1) Do not insult a users family members.
2) No pictures of genitals.
It is full of insults, swearing and bizarrness yet everyone is having a great time.
The BSN's problems are probably more to do with the nature of videogame fans, the broad demographics that they encompass and that there are rules as to how you can act.

Please note that "in before the lock" and "cool story, bro" posts, along with their associated meme images, do nothing to advance the discussion and are considered spam.
Cool story, bro.
On a serious note, it depends on the topic at hand. It's hard, especially in the off-topic section to find serious responses off the bat because aside from it being the obvious off-topic section, there is quite a few spam or troll threads. So by default, people aren't going to take initial discussion seriously unless it's on a topic like a game, or something else that people can talk about like music.
Other topics, such as relationship issues often come under scrunity as it's assumed to be a troll post by default. If however, the thread attracts a few serious responses, with the OP also contributing to the discussion, then you're much less likely to see spammy kind of posts.
When you mix that with the fact that BSN doesn't allow people to discuss topics that actually attract a lot of serious (and heated) discussion like religion and politics, it becomes that much harder to take things seriously in the off topic section.

In general this "cool story bro" attitude is the attitude of the internet. It's just a simple fact and if a person can't handle it, he shouldn't get into forums to begin with. Most people (me included) only come to these forums when they are bored.
Edit: Oh and I might as well add that a lot of people in forums and especially here do like to twist peoples' words and intentionally misunderstand what is being said in order to launch a bickering contest. I dislike this. A lot. It starts to irritate me so much that eventually I have no idea what I'm writing anymore. This happens surprisingly often and has killed several threads and will continue doing so.
I personally have a rather harsh and snappy attitude to everything. It's due to the fact that at some point in my life I've had bigger problems than a zit on my nose in the morning. I really can't make myself care about "My gf just broke up with me waaah waaah" or "does my ass look big in these jeans?" type of humbug. I'm a very emphatic person when it comes to people having real worries and problems but when it's about spoiled people QQing over nothing then I just can't help but get snarky.
You have to deal with problems in your life yourself. Asking in the forums won't make you feel better. I did this when I was in a rut myself (which is why I at least try to write semi-serious posts) but eventually I just started feeling pathetic, repeating those things in a forum over and over again instead of getting up from my ass and changing my own attitude towards life.
Also, in the more serious advice threads, the general attitude of the OP is always "Yeah, I read your post but actually, I didn't read it at all. I'm going to do the exact opposite the million times more experienced people are telling me to do and then I will come back after a day or two and whine some more." It's tiresome and helps no one.
Also, do note OP, that Bioware Social's community is particulaly childish, nasty and troll infested. If you want meaningful discussions with people, you're better off going to another forum or maybe setting up a private group and inviting people who seem like good fellows.
I personally would hang around the Guild Wars 2 Guru forums but those people are way beyond me in intelligence level

9 gigs, cool story bro. To be serious for a moment, the internet is completey screwed. Too much of an age gap I think and too many people trying to be cool instead of honest/serious. But what can you do? People will be what they are. This is what our future will be.Milana_Saros wrote...

You know what's funny. I signed up for Facebook because a few people irl asked if I had Facebook and wanted to friend me but I have no idea how to work it. It seems like people just post status updates like Twitter and have their friends respond. It makes almost no sense to me. I don't know why people would post every significant detail of their life on Facebook or Twitter. Seems pretty boring to me.Milana_Saros wrote...
