3DS Max posing the models is making me feel a bit better about ME3, though I'm going to watch it now with any BioWare games... sad as I used to be good/big BW fan... NWN, some Star Wars, Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age.....

I think I'm just going to follow the development process more closely in the future.  BioWare is big enough as a company where you can't exactly hold one dev team responsible for the products of another.  I know which writers, artists, and producers I like, and I'm more than happy to put faith in their work.  I'll be more careful with projects involving people who made games I found wanting.

Baldur's Gate, KoTOR, DA:O, ME, ME2. Hours of fun, no unavoidable heartbreak at the end, as long as the right decisions were made (not counting Viconia, obviously). Now, after ME3, I'll be more careful, too.

Well, flycam-fun is another way of coping. Always a trade-of, though - animating models takes longer, but is more powerful (full control, possible to create any scene). Taking screenshots and throwing them into GIMP or similar graphic-oriented freeware is fast and fun, but the results are low-quality at best. Optimal combination would probably be a Photoshop expert with modeling and animation skills - or someone with full access to both Unreal Engine and the whole package of ME meshes, textures and animations. Or simply a very talented artist with enough time and creativity... That baby turian with the SR-2 model ship above him was adorable.

Well, grim endings are the new trend now. And it kinda sucks. I like tragedies but with ME, I never saw it coming. I never pictured Shepard as a tragic hero. Quite the contrary actually. She came back from the dead.

I miss BG.

I agree. Still, I recall feeling a bit uneasy when Arrival was released. While I did not play it, I read about the forced batarian massacre to delay the Reaper invasion. Problem was not the diplomatic chaos or the in-game trial, but the stupid narrative law that states "Redemption through Destruction!!!". TES priest-emperor has a dark past? No problem, redeems himself through self-sacrifice. Salarian scientist with questionable research? No problem, redeems himself through self-sacrifice. Drell assassin? Same damn thing. Haven't figured out what Legion did to 'deserve' that fate, though - perhaps it has killed some creators during the Morning War, but usually the "reasons" for the "death by narrative law" sentence are stated on-screen. Perhaps with Legion it is more the semi-religious "innocent sacrifice to save the souls of many" type of end. Doesn't make it better, though.

Sure, there are other "narrative laws" (wise mentor usually dies to protect the hero, therefore I expected Anderson not to see the end), but I had hoped that Shepard would find a way around it. After all, Shepard basically does impossible things dayly.

Arrival bored me in terms of gameplay but I loved the story. The Reapers were right there, at their doorstep, the feeling of desperation was kinda cool.

"After all, Shepard basically does impossible things dayly."

Exactly. If there was something about Shepard I was certain about (silly me), it was that she could always overcome impossible odds and save the galaxy before shutting down communication channels to shut her stupid bosses up. Sure, you had to work for it (aka Suicide Mission for instance) but you could get a "perfect" ending if you were ready to commit.

Her suddenly becoming some kind of Space Messiah at the end of ME3 felt completely off, and awfully cliché (yep, twist endings are cliché, now. STOP WITH THE GRIMDARK ENDINGS!). And as a player I felt like I committed for nothing this time.

If I want terrible grimdark doomed endings, I'll read a book. Literature reached twisted and grimdark trend way before games ever did. Or you know, I could watch the news.

I play games for the feel of victory and the ability to distract myself from annoying real life crap.

Mass Effect franchise = A crescendo of EPIC.

Until the end when suddenly they yank the carpet from under your feet and pee in your cereal. Thanks for that. I am no longer entertained, I am now dissappointed and really damn confused and also angry because you led me on a path of awesome and explosions to an end that basically compares to a wet fart.

I... Really expected more.

It just felt *off*. Like the ending was taken from a completely different story and just thrown there.

And the Normandy scene (which I'm struggling to get out of my mind) convinced me for good that Bioware was forcing a grimdark ending at any cost. Death is much more merciful than eternal separation from *everyone you love* (or almost).

I just finished ME1 yet again, and it's a happy ending, and yeah, it's freaking epic nonetheless.

Oh, and random thought, Saren was the first Marauder! With Shields, to boot!

Speaking of good old Saren.. I kind of half expected him to show up somewhere in ME3. It was good that he got to rest in peace though, resurecting villains and heroes makes villanic and heroic deaths cheap. Shepard should have met Saren in one of those nightmares though. I can imagine that the fact that Shepard are becomming more like Saren would scare our protagonist.

I'm also glad they didn't rez Saren. That would just have been yet another cruel thing to do.

I sort of wish they had done something with his Reaper design though. The end battle one that is. I really liked that thing. The amount of running backwards I did during that fight is still ah so clear in my memory.

Not to say I don't like the Marauder design. I really like how they chatter. Sort of makes me wonder if Turians sound like that when they speak. Except you know, with less distortion and techno.

Saren cameo in ME3 - interesting thought. Actually, having him appear in one of the nightmare / wood-of-the-dead sequences would have had potential.

@Karrie788 and "Death is much more merciful than eternal separation from *everyone you love* (or almost)":
I am not sure if I would agree in real life, but in case of the ME3 ending - yeah. Still, choosing between "all die together" and "space-magic crash scene" is about as funny as "red, green, or blue".

And that is not funny at all.

Well I haven't experienced death and I haven't been separated from every single person that I care about, so I can't say. XD But I meant that regarding the game, of course, sorry if I was unclear.

The lack of choices in this ending was the main problem IMO. And a happy ending should have been an option.

Sorry for the confusion, your post was perfectly clear. I just felt uncomfortable typing "yes, yes, of course, death is better than separation" without any context.

About the happy ending... Yes. With Garrus. And Urz. And space hamster, in a larger cage. And perhaps a party on Rannoch. It happened, don't let this strange ending-related bug fool you ;)

And if you need visual evidence, just post Lexane's face code somewhere, I can provide proof.

Story related questions for all of you when it comes to Garrus romance.

When Garrus says he knows where you sleep after curing Genophage what does that mean for your Shepard?

When he says he knows there are other things your good at after you miss the shooting contest what does that mean for your Shepard?

What kind of vids is Garrus talking about getting roaylties from after Reaper war is all over?

That she's been holding him hostage in her room every night since he came back on the Normandy.

... why, that she's terrific at short range, of course.

Among other things.

Epic blockbusters.

And documentaries. Interviews. Etc.

Yeah. Suddenly Saren appears from nowhere and necklifts the struggling Shepard. "Is not obedience preferable to extinction?" He asks. "You are dead Saren. This is just my fear talking." Shepard replies defiantely. "Of course it is Shepard. You are becomming me." Saren replies before dropping Shepard to the ground and walking away.

a) That he stays the night every so often. <3

B) In the words of Grunt, he he he ;).

c) I imagine them selling rights to a big movie company where they make a ridiculously cheesy version of Shepard's adventures, where Garrus is portrayed as a lovestruck fool from day one who has a habit of pulling her into a Hollywood kiss at the most inconvenient times, and Shepard's played by an actress that looks absolutely nothing like her and swoons around Garrus a little too much, much to the dismay of real Shepard and Garrus =P

I actually really like this idea. On my first playthrough I didn't catch that synthesis was what Saren wanted to do, and something like this would have been a good callback to that.

1) That he keeps leaving random stuff in her room on accident after spending the night

2) Well, my Shep IS an Adept.  Mordin's vids about creative use of biotics and all that...

3) Everything from TV shows to documentaries to horrible, horrible romance movies based off their escapades.  Most of which my Shepard can't watch without cracking up.

1. Of course he knows where she sleeps - he spends every night there. Probably brings her breakfast, too.
2. As already mentioned above: He refers to her short-range skills. With weapons, I mean. What else could he possibly be talking about? ;)
3. The sequel(s) to 'Citadel'. Horrible acting and overdose of cheesy romance included, to the point where even pure-paragon Shepard seriously considers punching those responsible for the mess. Being a hero is not easy ^^

Edit: Top.
As stated before, the current ME3 ending is simply bugged. Shepard was saved,

the crew was saved,

the Commander recovered

and Shepard and Garrus lived happily ever after.
