this is an outrage!
i think a live prothean would take away from the finality of the heroic last effort of the ilos scientists
Does anyone else what a Prothean squadmate or interactive character?

Not really not a large fan to bugs.
The Protheans weren't 'bugs.' The Protheans looked like the tentacle-faced beings Shepard sees in the visions, and that are also portrayed in the statues of Ilos.The Protheans weren't an insectoid race. The bugs you are thinking of are Collectors, not Protheans.
The Reapers kept around some of the indoctrinated Protheans and cybernetically and genetically altered the species to such a degree, that they were no longer Prothean. That is why the Collectors look so radically different from the Protheans. They've got other bits of DNA from other species spliced into their original Prothean genetic code, in addition to cybernetic 'enhancements.'
Anyway, back to the topic...
I'd be against having a Prothean squadmate. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, but I think the story works better with the Protheans truly dead and gone for good. They are lesson on what could happen to humanity and the rest of galactic civilization, if Shepard fails.

I'd be in favour of a Collector squad mate. Technically that's a Prothean, or what's left of them. I've got one in my fic that I'm enjoying exploring. The rest of his race is dead at Shepard's hands, and that makes for some interesting conflict with the Commander while he comes to terms with what his people were and what happened to them, as well as a little pride that they managed to give Shepard the Conduit, Vigil, the visions etc.

A collector squad mate would be hard to explain however, because they don't have free will. They are indoctrinated, and cybenetically altered so that they can be possessed by Reapers (or at least, Harbinger) at any time.

@Han Shot First:
I think I'm doing a pretty good job at overcoming that, though. Then again, maybe I just really like the Revenant!

No, not really, since I did blow the **** out of their base in Mass Effect 2.
The Protheans/Collectors were traitors and slaves of the Reapers, they do not deserve a place in Commander's squad.

Shepard's Cipher + Mordin's Genius + Collector genes + Edi's data on Styx Theta Prothean alleles = Protheans reborn, if Shepard plays his/her cards right. And if Shiala is around, Shepard doesn't even have to directly participate. How awesome would it be if Shepard is able to grasp the Prothean race from the jaws of extinction and restore them to the galactic community. That would make the victory over the Reapers complete.

It would be interesting if Vigil was keeping one last Prothean alive to deal with the inevitable Reaper arrival - they could delay it, but surely they knew the Reapers would not stay in Dark Space forever.
