I like the BioWare-trademarked "walks away after end of conversation, either to stage left or stage right" followed by the droid showing up and arresting him.

Anyway, yeah, that is definitely Beattie. Awesome that he's still on good terms with BioWare, at least.

So, what's your theories on his absence from ME3 now that we know he's been working for BioWare?

I think you hit the nail on the head already. I think SWTOR got in the way of his ME3 role.

Would explain why he's been all hushhush about it, too. BioWare and EA held down the lid on SWTOR pretty hard prior to launch.

Did you heard Mordin in recent ME3 video with Kinect.

We could hear Mordin few times and he sounds kinda pitched to me.

I'm not sure if its a good indication. its a minor cameo role seems like. not sure which part of jedi knight story (I barely touched my republic characters, having too much fun with my imps)

Jennifer Hale voiced entire class (female trooper) and managed to voice female commander Shepard as well.

monetary issues doesn't seem like a good reason either. I mean they can afford big name stars to come back and reprise their roles, unless Beattie asked for something unreasonable, i don't see salaries being an issue.

we still don't know the full story or his current relationship with Bioware. it sucks that he's not coming back :( and I'm still wondering why

I play a Consular. The quest Beattie's in is open to all Republic classes, not just Consulars. Also, it must be horrifying to play Imperial with all the dark side babies running around playing sith assassins like braindead monkeys rolling back and forth across the keyboard.

As for Beattie, that character is not the only one he's voiced, it's just the first I've encountered and the one that sounds most like Mordin. It's not economical in MMO's to hire a single voice actor for a single role.

But, D.C. Douglas voiced many characters in The Old Republic and he's still voice acting Legion in Mass Effect 3.

Which brings me to believe that Beattie WILL be in ME3, and that his "Oh but I have no contract" is just a really mean way of messing with his fans. Either that, or the voiceover director took a brick to the head and decided to replace him with someone inferior.

they have yet to give us an answer on the subject so I'll going sticking with he's totally doing Mordin again.

Seems like the only explanation would be that Mordin's role is relatively small in ME3 and Beattie was asking for payment that Bioware/EA considered too much for the amount of lines, and they couldn't reach a compromise. :(

I'm going to give the new VA a chance, from what I've heard so far, he sounds very similar.

According to ME3 leaked script, you're very off on him having minor role.

In fact, he has huge role.

His plot importance is bigger than it was in ME2.

"Brick to...voice director...head..."? If that's what it takes to get Beattie in ME3.

Well I haven't read the leaked script, I was just making a guess here, not saying I'm right! ;)

Yeah, would of liked Mordin to get a little more priority, but if it was other roles that were getting in the way it's less of a let down than if it was some disagreement on their part.

Here's another Kinect demo video, but this one, you can actually hear Mordin's voice clearly:

^It's Mark Meer.

Though it looks like it's just rehash from E3., only polished and has Vega.

Hell, I'll be a VA shortly myself and even I won't go that far. I contacted Michael Beattie, spoke with him and everything. Wonderful, spirited guy. But unless the new VA is terrible I'm not going to kill a character every single file, missing the character's development in ME3, just because BioWare made a silly decision.

A VA? Really? That's fantastic. Don't hear about many people doing that; most of the VA's we all know have been around for years. Most of them decades. How'd you do it?

And i completely agree about not killing someone over a voice. If it fits the character, I don't see a problem. Don't get me wrong, I was down just like most everyone else that Beattie mysteriously vanished from ME3, but its not the new VA's fault.

And lets be serious, if you had the chance to play an intruiging character like Mordin, wouldn't you? Its like that debacle of a Dragonball movie with Chatwin. Fire the casting director, but Chatwin was offered one of the most iconic roles in history, what was he going to say? No?

New VA for Mordin? Oh that makes me very sad. He's one of the most interesting, complex, and unique characters Bioware's offered in a while. I hope the new guy is able to fit the bill of a Salarian who thinks too quickly for his mouth, and shoots too fast to think.

Man I love Mordin.

is there any chance that Michael Beattie will be called in to record dialogue between the release of the demo and early March?

Or is that not enough of a window to get voice work done?

Ah, sorry, Bent. I never noticed your reply. Been pretty busy this week so I haven't been on as much either.

Well, basically you go to school for it. But right now I'm still in the "get an AA with all the proper VA-related prereqs" stage, so when I say 'shortly' I'm speaking relatively, heh. After that I'll transfer to a specific kind of school for acting to get my Bachelor's. I might get my Bachelor's in Journalism instead though, in which case I'll just start showing up at auditions naught but the high scores in AA-level courses under my belt. A lot of folks actually get somewhere with just those classes and a good work ethic.

I have some light acting experience too. Community theater, Rocky Horror, Renaissance Festival. Small-time gigs.

Anyway, to the most recent post: it's a pretty damn small window. The likelihood is miniscule. But never say die.
