If I could choose when I want Garrus to hug my Shepard, I would choose it to be after the destroy ending :) It would be perfect!

There should have been hug Garrus options all through ME3.  :D

Garrus fans, I have a question:

I am going through a new playthrough with a renegade femShep who has a colonist/ruthless background and distrusts turians/batarians, and does not recruit Garrus in ME1. I  am now going into ME2 and have read that if not recruited in ME1 he cannot be romanced in ME2 nor ME3.

Do you find it an odd decision on BioWares part to not allow femShep to romance Garrus in ME3 if she was barred from romancing him in ME2 because she did not recruit him/know him in ME1, but under the same circumstances allowed Tali to romance him in ME3 when she (like femShep) knew nothing of him in ME1 and actually only possibly started to get to know him later in ME2 (post-Horizon recruit) while femShep had started a friendship with him earlier in ME2 (pre-Horizon)?

FemShep:

ME1 (Garrus not recruited)-----> unable to romance in ME2-----> unable to romance in ME3
ME1 (Garrus recruited)----->must start romance in ME2----->continue romance in ME3

Tali:

ME1 (Garrus not recruited)-----> unable to romance in ME2-----> able to romance in ME3
ME1 (Garrus recruited)----->unable to romance in ME2----->able to romance in ME3

I just find that particularly an odd decision since I now know my straight femShep will not have any straight romance options in ME3 now (Jacob and Thane not LI options in ME3/Kaidan lost on Virmire).  Wasn't Garrus's whole romance issue that he could not romance anyone, not even his own species, unless it is someone he can trust. I'd say by ME3 he can now trust femShep, more than any other squadmate, seeing as how she saved his life, helped him resolve a deeply personal issue, etc.

I took tons of offense at the options of ME3 romances for femshep that aren't Garrus or Kaidan. I feel like DAI made up for that (six...SIX love interests for a female elf!) But I had no idea why James wasn't an option, but the reporter and the Yauman were.

I feel like Tali and Garrus aren't in it for trust, it's just an "end of the world hookup."

I've been trying the Kaidan and Garrus romances now that I've gone back to playing the ME franchise. I'm trying to draw comparisons between them to see which one feels more rewarding. And now that I've finally neared the end of ME3, the inevitable conclusion is that Garrus is still the best romance (IMO, at least).

Kaidan is cute and a decent guy, but Garrus has something he doesn't. Garrus is just wittier and has more real life experience than Kaidan. He was a police officer, he saw a lot of corruption and crime in his past. He had to deal with mercs and corrupt officers on a daily basis. He saw how backstage politics perpetuates injustice. That is to say, he's aware of the dirty side of life. So he knows the system is not perfect and, although he has a good set of morals, he isn't a "by-the-book" kind of guy, like Kaidan is. He's more intimate with the true face of society and, therefore, more comfortable with himself and other people's imperfections.

Even being a turian, he knows when to drop formality and allow himself to have a good time with his lover. He's also battle-scarred and not afraid to dirty his hands when circumstances demand it, unlike Kaidan, who's the consummate soldier, always walking in a straight line. Kaidan also has high expectations of Shepard and the Alliance pretty much in general and ignores the Commander sometimes needs to do questionable things to achieve an end. Alternatively, Garrus almost never second guesses her and even praises her when she's willing to make the hard choice.

And that's just the thing! Being a Commander means dealing with situations going wrong and improvising solutions which are bound to rely on questionable means or generate unwanted consequences. Kaidan seems to be the king of guy who'd just blame Shepard for making a poor choice, while Garrus would humorously suggest such choice was not the best one after all and would try to help her fix the situation. Afterwards, he'd laugh about it over drinks, mentioning the episode as "remember that time when we almost got killed? Not at the Collector base, that other one". He'd be more laid back because he learned from his line of work that things seldom work out as planned. Kaidan, on the other hand, is uptight and less willing to accept that taking risks and throwing rules out of the window are more common than he thinks.

Garrus also seems to have much more empathy toward Shepard. In ME3, the kinds of questions he asks shows he's watching her and is concerned about her emotional health throughout the whole ordeal that is the war against the Reapers. He's also not afraid to play along and has a kinky side to him, which he displays on occasion. So all in all, I think Garrus "accomodates" Shepard a lot more than Kaidan. I'm afraid the soldier sees life too much through the lenses of the Alliance alone.

All reasons why he's always my Shepard's go to. My canon Shep never romanced anyone in the 1st Mass Effect, I hated the options. I did a few playthroughs of romancing Kaidan in ME1 just to break his heart in ME3, but then I learned to keep Ashley alive instead. Getting after her for being racist is much less tiresome than telling Kaidan over and over to get over himself.
