Btw, I know we've talked about it a lot of pages back, but I like to hear you guys' thoughts (plus I'm in a rainbow and puppies kind of mood): when did your Shep realize she was in love with Garrus?

After Menae, but it was a slow process. The feelings started after the suicide mission and culminated after seeing him again after so long.

And I had no idea that the "you're real, a little crazy, but real" line was a romance one! That rivals the "find any action" discussion for my favourite piece of dialogue.

@Seleya, those slides are wonderful! How did you make them, out of curiosity? The last one especially is so lovely =)

When was the "Find any action" line used?

@Mugen it's aboard the geth dreadnought if you bring Garrus. After you go through the pipe and open the airlock, him and Tali will walk in and he'll say, "Find any action?" To which Shepard replies in a rather flirty tone, "No, but maybe you can help me find some."
You know what, a link would probably be better. Silly me. Here's the video =D

She actually thought he was cute and funny in ME1 but never even thought about flirting or the possibility of a relationship until she got to know him and his sense of duty, resolve, and wit through conversing throughout the game. It wasn't until ME2, after she saw how he believed in her enough to follow her into Cerberus despite how they both knew how awful it was, that she began to truly love him romantically. But she saw that he was still hurt and conflicted after Sidonis' betrayal so even though she wanted to comfort him so much, she gave him the space he needed. (She realized that what he needed then was support, not a date.) So it wasn't until after the Sidonis situation was resolved and it was clear that Garrus would be alright that she tried starting a relationship with him. And we all know how that ended.

I wasn't sure this was a romance line! I thought Chemin sounded pretty flirty but I didn't think it was romance specific. Nice catch. XD

Thanks for pointing out some of those romance-specific lines! Since my regular playthrough is Garrus-centric, I tend to take these for granted. Knowing that they are 'special' somehow makes me appreciate them even more

Thank you. I'm usually afraid (and rightfully so) to bore this thread to death by posting too many screenshots.
Regarding the "how to": Screenshots with ME3 flycam (the last is based on the Citadel date, background is the rebuilt London in the Destroy version), put together with GIMP, though any graphics tool will do.

So what are the non romance lines to "Find any action?" and "You're real. A little crazy but real."

In love maybe after the suicide mission, but she rhad a "thing" for him in mE1 but never considered doing anything... then realized she had a crush when she noticed how much she missed him in the beginning of ME2, and finding him on Omega and talking to him again made her think "ok I'm in trouble"

I think the romance is near perfect too but I have problems with the dialogue implementation of ME3, over at HTL and the romance DLC survey I talked about it. Like I think Shep should have known about his family, and like I tried to make him talk but half the time he (and everyone else) was like "not now" and then he says "you seemed to have some doubts about us" or something... thats not true dude, you just wouldn't talk to me :P it annoyed me, but it's ok

Don't know the line in English for the Cerberus base. But he basically says something along the lines of "It's ok if you feel confused about all this."

Boo no fun!

Seriously, what was up with this mission? Do geth dreadnaughts just make everyone randy? There was so much flirting and/or catfighting going on....Ah we got so spoiled with all the neat little things they threw our way. Makes me feel really sad for all the people who chose ME2-only squaddies as their LI's :crying:

I never caught that was a romance line, hehe.

My guess is Shepard/Garrus/Tali are so used to killing geth at that point that they need to do something to be entertained!

That's actually quite possible :D
I like these 'in-mission banters', especially romance-specific ones, and would have liked to see even more of them. Still, ME3 may have its flaws, but romance-wise (at least for Garrus) there's quite a lot of good content.

Welcome to the thread!

Thanks Karrie788!

Hmmm, good question.

I think when you get his mission in the beginning of ME2, Shep begins to realize Garrus means a bit more to her then her other friends and crewmates. Not saying she was "in love", but thinking he was shot only to grasp and open his eyes made her think, about what would she do if she lost him and she didn't want him not to be with her in this. Once back on the Normandy, he is concerned about Cerberus, not for himself, not for anyone else, but for her and what could happen to her. Then on Horizon when she finally met up with Kaidan again (and in my case, romanced him) and he treats her horrid, Garrus jumps to her defense and she thought," wow the man who is suppose to love me won't trust me, but the one who doesn't will" made her begin to realize that love has nothing to do about race and such, its about loyalty, devotion and sticking up for her when no one else will and it hits her, thats Garrus and certainly not Kaidan. Then finally, when you do his loyalty mission (paragon) and you completely trash all his plans and something he has wanted for a long long time, he agrees with her choice and never blew up at her (something I so could see Kaidan do to her if it was him, no matter how much he would claim to love her), she realized, this is the man I need and the man I know will never turn on me. Once she realized it, she knew she had done something she thought wouldn't ever be, she was in love with him. Also, the reason I think she offered the stress release idea, was because she wanted to know if he would even consider being with her and hoping he might love her too. She certainly didn't want to loose him as her friend and thought if he knew she loved him but didn't return it, he may walk, but if she offered sex and he said no, she could of said something like just teasing and at least not lost him completely. But if he agreed, she knew then he at least felt something more then just crewmate, especially given the fact she was a different race.

Also, in ME 3, I think one of the most touching moments was when they first meet up again on his moon and with all the other Turians around them, he grabs her hands acknowledging she was special to him and not just as her friend, because he doesn't do so with Liara, whom he has known just as long. With the bitter past between human and turian, to have such a public show of affection in front of all of them was just awesome. Nothing is better then the guy who is willing to say "she's mine" in public, knowing all of them could hate him for it and he still does <3

Wow. I never thought of it like that, now you mension it - that scene just got more awesome.

...By the way, does anyone know if a 'flycam' thingy has been done of goodbye scene when Garrus mensions kids? I would love to see that kiss from a different angle :P

In fic?  Meghan still hasn't figured it out.

In game?  It sneaks up on her.  And that's all I'm going to say.

So I'll probably get flamed for this, but I've been wondering. How does Garrus kiss anyone? Like, he doesn't have lips, he has those bone ridge things. Howver, he's a potential LI and hooks up with Tali if neither of them are romanced (and that just raises more kissing questions, but I digress). So yeah, I'm not trying to insult Brokarian cuz he's awesome, I'm just curious how the kissing works...

He's most likely more on the receiving end of things. Plus uh, I don't think he'd have a problem with more intimate forms of kissing.

According to my Shepard, the answer to "How does Garrus kiss" is "Rather well" ;)

Quite a lot of writers have tried to answer that question. Personally I tend to headcanon it like Where Angels Fear To Tread, second chapter, right at the beginning. Great story, one of the best I know, more sweet than explicite. Sadly it's sequel wasnt continued about two years ago, though that story had a slight change in mood and characterization I didn't like too much at the end.

The London goodbye: Don't know if there's a flycam vid somewhere on the internet. I haven't kept any flycam-screenshots of that scene though, had just a few and they weren't really good. Plus, the lighting (yes, again...) there is not that nice, either. Fitting, but not nice. Too much gloom and doom, both in mood and in the rendering.

Well with those smoochy sounds on the Citadel, I'm pretty sure (somehow) Garrus isn't only on the receiving end . If you pay attention to turians when they talk, their...uh...would-be lips (?) have surprising mobility. Makes sense if you don't think about it too hard. But that's no fun.

Yeah, it's not a beak.  There is some flexiblity there.  Obviously, it'll be different than a human, or an asari, or even a drell (or apparently, a quarian), but he's also the least humanoid LI.

I've compiled a playlist of the Garrus romance in ME3 now. Other non-romance related vids can still be found on my channel as well.

I'm hoping that there'll be nods to romance in future DLCs. That goodbye scene in EC nearly killed me.

Edit: Crap, top. Long time no see guys btw <3
