So, I have a question for you guys. On my first playthrough, I eagerly romanced Garrus because he's charmingly quick-witted, and badass. So on my second playthrough, as soon as I get the chance to start the romance - I'm put off by what Garrus says. "Well, why the hell not? You're the person who I respect most the galaxy." Later he outright says he has no human fetish, so there's no physical attraction...I feel like we were  #%$@-buddies more than we were paramours. I think Garrus loves Shepard, but not in a romantic way.

In ME1 I romanced Kaidan, more by default than anything else. (He's a whiny little thing compared to Garrus) But at least it felt like Kaidan had real feelings for Shepard, as ridiculous as he acted on Horizon.

So I want to know your thoughts. Do you think Garrus love-loves Shepard? And is it worth it to holdout for Kaidan on Save2 and hope he's not such a p**** in ME3? (First choice is Joker, but like that's gonna happen)

And yes I KNOW IT'S JUST A VIDEO GAME. ,_,

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I see some mandible stripes there. That's probably the exact same model of turian light armor from ME1, judging by the texture resolution.

Perfectly valid question. So, I mentioned when I first joined this thread that I was writing a Garrus/Femshep relationship analysis. Basically answering that question. But I'll give you the rundown on what exactly it is I think about their relationship, without putting my entire analysis on here. There's gonna be a bit of text coming up, just so you know!
.
Obviously, they were close to start off with... their friendship was established in the first game. And why wouldn't they be? They'd been through hell and back again together, I find it hard to believe there wouldn't be a strong connection after the kind of stuff they had to do. So the foundation was there, definitely. As far as the beginning of the relationship, it definitely started out as a joke, what with the "reach and flexibility" thing. I think when FemShep brought up the idea of the two of them "blowing off steam," it threw him completely off guard. Judging by his reaction, he had no idea she was going to say that. So, he thought about it, and said, "Sure, why not?" Because really, what else can you say when you just got thrown that hard of a curveball? Imagine your best friend coming out and outright saying they wanted to sleep with you. You wouldn't really be able to be eloquent, I'm sure.

The thing I like about the Garrus/FemShep relationship is that it progresses like a normal relationship. It starts off small, then grows over time. In the beginning of the relationship, you can break it off with him no problem, and he talks about it in a casual way. By the end of the relationship, you can see how flustered he is, and if you happen to have a black heart and a soul of ice and break it off with him before the SM, his body language says it all.

In that final scene that brings the romance full circle, you can see just how far he's come from that "Sure, why not?" from that first conversation. It's painfully obvious how anxious he is over the whole situation. He is waiting for her when she gets out of the shower... WAITING. And when she comes out and sees him standing there, he immediately starts running around the room, trying to set the mood. He's thinking way too much, and trying way too hard, and that is NOT the way you act when you're just planning on fooling around with someone, regardless of friendship beforehand or not. And honestly, did you really think the last part of that scene indicated a quick "wham, bam, thank you ma'am?" roll in the hay? Because I definitely didn't.

So, does Garrus LOVE Shepard? I would say yes. Why? Ask anyone in the military how they feel about their squadmates. Relationships that are built on the fact that you HAVE to trust each other enough to put your lives in each other's hands make for an unbreakable bond. There's love there, always. As far as Garrus and Shepard go, I wouldn't say it's total, complete, "I want to marry you right now" love, but it's love to be sure, romantic and otherwise. Could it progress to "in love"? Definitely. The relationship is still young. There's plenty of time to learn to love each other in that way, too.

And screw Kaidan. Garrus ftw. :)
Sorry for the wall of text! I tend to ramble.

Hey I like both, and I'm really looking forward to what direction their relationship goes in if they have both romanced Shepard. That ME3 armour for Garrus is really growing on me, it suits him so well.

That crotch shot pic reminded me of something I thought of when doing another play through today...How does Garrus squat down like that without his leg spurs getting in the way? It must be a bit uncomfortable :S

The leg spurs are more on the side, also I think they are some what flexible, they would have to be.. it does seem like the spurs have gotten smaller with each game or maybe that's a trick of the armour changes (sort of like how his ME2 armour makes him look bulkier than he is). If you really watch Garrus during combat you can see how the animations compensate for this, he's still a really tall dude when he's crouching.

Haha trying to get him to stand still while ignoring the bullets flying past you so you can get a good view of his legs. Sounds like a plan! *high five*

*de-lurking*

I love whenever I stop by, there's something that makes me spit-take all over my computer monitor. Well, let me tell y'all something:

Garrus leg-splaying ftw.

Jealousy rocks too (kinda?). I can't wait to see what BioWare does for those Shepards who romanced Kaidan and Garrus. Should be an interesting scenario! But I mainly want to see how Shepard's and Garrus's relationship grows. It was obvious (at least to me) there was more than just a fling going on in the romance scene.

Now that I've said my peace...I'll just take a couple of these cookies here and be on my way. XD

Would be nice if there would grow some sort of a rivarly between them on the field, not just some different dialog options.

Perhaps it IS the techno turian? Okay, long shot, I admit it, but I realy want to see that turian with the smooth moves again.

No Kaidan here. I'd personally like to see what Ashley might have to say about a Shepard/Garrus relationship. [if anything.] I'd hope she might mention it though. She doesn't seem like the kind of person to keep her opinions to herself.

I'm also interested in what will happen if you romanced Liara in One and again in LOTSB while romancing Garrus in Two; or if you romanced Garrus in Two while flirting with Kelly and/or making a pass at Samara hahaha. And can't you bork Sha'ira quite late in One if you turn in the quest a little later, like pretty soon before the night with your Mass One LI before Ilos?

Haha some saves should definitely make for some interesting interactions.

There's no reason to get defensive. I never said I disliked Kaidan. I'm not a Kaidan basher, that last comment was thrown in for humor. I think Kaidan is a pretty cool character... I do prefer Garrus, however.

I'm sure many of you have seen it already, but I didn't see anyone posting it over here - one of the new screenshots from Pax has Garrus in it. Do his leg spurs look reduced to anyone?

Stupid Garrus always doing his stupid calibrations. I bet he calibrates during sleep and calibrates while simultaneously calibrating his knowledge in his mind in synchronization.

Well here's something for you Garrus. You're dead!

That's a very interesting observation. I find that I agree with you on this. Garrus is not attracted to Shepard. Hence, there is no romance. What is here is heartwarming, but it's not love in all its breathtaking glory.

I got a strong impression that the writer did that for fanservice, but never managed to break their disbelief about a human / turian romance, and that disbelief shines through. Garrus goes through the paces because he respects Shepard and Shepard asked him to, and there's practically nothing he wouldn't do for Shepard, but he doesn't know how to properly imitate that romance that Shepard's probably expecting. The result is...painfully awkward.

It's honest, though, all throughout. Garrus respects you; he is not attracted to you; bedding a human is about the same to him as bedding a rachni; he's still going to do it simply because Shepard asked; and he really hopes that he's not going to botch it, because Shepard is important to him. It's really nice of him, and not many people would do it for you, bedding the disgusting human, but it isn't love.

In my overly romantic opinion, true love transgresses the interspecies barriers. If you're interested in someone, you would, at the very least, want a simple physical touch. You'd want to spend time in that person's company. It's absent from Garrus' romance. There's no passion, there's no chemistry, there's no desire to be with Shepard, not even to converse with Shepard (in fact, Garrus uses that calibration excuse constantly to get rid of Shepard). Garrus and Shepard had more chemistry in ME1 than they did in ME2.

And I believe strongly that my Shepard deserves someone who actively wants her, not simply humors her. Same for Jacob romance.
