Yes, quite true and also you must allow a lot of artistic freedom. But the turians should look like turians you know. A bit of derpiness can be tolerated both in comics and game. In fact the only ones who are never derpy are quarians and geth.

*snip*

Never said they shouldn't. ;) If "artistic freedom" gives us the turians and that strange "Tali" as seen previously, then I don't want it.

Lol'd at the last picture.

Ugh. I cringe every time I see any of the Mass Effect comics.

I studied cartooning for two years, and I graduated as a cartoonist.

A few things you should know about comic artists, and comics in general:

a) The artists in big companies like Marvel and Dark Horse and etc are so called 'factory line' artists. They don't write plot themselves, they only draw based on what has been given them in written form.

B) These artists are also very seldom invested in the things they are paid to draw. It is like drawing a commission of someone elses character: you get paid but you don't have a connection to said character.

c) These artists also very rarely study their subject religiously. They will look up a reference, and then generalize the design - or make design choices based on their own imagination which most often doesn't know sh*t about the subject or the species.

So this is why all comic turians look like either wild beasts or a mix between a horse and a spiky lizard. The artist has basically no limits on how they draw, as long as there is someform of design link. They can mold the characters and species as they wish, and barely have any connection to said species so they don't care if they end up looking like the rear end of a constipated elephant.

This is also why the turian woman in that one comic should NEVER be considered canon. It is not a design made by Bioware, but a design made by the artist.

This made me so sad, but now it all makes sense.

Also kind of related-ish to the Deception novel.  It was clear that the author wasn't very vested in or knowledgable about the ME universe and the result was an absolute ****e story.  Why do they pick these companies/people if what they produce ultimately reflects poorly on BW? Is it really all about the money? :crying:

Most likely they make a contract with a company like Dark Horse, so they don't have to hire and pay an individual to do the work. It is cheaper, and seeing as the comics aren't the big sellers in ME marketing, the cheaper they are made the better.

I really have no idea what the hell is up with Deception though, seeing as Bioware has a bunch of honest to god WRITERS working on the series. Idk. Maybe paying one of those guys to write a novel that in the end won't sell all that much just was too expensive for EA so they hired some random dude to do it instead.

me thinking, has anyone else had an experience where someone completely
virgin to the Mass Effect series saw Garrus and wondered what he was?
lol

Edit: Here, have a adorable pocket Garrus!

Garrus thread, I finally got my game registered to post here again! :D (Very long story. I had to use a public gaming place to create an Xbox Live account so BSN would acknowledge my game. And now I'm so surprised that it actually worked, I can hardly think of anything to say, except... I missed this thread!)

So, I just noticed something while playing today and I'm curious if anyone else did too. You know the final conversation with Garrus, the one where Shep can Paragon interrupt kiss him? Well, I had Shepard talk to Primarch Victus right after that, and when she said she didn't know he was there in that surprised voice, it sounded to me like Shep was all shocked that she was just making out with her boyfriend in front of the Primarch. xD Hilarious.

Welcome back!

And I didn't even think of that, haha. Oh Shep, breaking fraternization rules and then flaunting it in front of the Primarch? *shakes head*

Thanks! :) And yeah, it was really amusing when I noticed that about the Primarch during a replay. Now I'll make sure that every time I play out that scene with a Garrusmance Shep, I'll always talk to him before Victus. xD

Cool picture. Garrus' striped suit looks good on him, and Mordin's outfit is just perfect. All of it. And that hat!

You have a point, that's really an interesting interpretation :D

Glad I've given the Garrus thread something to think about.

That was such a great scene. I'm still thinking about Garrus and Shep with little adopted krogan. :D And the kids' "cousin", Urdnot Mordin. What a fun family they'll have!

From now on this is my hedcannon in the case of a dead Shepard. Now it's time for a new hero of the galaxy: Commander Garrus.

I always liked to think that there is a lot of potential commanders in the galaxy. It was just coincidence that made Shepard the hero of the story. I think people like Garrus and Kaidan would have done a just as good job being the commander instead of Shepard.

I personally would give it back to the Alliance, it's their ship and their crew and I'd rather not have my name tarnished by dereliction of duty.

While you certainly have a point, I got a different impression from the games. Like Miranda said - Shepard has this 'fire' in him / her, a certain force of personality that makes the Commander not only a natural leader, but irreplaceable in the context of the whole story. There are characters who grow and mature immensely over the three games, Garrus and Kaidan among them, and there are some fanfictions out there that play with the idea of having somebody else in Shepard's shoes. I can see Garrus or Kaidan (or Ashley, Tali etc) as successful commanders / captains, no question there, especially after ME3. But hotheaded ME1 Garrus or Alliance-following ME1 Kaidan, faced with the hunt for Saren or later on, with unifying ME2's crazy 12, or doing all the other impossible things Shepard achieves on a dayly basis... The more experienced ME3 versions of Garrus / Kaidan / etc maybe, but I still can't really imagine it.

I agree with Seleya. Garrus is awesome, his skills improved a lot throughout the series and so did other characters, but the way I see it, Shepard's the only one who could have done this.

Treehouse has put up pics of some of the in-progress ME merchandise they're coming out with. If the designs seem familiar, apparently the lady who made the originals on deviant art, also made the prototypes for these.

Those plushies are adorable! I'll have to make them a special home on my stuffed-cute-things shelf.

The leather jacket seems kind of... odd though. Doesn't really look like the one we see in game, design-wise. Here's to hoping they change that!

Yeah, the red seems to bright and the colour is off. The in-game jacket has a bit of a Peacekeeper colour scheme

Yeah, me too :)
Though Garrus looks a bit... well, I suppose 'adorable', but with a hint of 'strange', even for a puppet.

Any word on a little plushy Reaper, Space Hamster or Legion? ;)

Okay, you have all convinced me. Maybe I am a just a bit reluctant to to see Shepard as the Mary Sue/Gary Stu superhero she/he actualy are.

Hopefully next Mass Effect game let's us make a hero of the alien race of our choice in a DAO style of origin story. It seems like those Vakarians are generaly tough guys so perhaps a future Vakarian will star as the protagonist in the turian origin story.

Edit: Yet again TotP gets me... Have another turian baby:
