Again, I understand that some people really liked the holding hands and kissing bits, but it was extremely disappointing to me as someone who wanted to learn more about turian culture and mannerisms.

I am sorry that you didn't find what you were looking for, then. Still, ME2 mentions "waist" and "fringe", and in the first London goodbye scene and the Citadel date scene, there are gestures which can be seen as references.

While I wouldn't have said "no" to learning more about turian culture, I find it very hard to find a reason to critize the Garrus romance. In absolute terms, we get roughly 15 occasions where there are small to large adaptions if Garrus is romanced, and about 20 if you count squad and former squad reactions. Many, many points of the "wish list" are fulfilled that was made somewhere before ME3's release. And speaking in relative terms, just looking at Thane, Jacob or basically anybody who's not Liara stops me from complaining. Plus, Garrus has the potential for having the highest screentime of all squadmates through the saga.

All in all, at least my Shepards are happy with the romance.

This, pretty much.  It honestly feels petty to complain about Garrus's romance after so many of the LIs got shafted so hard.  If by some miracle everyone gets their dues paid in a romance DLC, then I'll start asking for more turian-centric content in Garrus's romance.  But until then, I'm just thankful we got him at all.

Hey, so if you guys are not aware, we started a romance DLC blog that displays the results of a survey that was done back in July. It was created in hopes of showing what we liked about the romances, what we wished would have happened, what we were missing, etc. Now, we are looking for guest bloggers to discuss the characters they love. We are looking for someone to basically vomit love all over their love interest, in which case since you guys are all here, I'm assuming that's Garrus. It's basically just saying why you love this character, what you love about them, why you chose them as your LI ,etc. Only rules, you can't compare them to other characters and you can't bash BioWare for not including your LI in the game more. This is basically you making an argument for how awesome your LI is. Also, we're going a bit lenient to where you can write about a character you like but that's not YOUR LI but is an LI in the game, or one you wished was an LI. This can be up to4,000 words. So if you're interested, please send me a message as we'd love to have you.

Also if you're interested in seeing the blog, there is a Miranda Character Spotlight as we just started this on Tuesday and we will run another one on Saturday: me3cosmiclove.wordpress.com/

The Miri article was pretty awesome.  Fellow Garrus fans, let us contribute and discuss how awesome Garrus is!  It's not like we don't do it anyway around here :P

Now I have a curious: how do you guys go about explaining the whole "I romanced a six foot plus bird lizard man" thing?  I usually point out that Brandon Keener has a sexy as hell voice, but what makes Garrus attractive is that he's actually a decent person and a great partner for Shep.

Wish I could participate, but I don't think I'd be able to pull it off in English.

I usually go: "Have you seen his *eyes*?". Now in all seriousness...

To those who know about Mass Effect, I don't have to explain anything. They pretty much all aknowledge the fact that Garrus is awesome and are not surprised he's my favorite romance option (of all times).
To those who don't, I point out how funny and touching the whole romance (and friendship, key element here) arc is in both ME2 and ME3. If they're patient enough, I show them a couple cutscenes (usually the last romance scene from ME2 and the Citadel date in ME3). Usually works fine. I actually changed non-ME players into Garrus fangirls. They *still* haven't played the game but squee all around the place with me.

But really, for me the strength of this romance is that it builds up perfectly from game to game. They go from comrades in arms with a common goal, to friends, to very close friends, to lovers, to life partners. I pretty much see them as a married couple at the end of ME3, they're just so comfortable around each other.

Plus those EYES. And that VOICE. (Even the French voice is awesome.)

Loved the Miri article, I found myself nodding at pretty much everything that was written.

I'm really sad that's the end of the comic.

Both Shep and Garrus are so awesomely portrayed.

Looking forward to more from the artist B)

So, if Turians can't swim does that mean they don't really have a Navy?

Unless they build their ships out of turians, I'd say they still have a water-based navy.

We know next to nothing about Palaven, so it could also be that they don't have as much need for a navy as we do here on Earth, with all our water everywhere.

Well, crap. I've spent my last few nights off playing the hell out of ME3, since being the only one awake from midnight-7am allows for a lot of gaming time. I've finished Leviathan and am getting ready to go and finish the game proper.

Last time I finished the game, I was in a mild depression for about 2 weeks and then started up a new trilogy playthrough...to try a FemShep for a change, to check out the Renegade paths, to see some more lines from Garrus, but mainly to spend more time in the universe.

This time, though, I don't know what I'll do afterward. I'm sure the EC (and, most likely, any additional scenes with Garrus) will present a much more satisfying ending than the last go-around, but crap. It's still gotta end.

Can't decide at this point whether I prefer the romanced Garrus or the "best friend" Garrus, though. I'll have to finish the game first.

I haven't actually played the game with the EC yet either.  I just watched it on youtube and went "Eh, ok, the ending isn't a steaming pile of poo now.  Yay."  But we were in the middle of computer reformatting and updating, and the prospect of replaying and reinstalling ME3 was just too daunting.

Now I'm working my way toward ME3 with ManShep, so I'll be curious to see what you think of the EC.

Petty? Its not petty to go on a Garrus fan thread, ask if there's anyone else who is a fan of Garrus that also had issues with the way the romance was written.

I understand you probably enjoyed it. But the romance felt unoriginal and I do take issue with the portrayal.

He's an alien. He doesn't even have lips and he's dipkissing Shepard on the citadel. I was so weirded out, I decided to go Forever-Alone Shepard and dump him because his friendship seemed more intimate than the cheese that the romance had. It wasn't original and it felt like the writers took their cues from fanart and fanfiction instead of exploring a more unique, nuanced approach to romancing an ALIEN. Who is not a human being. Who doesn't have lips. And whose fluids you have allergic reactions to.

Anyways, this opinion doesn't seem welcome, so I'll take my leave.

I see your point and I understand what you mean (Garrus being an alien never really had a big impact on my decision of romancing him so I guess it didn't really affect me), but Sable said pretty, not petty. ^_^

Both, actually. But in an unagressive "personal kind of opinion" style, not "everybody who disagrees is to be fed to the vorcha".

@HolyJellyfish: As said, I have no problems with your point of view, and I am sorry that you didn't find the romance enjoyable. However, starting to argue around here will neither change the romance nor improve the mood of anybody here.

Garrus is great as a friend or as a lover. With the "or" not being exclusive, most around here should be able to agree. Why start fights about petty (there's that word again ;)) details?

Edit: Reread the post.
*chuckles*
Okay, still have no problems with the point of view, just a little with the attitude. Feel free to leave.

Yeah, I try not to think too hard about the implications of that, or about anything else regarding his biology for that matter. Wouldn't even skin contact (sweat) cause problems?

I agree that they did basically imprint a human-based relationship onto them, but if you back away far enough, you'll see human bias in every aspect of the ME universe. Every alien species has a few "gimmicks" that differentiate them, but they all have human personalities and emotions. Every species consumes and enjoys alcohol and understands the concepts and customs of a bar. Most species are completely at ease with the concept of a date. Practically every intelligent species in the universe looks more or less like a human. Humanity has been on the galactic scene for only a few decades but somehow controls heavy political power on the Citadel, which houses species that have been there for thousands of years. For some reason THIS cycle is different because it has humans, who are "more diverse" than any other species. Shepard, a human, is the first and only individual since the beginning of the cycles (over a billion years) to reach The Catalyst.

I suppose I'm starting to touch on larger plot criticisms here, and there are 1 or 2 token exceptions for almost everything I mentioned, but you get the point.

That's very true. Even for gestures. It makes me giggle whenever an alien uses air finger quotes ("Ah yes, Reapers!"). Because finger quotes obviously are a universal way of communicating.
