Everbody walk the Dinosaur.

...Thanks. That is going to be stuck in my head all night. I'll be dancing to it in the kitchen then my room mate will walk in on me and wonder if I've finally lost it. Which I probably have, since I dreamed about Mordin and I fighting over test tubes.

Anyways!

The reason for a high birth rate is due to their evolution; living in a high risk habitat means that a species must adapt, and the krogan have high birth rate to have a better chance in surviving. Then the Salarians came, gave them high tech and guns before evolution deemed it necessary. It's like giving a caveman a gun before he invents the spear, or even fire. Since the Krogan were then given different worlds to colonize, and with their high birth rate, the Krogan soon overpopulated their colonies. So, instead of requesting more worlds to colonize, they did what they knew best: war.

I agree with Laecraft that the Genophage is indeed a very morally grey subject matter. There really is no right or wrong in it, because both moral standpoints lead to the fullest would have caused galactic war or destruction of the species that eradicated the Rachni. The death of thousands of baby Krogan is horrible to swallow, but if the Genophage was not introduced, the Krogan would have caused full scale war.

Mordin said he would not have minded a peaceful solution with the Krogan, but the way he said it implies the Krogan weren't going to sign any treaties. So, the Genophage is created to slow Krogan birth rate where only 1 in 1,000 baby Krogan would survive. The galaxy is safe again, but the Krogan are scattered about everywhere and unable to really do anything to help their people. Wrex is the only one known of to want to do anything about it. I think Virmire opened his eyes.

Then in comes Mordin who has "seen the light", and apparently wants to help the Krogan. At least a little. A total cure would possibly cause another war - which would most likely be started by the Krogan who would want revenge on the galaxy that sterilized them. (But with Wrex as a figure head, maybe it won't come to that). Mordin's treatment won't totally fix everything that happened, but it's a start. Change takes babysteps, we can do nothing but appreciate those who decided to say enough is enough.

I've always treasured Wrex's very much "behind the scenes" character development in ME1; when I first played it one of the myriad thoughts in my mind concerning where he might be headed in the sequels was indeed uniting Tuchanka. I was delighted to discover that that is totally the case and I can't wait to fight alongside his krogan horde on a mission or two in ME3. (Actually, I think we know for fact it will be two missions or more.)

One thing that I really pined for in ME1 was more of a salarian perspective on the genophage because BioWare doesn't do black and white as often as most developers. I had figured that if peace were an option they would be fine with it; after all, they uplifted the krogan from their homeworld and into the stars in the first place and folks like Kirrahe really reinforced that the salarians were far from an inherently vile people anyway.

That said, I wasn't expecting a salarian so complex as Mordin. The genophage is definitely a morally grey subject matter and Mordin perfectly encapsulates this during his loyalty mission. The writers knew some of us would walk way from it with one opinion while some would have another -- and the rest would be just as conflicted as the professor himself. That's... terrific.

That is why BioWare rules with video games. Their games are like...a conflict sandwich. Where you think it's just one problem until you peel back the outer layer and there is SO MUCH MORE. It's never utterly black and white - there is a lot of grey.

Speaking of which...grey poupon anyone? *shot for horrible joke*

Anyways. I'd say it's a lot harder to be in a grey area of thinking because you always wonder if you should join one side or the other. I think this was Mordin's true fight throughout his LM. Was the Genophage right? Was the Genophage wrong? He kept asking himself these questions as he analyzed data, spoke about his work, and saw a deceased female Krogan on the table who sacrificed herself for a possible cure. I think that's what opened his eyes - because if you just debate with him about it one on one, he'll defend the modification's ethics without thought. He had to see it to understand what he did, because all he had before was theories and simulations - Mordin may have understood everything that was going to happen, but he never experienced it. Then Maelon hits the nail on the head, sealing Mordin's doubts. I honestly think letting Mordin keep the data is the best choice; because then it is by his own free will and with a clear head he decides to throw it away or use it later on.

In the end I think Mordin better understands the situation, and he can face it all head on.

This becomes my line of reasoning as well. Why be rash and impulsive with the cure, or Kasumi's graybox? Either can always be destroyed at a later date. Unless the cure is at risk of suddenly falling into the wrong hands (it shouldn't be), I see no harm in letting Mordin stash it away.

Felt like doing a Mordin Solus-background using an original ME3 background (Already did one with Ashley, might do it with some characters if people like it.)

Awesome sauce.

I can't believe Mordin's fan thread isn't even 20 pages long.

I hope that there IS some noticeable difference in ME3 depending on whether or not Shepard saved the data (I agree that I don't see what the purpose was of the mock drama "should we destroy it NOW?"). I hope it isn't reduced to a simple line of dialogue: "Shepard, it would have been so much easier to conduct experiments on the Krogan princess if we kept the data!" or "Keeping the data sure made this project easier!" and then the rest of the scene is the same.

I wouldn't be thrilled with such a simple throwaway either but I'd be happy enough so long as some recognition occurs, which I'm sure will be the case.

Mordin's had no love for 48 hours. :crying: So I made this:

Well, I drew my current Shepard. Mordin is, sadly, copy-pasted. I can't draw him. :pinched:

I was inspired by the Genophage debate. :wizard:

He is easily the greatest video game character of all time. Michael Beattie is outstanding in ME2. Salarians = amazing. Captain Kirrache, The workers, Schells, Chorban, MORDIN, Dr Palon!, rentola. All amazing.

Sadly it seems we are not going to get a salarian squadmate in ME3. At least we get to visit their homeworld though. That'l be fun. Oh and every single ME3 multiplayer game i will be a salarian.

Thanks, phantomdragoness. Really encapsulates the sorrows, the very moral conflicts, of 48 hours with no Mordin love!

@MordinKrios:

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to Sur'Kesh. Everyone's talking about how tired of seeing it in the previews they are but I can't wait to see more from Mordin and his people. :D

@ jeff zero. Couldn't agree more. The side quests should be pretty entertaining.

On Mordin, he also had the best room on the Normandy Sr-2. Not like Grunt living with old Costco boxes up in the attic or Tali who i only went to see to speak with the hilarious Scottish Dude. Or Jack when i had to visit her to hear her whining. She was like some tramp living under the stairs of a particularly nice hotel.

Mordin rules. End of

One thing I've said before, if Mordin's doing a back and forth with Kirrahe during that final inspirational speech, I'll be happy.

Took a nap earlier. Had a dream. Mordin was in it. To my conscious knowledge, this may have been a first.

Long story short: he was teaching at my college.

Ugh, dreams can be so amazing.

Awesome...
Though I'd have to wonder how many people would drop out of his class because they couldn't keep up. Honestly, despite my adoration for Mordin...I'd fail. Horribly.

Just a Mordin doodle I did the other day. I haven't draw him in so long, so I'm happy he turned out fairly decent:

I think he's trolling my Shepard at this point, now.

I hope that he is back as he made the character what he is. But even if he doesn't he still is a fantastic character.

His voice just sounds... off. Meers puts forth a valiant effort but Michael Beattie needs to be back for Mordin.
