had ever put Garrus into a beast picture? He would look dashing in that blue dress coat!
