You guys do realize that actual Spartans didn't look anything like that, right?

Hush.  It's shirtless men/turians in skirts.  Don't bother us with facts.

Well yes, but there are real historical figures that ran at each other with swords with out any shirts or body armour, for instance there are many germanic cultures that did so, many of the tribes of italia also did it, some romans saw the use of armour as a sign of weakness and so sent their men into battle wearing nothing more than a loose fitting robe, which funnily enough either ripped, or fell off during battle. And the obvious one that I'm sure you know was that the original olympic games in ancient greece were performed in complete nudity.

Why would you take it from the complete perversion of history that is 300?

Improbably chiseled abs?

Frankly, if we're looking at ancient history, I'm a fan of the Picts. ;)

Oh, hey, look!  Blue face paint!

I'd say so, they are warriors after all, the warriors of italia would definately have been fit.

someone with better art skillz ... i will commission this!  Saren, Nihlus, Garrus, Techno turian, bartender... etc.  i want this. omg. the things my brain is doing right now...

I need this in my life. Don't forget to add Lorik and Valern, dark sexy turians are the most handsome (IMO).

What exactly would you want them to be doing?

OMG GRUSH!!! you're here!  i obsess over your art on DA.      i was thinking the classic 300 post... them all looking badass walking at the camara. :D   yes?  i'd pay.

and yes, bubble. i know qutte a bit about roman history. also warriors of all sorts. as a martial artist, i make it a point to konw these things... however, sometimes its fun to look at the fakeness and see the prettiness that follows. if that makes sense.  i've been at work for 12 huors and am loopy.

and i agree with leonia.  turians/hot men in skirts.  there is really no other reason for anything. i know the reality, and i accept it. doesn't mean i can't have a bit of fun with it. :D

Well the greeks in ancient art and in the quite good comic the 300 film is based on often went into battle nude. Therefore it's reasonable to think that turian spartans are practicaly lightly dressed for battle as well.

My gay turian fanart sense was tingling.

I'm going to be spending a lot more time in this thread, methinks.

...What?

Ok, I'll respond to what I think you said, I'm guessing you mean you are ok with movies messing up history if the outcome is entertaining? No, I have to admit I'm nothing like that, I just get angry usually.

The one that I really hate is when germans in a film set during world war 2 refere to themselves as n*zis, they didn't call themselves that, it was a term made up by the allies, they called themselves the national socialists, I have to this very day, not seen a film to ever get that right....

Edit: Are you f*cking kiding me BSN your going to bleep out the word n*zi?! Damn, now I have to put in an astrix and look like a tw*t, which funnily enough is another harmless word that the BSN censors...

Actually... ARMY OF TWORIANS!
http://t1.gstatic.co...yqfAmmpecWfaevu

Those two are Razek Panax and Traxus Rigg. Both Original characters owned by Meken and Von Verrikan. Malin requested both in a army of two ambient and armor thing... I am not too much into crossovers... Mind me. But you gotta admit this was a very cool idea hahaha!

I have a degree in ancient history and I loved 300. Just taking it for what it was - pure entertainment and gratuitous violence and gorgeous men :) It's based on a comic anyway, so it's the comics fault it's historically inaccurate XD.
Enough of this debate, I say. MOAR TURIANS PLEASE! I totally had an awesome Garrus dream last night. We were scoping and dropping all over the place.*sigh* Dreams are free :-\\

alright bubble, i'll clarify what i mean. i think taking artistic liberty with history is perfectly acceptible, if it is acknowledged as being artistic license ... to use the Roman/Spartan example... neither Frank Miller nor Zach Snyder ever claimed that they were making any sort of historical reference. Yes, the story was pulled from true events, but it was turned into a seperate entity.

I understand what you're saying about the n*zi thing. that is very annoying... but thats also a different thing entirely. thats not taking creative license and making an old fact into a new fiction, that is just falsifying.

If you've ever seen a series ilke Rome or Sparticus... those are much closer to reality. but even they took some creative license, cause it is necessary to do so to make a tv show or movie entertaniing. otherwise, it may as well be a documentary. which is fine too, but ... is not the same as a fictional show drawn from reality.

get me now?

Hate to be negative but every classically educated bone in my body just screamed at that moment. I have to ask where on earth you got that idea. The Spartans were magnificent warriors, trained from childhood to kill, but they weren't idiots. A Spartan warrior went into battle dressed head to toe in armour. We know this from various sources. The primary duty of a Helot (a race of slaves kept by the Spartans) on campaign was to help his master armour up in the morning. The only evidence we have of naked figures carrying spear and shield are depictions of the Hoplite Race during the olympics. Why the illustrator decided that the Spartans in 300 should be dressed in leather speedos I do not know.

Anyway, Garrus:

Oh, really? Hm, well maybe I'd have appreciated the film more if I had read the comic, I'll look out for it.

Ahhh, I feel like I should apologise for something, but I'm not entirely sure what.

Yes I do see what you mean, but to me in a way it really isn't all that differant from the n*zi thing, for instance it annoys me greatly that the film portrays persians as barbaric, horrid, killing machines, it also irritates me greatly that the film portrayed King Xerxes as androgynous, is that not taking old fact and making it into new fiction?

Anyway, we've gone grossly of topic...

I actually find turians much more attractive in full armor.

Then again, I find everything more attractive in full armor.

If that makes you sick then it makes everyone here sick! Including me.

"Let this house be our asylum for we are the breed of ill mind and we take no shame in it!"

Or for those who don't know sh*t about Tolkien, to the typical ignorant conformists out there we're all bloody mental so lets just have fun and accept that we're all bonkers to someone, no matter what we believe or practice.

Oh yes, deadly serious.

The Witch King was in fact not tainted by one of the 9 rings of power, it was teburculosis! And when he died trying to kill king Théoden? Well, the part where he is slain by Éowyn is nothing more then public misconception! In reality, he merely succombed to his ailment and died, but the publisher though it wasn't climactic enough...

In other news, Hitler is still alive and I am the real Lorki Qui'in!
