I find that at least on PC, you don't find all that many buttheads on MP. I play a lot of random Bronze because I enjoy it, and most of the time the people I play with are completely alright, if a bit clueless and death-happy.
This. Though I've started playing random Silver and Gold more regularly, and that tends to be more of a mixed bag. At higher difficulties, the awesome people are awesomer, and the jerks are bigger jerks.
EDIT: Also, if any of y'all have suggestions on how to play the MP turians well, I'll take them. I am apparently only good at squishy caster classes (Adept and Engineer).
Yeah i've found that the higher the difficulty the better the player, though the risk of having a worthless game is still there so i don't do it often. Hell in the "challenge" weekend gold runs i've always gone for a public gold match. Turns out randoms are better than my friends at the credit hoarding technique.
For Soldier i don't use him on anything other than Bronze. Silver depending on whether i've got a decent team with me to pick up the slack of having no powers whatsoever. The Sentinel is a good character to have for gold runs (and works well in his own right on bronze/silver) and easily compliments a tech or biotic set up for numerous tech bursts and biotic explosions.
For the Soldier i go with the Phaeston with the Mark V barrel upgrade and AP weapon bonus. This i've found is amazingly amazing combined especially with adrenaline burst. I focus more on the proxy mines than the concussive rounds though, as they're usful for stripping shields in lieu of the lack of tech powers. Definately go for radius on that first, then go power. Makes it easier to set traps. Also go for the headshot and stability bonuses to remove even more of the already minimal recoil.
Sentinel is a bit of a doozy, since not everyone has the N7 Eagle, so i recommend your favorite lightweight pistol if you don't have it. I take the point out of the tech armour (with a reset powers token) to assist in power recharge, and by level 20 i have all the other bars filled out. Since i use him in a range of gametypes, i went with extra damage to armour with the Warp ability over more power in the biotic explosions. Also with Overload go for the pwoer that allows it to "hit" another enemy, gives someone with energy drain more targets to set up a tech burst. As with the soldier, go with the stability bonus and headshot bonus.
Hope it helps, though the Soldier takes more work to actually do well with, Sentinel is easier to rack up points.

Probably because i was still awed by the novelty of having an all Turian team, doesn't happen often, and i still managed to beat the next best guy by around 20k points or so, so it wasn't a total waste. Didn't quit because thats probably what they wanted, though i was a bit miffed that they didn't respond after i sent a message asking what exactly was going on, in a lighthearted manner of course.
I'll chuck a pic of the post-game scoreboard soonish for lulz, and then you can laff at them too.
Did you get chucked into the match randomly from the 'search for game' option or something? Or did they just feel like you were owning them too badly? I mean, if they didn't kick you in the lobby before the game and then suddenly hated yoy, something fishy must have been going on on their side.
It was a random game, but I actually think they were in a party and just wanted another friend to come in, which i can understand, i've done that a lot too. Though it wouldn't surprise me if they
were butthurt over being out played, even though for a couple of rounds i only got, what, 2 kills or so.

And this is why I hate playing MP with strangers. =p

Sounds similar to my xbox experience. Most of the time you get alright teammates, but thats just multiplayer in general. Its good 90% of the time.
I also make a point of not reviving any vanguard who charges brutes, banshees, atlas' and all the other enemies that scream "DO NOT BIO CHARGE".....and Krogan who insist on headbutting everything to death....
edit: stupid BW forums and their funky formatting bug...
