New episode of Sound the Clarion today! YEEEEY!

My absolute FAV Garrus Fanfic.

Agreed, it's one of my favourites right now too. That, Medicinal Violence and High class Hostage.

Sound the Clarion is written amazingly well, probably because she has something of an inside source regarding how the military works and it all shines through amazingly in her writing. Not only that, the story's gripping. I can't read AU's normally, but she keeps the characters in character, and the way she's changed the universe but kept it the same in regards to story and timeline is wondeful. I kinda cringed at the smut, though really well written I'm not a fond puppy of sex scenes in fanfics. But I think it was neccassery for this one.

I wonder how long it's gonna go on for; like will it finish at the end of the First Contact War, or will it continue and go through the games we know and feature the Reapers? I hope the latter but either way it's thrilling so far!

Just finished the update. And wish for the next ten chapters to be there - or twenty.
Holy hell. That's a goodbye at the end.

This is actually the very first fanfiction that made me honestly consider to register on fanfiction.net, just to comment on the last chapter. Turned out, luckily, that quite a lot of people shared my opinion, namely that Shepard and Garrus just sleeping would have been more fitting. For once, it's not the usual "arrgh, where's my blanket, I want to hide", but the scene felt rushed to me, out of place somehow, and that's a pity. Otherwise, it would have been a wonderful chapter.

Otherwise, I completely agree. The story is great, one of the best I've ever read. AUs, if good, don't bother me, the cultural details the author comes up with are amazing, the military parts as well, and the writing itself - well, it doesn't surprise me that the author claims to work at a "real" book as well.

Edit: And when the ending of that fic, whenever it may come, is not a happy one, I'll really need to register to complain about the need to buy yet another ton of tissues ;)

tl;dr:
Honest recommendation: Go read that fanfiction.
Convinced: You won't regret it.

I've already got an account, but I almost always hold off reviews until the fic has finished. The only time I review before is if the author needs some encouragement and hasn't recieved too many reviews at the time. But the author seems to have enough motivation to keep writing so I'll hold off mine for now.

If the ending is a sad one, I'll weep -  I think. I've had far too many sad endings to do with the Mass Effect universes to last me.

More sad endings in the ME universe, not only ME3? If it's fanfiction you are talking about, I usually do my best to avoid those. Same with 'High class Hostage' - depressing setting and Liara's role made me skip it faster than I can say 'calibrations' ;)

An interesting story found at livejournal:
Galaxy's Unlikeliest Hero - AU setting, Ash in Shepard's role, Shepard a former hooker from Omega and Garrus' lover, ME2 story.
No joke.
Didn't read its prequel, though, but 'Galaxy's Unlikeliest Hero' is funny, the characters are well written and Story-Shepard and Ash sharing Game-Shepard's role makes for interesting scenarios.

Edit: Just realized that the first chapter of that story is full-scale M. Funny as hell, but content-wise not fully representative for the rest. It is an actual story, with interesting twists, not just creative bedroom scenes connected by more bedroom scenes.

Well I only started reading Mass Effect fanfics when we got the ME3 ending, and I never go back further than 2 pages so I've probably never seen the happy fics, but since I've started reading ME fics there's an awful lot of grim ones, and the ones that aren't grim seem to be unexplanably happy that I just can't see it happening.

I turned onto High class Hostage because of the setting and what Liara's role has become, largely because that's how I see the synthesis ending ... Well... Really all endings, but Synthesis just adds too much unknown for me and that fic is the closest I can find that matches what my own impressions were. I don't like Liara at all, and in my headcanon she was deeply in love with Shepard (like she is in many people's) and I do believe that's what she did when she gives you that "gift", I am unable to accept her gift in future playthroughs because of it. I don't know why I turned on to that fic so fast when I'm sick of unhappy endings. Maybe because it's started off unhappy so there's only one place for it to go~

I'll report back later when I've read Galaxy's Unlikeliest Hero, thanks for the link~

Looks like the Play Arts Kai figures are up on the Bioware store with an asking price of $65 and a release date of December 2012. I'm trying to checkout with it, but the store seems to be having technical issues.

ETA: Also on Things from Another World for $52 and a release date of November 28, 2012. And the website works.

Eh, ususally i'm  okay with AU's, but that premise is....yeah, i'll pass thanks. Just can't imagine Shep being a former hooker, i just can't.

edit: I'm curious, someone with the GT: Pro Garrus fan doesn't happen to be someone from here would it?

I quite liked reading the prequel Galaxy's Unlikeliest Hero.

I have a hard time reading AUs that aren't connected to the story of the games in some way. Like the AU that was discussed a few posts up - I can't read that. It just doesn't work.

Actually scratch that I have a hard time reading AUs at all. Most often they read as the personal fantasy of the author, and are full of OOC moments not to mention overhauls of canon species facts and you name it. As a fan of Mass Effect, the characters and the species, I prefer them as they are. Not as some fan re-wrote them to suit their taste.

That being said... Even though FemShep is a hooker in that fic - though a damn tough one at that - the author still wrote the fic to follow the story of the games. So it felt like reading another version of the games. And FemShep is still badass, has a 'I don't give a damn' attitude and kicks ass.

I have the same problem. It's okay with one shots (Enemies Like You And Me anyone? =P though the sequels did eventually tie in to the story). I absolutely love AUs where a few things are changed, the main plot stays the same, or things happen before or after the main ME storyline, but if it doesn't come back I start feeling a little wistful. I do admire writers who take on completely AU stories though; they require a lot of creativity and style, for sure!

Understandable. And that Shepard as a former hooker is a potential reason to skip a fiction - also agreed :)
I just gave it a try since I usually like AU settings and wasn't disappointed. The prequel, though - didn't try that since these circumstances were out of my comfort zone.

Most often I have immersion problems with non-AU stories where Shepard faces the same canon events as my own characters, but reacts so differently on some occasions that I can't identify. With AUs it's like another 'excuse' is given for Shepard being another character. Good examples are the mentioned "Sound the Clarion", "Galaxy's Unlikeliest Hero", "Sister Complex" or "Life Always Finds a Way". And "Enemies Like You and Me" plus sequels, too. All Shepards differ from my own, some more, some less, but since the circumstances are different, it doesn't break immersion for me.

But that's the great thing about the large amount of fanfiction out there - no matter one's personal taste, it's nearly guaranteed to find some enjoyable stories.

I prefer fics about the games by far. I get to read about the crew and universe as I've learned to love them - what's there not to like.

Thought I must say that I don't read any fic that follows the ending of the third game to a tee. That's just so bad that it doesn't deserve to be re-written. Only re-made completely.

And I still want to start my playthrough over again from the very first game and write an enormous fic based on all the three games. Sigh.

Thanks for sharing. I didn't recognize all quotes, though - are some of them "breaking up" quotes (don't know these), or have you taken some FemShep quotes from other romances?
Or perhaps my brain is just too tired to recall correctly ;)

Yep, they're from the break up scenes.

Oh, and the video made me cry. :P Nice job! Oh and GORGEOUS FemShep! Do you have her facecode?

Wow all those amazing looking pics!
@Lethania: Who's the artist of those three pics?

Also, is there any new news about the EC DLC? Haven't really been so active here so I might have missed something.

Not yet. They aren't going to be saying anything about it at E3, according to Chris Priestly, so it's still just fan speculation for now.

Am I the only one who hates the word "speculaition" since ME3?
It used to be an exciting word for brimming theories and thoughts, now it's hateful and disappointing.

For me anyway, I'm a dramatic person C:
