I'm also relatively new to the forums (I used to post here ages ago). Just learned about all this...
And it's terrible. It's just terrible. From all the dissapointing news about unreleased Mass Effect things I've ever heard, this is the one.

I'm sad.
:crying:

It's depressing enough that I've lost the will to routinely bump the thread, so I'm happy when others do. Heh.

I still cling to false hope it's going to be Beattie after all.

Bioware, thanks for sloppily made games. At least Bethesda's are awesome, until they took an arrow to the knee and got tons of bugs in their games. But still awesome.

I've resigned myself to simply not thinking about it.

Same.

@Joseph, Why do you say BioWare's games are poorly made?

Just finished playing Jade Empire, can't believe it took me this long to give it a try. Really enjoyed Kang the Mad he reminded me of Mordin, both characters fit into the 'Mad Scientist' archtype. But whereas Kang never grows beyond being the mad scientist Mordin sometimes makes you forget that he does have many of the 'mad scientist' qualities but they go unnoticed often because Mordin has so much depth to his character.

Basically, Mordin is awesome.

I'm considering playing the Mordin parts without sound and imagining the right voice in my head.

Still haven't given up hope, though. This could just be an elaborate prank.

Mordin needs more love!
If Beattie isn't returning, then the only way to keep Mordin - well, "our" Mordin - alive is through places like this. More power to you all for sticking your necks out trying to bring back Michael. Regardless of what choices Bioware has made regarding the character in Mass Effect 3, it's nice to know people around here take stock in the original character - all parts of him.

(P.S. I'm really tired, so that may have come out stranger than I meant it to).

Mordin's not being voiced by his original VA? I haven't been on the forums for a while so excuse the confused outburst..but..WHYYYY?!

I think its because they took the cheap route. His work was excellent - top notch. Michael Beattie IS Mordin Soulus.

They brought back all of the other voice actors, why not him?

I have a theory here - since I am seeing a pattern. The same doofus that thought mining was fun, and that a human Ahhhhnie termi-reaper was cool is now making the call to not bring back good old Michael Beattie. What Bioware / EA should be doing is firing the people who fail so badly. Planet scanning sucks! Human - Reaper terminator clones suck! Cloning Mordin into a new voice actor now - for the last of the Mass Effect Shepard story - is also a bad call.

I have a hard time believing BioWare really is going to take the "cheap route"--not when this is the end-all game in the series and will quite probably become one of their crowning achievements (it would be a sore sight indeed if ME3 didn't make the cut). My guess is that if they really did not take Beattie, there must be a darn good reason for it. BioWare has probably made millions by now with the success of the ME series; if they could afford Beattie before, I'm sure they can afford Beattie at this point.

I am a bit nervous, though, concerning this issue. It's gotten so close to release time that if they haven't taken poor Mike for the role, I'd highly doubt there would be time to hire him, record all of Mordin's lines, and animate Mordin to Beattie's voice--within two months, and testing for bugs. At this point, I would say keep your fingers crossed and hope they've gotten Beattie for the role--I would be disappointed if BioWare hasn't hired him, but at this point, there isn't enough time to change things around.

I'm hopeful, though. Mordin was such a loved character in ME2, and it's hard to see BioWare try changing the formula for a wildly-successful character like Dr. Solus. That is, assuming they saw what happened when they did that with DA2, and how the fan-base literally clawed at them (a little too harshly, in my opinion) for tinkering with the model of success for DA:O.

Well, here's wishing for a great ME3 and a great, cataclysm-and-end-of-the-world-free 2012!

I'm just sorry mordin wasn't romancable. Personally I don't have any crew member that I "hate", though Jacob was a little blend and tended to dissappear in the back ground. I'm guessing the new guy will do the same, can't even remember his name.

Mordin's in SWTOR. So at the very least, he's not on bad terms with BioWare.

Wow, no comments on this?

Really? I thought proof of him working with BioWare would have louder response. Or response at all, in fact. Anyone with functional ears will hear that the guy in the clip is Michael Beattie.

Okay, I'll respond for you. I guess I'm glad that Bioware and Beattie aren't on bad terms or anything. And if it does mean that it's more likely that he is in ME3 after all, then I would certainly be very happy about that.

Happy?

Kidding, this is actually fantastic, love him. However, it begs the question; if they're not at each other's throats, what the hell happened?

So, what's your theories on his absence from ME3 now that we know he's been working for BioWare?

Mordin shows up for a bit in this new video of the Kinect demo at CES:

(you can kinda-sorta hear him for a few lines, but not a whole lot with the demo-guy talking over the game's audio)

I like the BioWare-trademarked "walks away after end of conversation, either to stage left or stage right" followed by the droid showing up and arresting him.

Anyway, yeah, that is definitely Beattie. Awesome that he's still on good terms with BioWare, at least.
