You must have loved Carth in KotOR.
...

Though to be entirely fair to Carth, there were a LOT of factors working against him. The biggest one wasn't the dead wife thing, it was the fact that I was about 16 when I played KOTOR for the first time. And Carth's 38. His in-game SON was older than me. I'm sorry, call me immature, but EWWWWWWWW.

Sorry for bringing this up again, but that is such an accurate description of my own reaction to KOTOR...
I liked Anomen, at least later on, but Carth - no way. Perhaps the German VA was an additional problem, but his speech after the temple before the final fight made my absolute-lightside glowing-blue Revan want to punch him. "I am proud of you", spoken like a teacher to a young pupil, after ignoring / doubting / hurting her during a time where she needed his support most? Eh, no.
Didn't play DA2, so I can't comment on Fenris, but Anders... probably a VA problem again. Very many people seem to like him, but I couldn't stand him in Awakening. And what I've read about DA2 didn't sound very promising, storywise.
Anyway, for all of BioWare's romances I have seen so far, with one single exception, there are these moments where I can't help thinking "stop being so damn stupid". With Garrus I can't recall them, or there are simply none. And his voice and design (no uncanny valley) certainly don't hurt, either.
Edit: Yes, I remember feeling surprised, too. Garrus was clearly not expecting Shepard's suggestion, but still said yes a second later. Taking his 'broken' appearance on Omega into consideration, I wondered if he had already realized that his feelings for her run a bit deeper than friendship. Then the idea (interspecies awkwardness...) itself would not have shocked him, just that it was
Shepard who brought it up.
