Since I've never been able to do a full playthrough with M!Shep I went and YouTubed, and to be honest, it seems that both conversations are pretty awful. I'll agree with M!Shep that he was fine to move on but the way he handles it just makes me go "Ugh. Draaaaamaaaa." It's just stock "bad relationship history" dialogue, and quite frankly, M!Shep comes across as equally a*se-tastic as Ash (at least that how it feels to me).
Call me childish--no, in fact, I know it's childish and immature. But I'll take the opportunity to be mean to Ash; she ticked me off so much in ME3. People lump the VS's reaction to Shep in one category, and having played with both Kaidan and Ash in ME3, that's not the case. Kaidan feels reasonable (ninjamance excluded), and he becomes a supportive and caring member of the crew. Ash seriously feels like Horizon 2.0 for almost the entire game...and gets smashed when she gets back on the ship <_<
Oh, I took every opportunity to be a **** to Ash on my Fem!Shep, and I never took her anywhere if I could help it. Her complete lack of development on the alien-hating front really wore me thin. I'm glad to hear Kaidan comes around - I'd hate to have to grind through Male!Ashley on my vanguard playthrough. I guess that's more within the bounds of his personality though. I suppose I was just hoping Ash would make some sort of progress regarding her resentment of aliens.
Back to the romance slant though, the conversations for F!Shep and M!Shep with a ME1 romanced VS were just so wishy-washy - it sometimes felt like Shep and the VS were having two different conversations with the way they reacted to each other's lines. I wish we could have had some sort of tense, but mutual understanding/resolution of the situation, or even a brutal shutdown of the VS, a kind of "We are
done. Will this affect your ability to fulfil your duty,
soldier?" You know, some (dare I say it), proper
closure.
