I'm probably the only one who's happy there's no explicit reunion scene.

I'm actually with you on this one. I don't like to read/watch/play something where every single subplot has to be meticulously resolved. While one of the main problems with the original ending was that too much was left open, I think EC is a good amount. With the relays being repairable, Shepard alive, and the Normandy space-worthy, a reunion is all but guaranteed. Seeing it animated would have been clunky and overkill. It would never be able to match what we create in our heads. If some things are left to our imagination, it makes the story more individual, or what Roland Barthes would call "writerly."

I don't want the reunion scene written out, either.

By the way, is it true that the Normandy has gotten a new 'look' for the Jungle-Of-Disappointment-And-Confusion planet, lacking the explosion marks the ship formerly had?
And when was the name of this thread changed? I like it, but at first I thought I had somehow ended up in the wrong place.

I must say, Jennifer Hale's emotions in her voice was spot-on at the Normandy pick-up scene. Garrus' final line to her was perfect too.

Best voice acting scene in the whole ME3! In the whole ME series even. It felt so real. I completely melted :crying:
The way Garrus says "You've got to be kidding me" and the look he gave her...just wow! It's so powerfull and thick with emotion that for me it kinda overshadows the magical three words we've been waiting to hear from him in all 3 games.
Don't get me wrong, I was squeeing like an idiot when he said "I love you" but his protest against being left behind just did it for me.
Oh, Garrus how am I supposed to romance any other character in any other game....ever?! :pinched:

Sorry for popping in like this, but I have just played the EC with my first Shepard, and I have to agree on this. I was nearly in tears. I actually cried at the end when Garrus puts Shepards name on the memorial wall (my EMS was not nearly high enough for the Shepard lives ending, so even though I chose destroy, Shep's dead). It was more that I felt so bad for poor Garrus being left behind, being alone than that I was sad that Shepard died. :(

Does anyone else remember the epilogues in Baldur's Gate 2, after Throne of Bhaal?  I like that sort of ending; open-ended enough to leave plenty to the imagination, structured enough to feel like a satisfying conclusion.

Would you guys say that Shepard and Garrus skipped the honeymoon phase? Also it seems agreed upon that Garrus isn't the jealous type but would you say your Shepard's are? I try to imagine mine is but just can't quite see it. They just seemed so bonded with each other to actually get jealous.

My shepard is already plotting murderous schemes against Dr. Michel... involving cyanide and chocolate truffles.

Honeymoon phase? Hmm, I think so. I get a pretty strong "friends before lovers" vibe from them, plus they're in the middle of a war, so it makes sense to me that the skipped right to the comfortable familiarity of a relationship after the horrible interspecies awkwardness.

Is my Shepard jealous? No. Am I? Yes :P. Shepard doesn't mind when Garrus uses his sexy voice on Tali, but I definitely fume lol. It's hard for me to imagine her getting jealous, because like you said, they have a bond that goes beyond petty occurences. I'm sure they argue a lot though, especially my Paragon Femshep; both are too hotheaded for a butterflies and rainbows relationship

My thoughts exactly. Shepard is just way too secure to be threatened by lesser rivals. Me, on the other hand... xD

They definitely skipped the awkward 'beginning of relationship' stage. They know each other so well by this point that they're just comfortable being with each other, which is the big draw for me. They have so much chemistry and such a strong bond but it doesn't feel forced. They don't have that awkward feeling you get from single-game romances where they're saying all these romantic, flowery things but you're thinking, "Wow, you're awfully serious about someone you just met."

It's an epic romance to be sure, but it's also a very natural-feeling one.

I think that Shep and Garrus have been through so much together that there is literally no other person in the galaxy to whom they could relate to more. They've been side by side for so long, shared so many of the same experiences and understand and respect each other so much that jealousy just wouldn't fit naturally into their relationship. They're simply that confident in their bond by now. Personally, if I were still getting jealous and not trusting my other in a perfectly mundane social situation in a Shep/Garrus-esque relationship, I would be telling myself to get over it. If the person hitting on my other were overstepping their bounds, I would trust my other to handle the situation and set the record straight. If that didn't work, I'd offer back-up.

As for the honeymoon phase, I agree with flipped about the "friends before lovers" thing. To me their eventual relationship was less a:
"Omg! Garrus! I like you."
"Omg! Shepard! I like you too."
"Great! We'll bang, okay?" *lots of kittens and rainbows*,
and more a:
"We should have seen that coming a mile off. Or at least, I should have."
"Yeah. I know right?" *totally intentional sniper dig that has Garrus' mandibles flaring in a sh**-eating grin*
"Well Shepard. Shall we get on with it?"
"Carry on, Vakarian." *stolen headbump before Shep's visor goes down and they grab their weapons and deploy from the Kodiak*

Yes. I'm a dork. Shut up =P

P.S. Lilihierax (the mechanic on Noveria) is so cute. When you're asking him about quest stuff, his mandibles stay flat. But when you ask him personal questions they flare so wide it's like he's preening. I really wish there were more mandible animations incorporated into turian dialogue scenes across the games.

Here you go! (Oops nevermind that's the one where Shep lives! One sec...)

ETA: Well here's the control version of that scene. You can play both videos, turn the volume off on this one, and just use the other video for Hackett's narration, lol.

When I first played through the EC, I had Kaidan and Garrus with me....And I didn't see the beam scene coming.

I freaked out a bit. I don't have multiplayer and I never checked my war assets before I left. I thought they were dead.

Even if it was my Bro!Shep, just the dialogue was perfect. Brother in Arms; Brothers till the end.

I have so many feels right now :(

As for jealousy, neither me nor my Shep get particularly jealous.  I found the Tali and Dr. Michel stuff to be adorable and kind of hilarious.  My Shepard tends to suffer less from jealousy and more from the same sort of relationship insecurity that Garrus exhibits early in the romance.  She's led such a violent and demanding life that she's convinced she's going to screw something up.

My Shepard just get amused when Dr Michel hits on him and since she's romancing Garrus his and Tali's relationship just come off as more along the lines of siblings.

I just finished another game and God, Anderson's "You did good Child" speech makes me tear up every time. Why oh why did he have to die? ;~;

Baldur's Gate is my personal reference for RPGs, so yeah, that's about what I wanted for ME ;)

Though I had some problems with Aerie's ending, when romanced. I like my rainbows with some extra-fluffy bunnies, that's true, but a wedding above the clouds (okay, fine for a formerly winged elf) with avatars of at least two gods watching - that was slightly too much. I liked the way Minsc, Imoen or Jaheira were handled, though, and Anomen... well, liked that one, too.

I suppose the reason that I'd like to see a reunion (and not necessarily more, so no 'forced future') is that sour taste I still get from the ending - last scenes with Shep / Garrus completely sad, last scene with Garrus sad, too, and the last scene with Shepard (when she lives) I just don't like, either, too dark, gloomy, visually not appealing etc. So I'd have liked a short reunion embrace or something like that.

You thought Anderson's in-game speech was emotional? Listen to this. It was posted in a thread earlier today and goshdarnit I swear Bioware's responsible for this new-found maternal instinct I have.
