Welcome!

Don't worry, we've got plenty of space here. Similar to Hilbert's Hotel, we've got Hilbert's buffet and Hilbert's couch... And cake. And beer. And cocoa or milk if you don't drink ;)

About Kaidan: I think he's okay in ME and ME3, but I can't stand his 'romance' in ME2. After I played through the first romanced-Kaidan-Horizon, I noticed a sharp increase in Ash's virtual life expectancy for a while...
And what I didn't really get in my ME3-only-Kaidan romance was his comfort dialogue at Chronos Station. With Garrus it feels natural, his "and I was there with you" speaks volumes. But Kaidan mistrusted Shepard for so long... I somehow got the impression that he was either not honest or his mind clouded by hormons during that dialogue, and both options are not really flattering.

Interesting, so he doesn't tell ME3 only Shepard the same thing he tells the continuing romance?

I used to exclusively romance Kaidan because I just love him sooooo much.   But after picking one character (my sentinel) to move on with Garrus I've been nuts for him too!

He is so sweet and awkward in ME2 and so lovey in ME3

So have a pic I shared in the Kaidan thread:

Yep.  That's why the ME3 leg of Loved will be so VERY hard to write.

Okay, I don't normally read fan fictions.  But, Sialater, I just bookmarked your Loved story.  It is awesome.  You and Graceyn are the only two I've read so far.

So many new faces! If you're a lurker reading this now, do you really wanna miss the party? You're not gonna find a nicer place on the forums ^3^

Is there a ME1 soundboard? Man he had some great lines that really showcased dat voice, like when he's telling the story of the Elcor serial killer...brrr...OH and it makes me sad but how 'bout when he shouts "Shepard's been hit!" when you die. Man I love that!! *fangirling*

I'm DEVASTATED that they got rid of battle banter. In one of the early trailers, they totally misled everyone and even got me thinking that Shepard would join in. I was so pissed, I can't even....Seriously, I don't know what was more awesome, Garrus complimenting me when I got a headshot or when he complimented himself.

Please don't ask me to recall the exact wording, I'd have to play through Chronos again to answer ;)

The thing is, I doubt that there are two different versions of the dialogue. And I can imagine that I overreacted. I just got the impression stated above. Perhaps I should have phrased it more diplomatically, though, and everybody has probably a different interpretation of the scene and the whole romance.

Edit: Just realized my sentence above is ambiguous. What I quoted was Garrus' sentence, not Kaidan's. Would be a bit illogical for Kaidan to say that - he wasn't there, after all. Sorry if that was unclear.
I recall him comforting Shepard when she starts to question herself - even though he questioned her for so very long for that precise thing. Therefore the impression of him either being not honest or a bit on hormones.

Well, I'll see what Garrus says when I get Meghan through.  With the announcement of  the Leviathan DLC, I'm no longer in a rush to get her through to ME3.  I'd like to limit the number of runs I have to do.

But, I was interested since I have a single Shep for ME3 and she was going to be aimed at Kaidan.

Not officially announced but here's one of the threads.

I'm pretty sure they're saving the offical announcement for comic con. Just sounds like a $10 war asset to me. Buuut let's not get into that. :innocent:

Ooooh! I'm excited to hear this! If only for the fact that there were some romancey lines dabbled in the EC leaked script stuff, so maybe they will give a nod to the romances again!

Maybe, but to be honest both statements would have the same effect on me. :o

Soltana, do you happen to have a place with your writing?

OMG that is beautiful  *melts*

I don't have anything up as of now. I had a few things for a while on FF.N but my account was either compromised or a site error happened and I lost everything. I think the external drive that had all that on there is still in a box from our recent move D:

Buuut the good news is, I'm working on something right now...it's no big sweeping epic, just a collection of little moments in their lives. I need to clean it up but it might be ready to see the light of the interwebs in the next couple of days.

Thanks XD And that's just my favorite kind of story really... so let me know :>
I'm not sure you're aware of this but I'd recommend uploading things to more than just ff.net, cause they're really reinforcing their rules now, deleting a lot of stories, there are groups of people who report everything for any tiny reason...

I probably won't be buying any DLC at this point, unless it has good LI content. Meh. I did sign the LI DLC surveys and polls.

Welcome to all the new peoples btw :3

Offtopic, but I've made sure that FFN will have a field day cleaning up my stories. I'm certain at least two of them will get reported soon, and this fills me with evil glee B)

So this is not a topic question, but, how do you guys get all the flash and unique avatars? All I ever see is my DA characters and then generic ones for all the games. Would love to know how to get some unique and cool.

That's what chaps my ass...I've never put anything too risqué up there but it's happened twice. Usually you get a notice (or at least you used to) when you violate TOS but...nothing. Go figure. I always said to myself I need a secondary place to publish my stuff but...I'm lazy.

Srsly, though, guys. Writing sucks. It's hard to keep these two stone-cold soldiers in character when I wanna write fluffy fluffies.

@Inanna
Check this link for a how-to. Even if you have the actual game, I prefer using the charactor creator method. I've never gotten the full game method to work for me. If you need further help, just ask. :)

Just read the first chapter.  BookMARKED.

Since this was brought up in the Garrus thread, I assume your FemShep is sticking with Garrus in ME3?  Haha.  (That is what I am secretly hoping).

The most stupid part to me is the flamers who report those stuff. Have you seen their groups? They have no idea what constructive criticism is, they request people to flame fanfiction that break rules to pressure the authors. It's like... youtube. Maybe worse.
I do wish everyone made a backup of their stories in other sites though, it's so sad to see stories go :C... I only know of Adultff.net (an old friend, lol) and Archive of Our Own. And well, livejournal, though it's kinda hard to find and browse things there.

@Soltana It's not just mature content stuff though, some examples from what I remember: no song lyrics (on this alone half of all fanfiction will go down lol) or any mention of copyrighted stuff, author's notes as a chapter is not allowed, I think grammar and chapter formatting needs to follow rules, like no sentences in the form of chat speak, instant messages (what if you're writing about people using an internet chatroom I wonder?), no commentary, no lists, and a simple mistake like putting something in the wrong category or -implying- mature content can get your piece deleted.

I'd suggest to add some fluff in a way you can imagine happening and still being beliavable, there's fluff in the game anyway, I mean, all those cute romance lines and all that epic flirting XD doit-doit-doit
Btw one of my favorite things in fanfiction is the UST X3 it dates back from my X-Files days, if you know that series you know UST. There was this great one that was written like the diary of Bridget Jones but with Scully. It was so entertaining, but unfinished. In fact I must back it up before it's gone from the site... /offtopic

Heya again guys, it has been a while!

Have your fanfictions been updated with ME3 scenes then Sia? I haven't read them since before ME3 came out, so I have a lot to catch up on if so :)

Also, after the extended cut has come out, is anybody aware if it is always Garrus who puts Shepard's name on the wall if he/she died? Or is it only if he was romanced? Also, I love how if Shepard chooses the renegade option and still lives, then Garrus hesitates, and then puts the sign down. Almost as if he has a psychic connection with Shepard and knows that he/she isn't dead :D

As someone who has been on ffnet since 2002, I had been over the years wondering where the reinforcement that used to be there disappeared to. They used to be a lot more strict on these issues before. This is not a new thing, the rules have been there from the beginning. Only now they're actually reinforcing them again.

The mature thing has always been stupid, but they had to take action due to complaints made my parents and thus adultfanfiction was born.

The other reasons for deletion that you mention - I'm in favor of all of them. They were told to be against the rules years ago and are annoying to see on the site. I'll be happy to see them go. (Except implying mature content, that's what the M rating is for. Besides that would make them delete all the stories with other mature rating things in them.)

As much as some people hate what they're doing, they're only enforcing the rules that have been there from the start. And they don't have a lot of options either. Have you guys ever thought of the position they're in and how fanfiction is seen? They're not threading on thin ice, but the ice is not thick either.

Yeah I've visited the site sincea round that time too, and I think it's a good thing to actually go by the rules of your own site, though I can't say I agree with them... I do not specially care for lyrics in fanfiction, but I think since fanfiction itself is using copyrighted things -in the first place-, it doesn't make a lot of sense. And for the rest of the stuff, I never had a problem with them, specially because if you have a story in the real world like Supernatural (they have a car, they listen to rock music, they reference real-world things all the time), you cannot avoid copyrighted stuff. And real people, etc. Which they don't allow apparently.

I have enjoyed them if only for artistic freedom, and there is a ME fanfic just about Shepard and Garrus talking through email messages -it's very good for the first few chapters at least. I'm not sure it is against the rules but it kinda sounds like it. I see no reason for it to be bad though.

It's artistically restrictive, and I don't want to support that. But it's their site and they can do what they want with it.

Anyway my problem is with:
1. never being able to see some fics again lol, but what can you do, some people aren't around anymore to back up their fics
2. the horrible, horrible bullies and flamers who are making clubs to gather everyone to flame and bully people (who are often kids) into changing their stories to fit the rules or quit the website. They're like 4chan and youtube in one place, and all the bad parts of the BSN. (and they do report what implies mature content - if they can't get stories down, they flame the author to death) They know you could just warn the authors and be polite and constructive, but all the people who talk to them get is the usual "freedom of speech" excuse people use to be jerks.

I'm with you guys there. My account is that old as well. I remember the huge hullabaloo that came from them cracking down years ago. Then they started letting things slide, the M rating came back (did it even go away?), and staff started not giving an eff again. I'm kind of hoping we're just on a roller coaster and they'll stop caring again :P The only thing that's gonna keep getting worse is the rule about copyrighted material. Seems like the entire internet is going down that road nowadays.

I'm conflicted, really. On the one hand limiting formatting would get rid of a ton of garbage. But on the other, these rules will really be knocking some good stuff off the shelves. Gah, I wish they would just baleet all the horrifying Mary Sue drivel and auto ban anyone with a name like XXXbloodyrists666XXX .......but that's just me being cranky.

So anyways guise, how 'bout dat Garrus?

Okay, here's a question... What would Garrus get your Shep for her birthday - providing they are docking at the Citadel the day before?

For my Shep I reckon another spaceship model - as she's missing one. Also another bottle of wine - the good stuff.
