Exactly how does getting the squadmate achievements work?
Do you only get it after the game is over? I've taken Kaidan EVERYWHERE accept the actual Virmire mission (he was with salarian team). But EVERY other mission or assignment so far he has been with me. I have Noveria (and of course Ilos on) left. I've clearly done the majority of the game with him in my party.

You are supposed to take them everywhere and in the PC version it would trigger right in the middle of the game. It depends on a certain number of missions per character, I think even including the Citadel fetch missions ie the keepers and the like.

There are a bunch of side missions that pop up after doing Feros and Noveria that may impact the speed you get it, as well as having Bring Down the Sky.

having bring down the sky makes it trigger sooner, possibly allowing you to get another squad mate achievement

I have done every everything (BDtS, all assignments, all little quests). The only time Kaidan was not in my group was when he was with the salarians. I have Noveria and Illos left. But if sending him with the STG nullifies it I'd like to know so don't keep wasting time trying to get something that I can no longer achieve.

most of it is for all those assignments. i was actually worried about getting alot of those achievements, but if you make sure you do a lot of assignments its really easy. the citadel has a bunch of side missions for example. i would give you a bunch o' tips, but not sure if you're using PC or box? if you are using xbox and still cant get one to pop send me a message and ill try to help. take note that he might not be doing all the side-quests that you did. the achievement is triggered by the number of assignments completed in addition to how far along in the story/plot you are. in some cases peope can beat the whole game without getting the achievement (liara in particular, she is a little harder because you get her later on).
basic method i used to get all 6 ally achievements in one weekend. less than 5 hours of gameplay for each playthru. hope this helped, wasnt planning on going in that much detail, but it kind of just happened
you DO NOT have to scan any planets, collect turian insignia or wtv, matriach writings, mineral deposits, all those collectable time consuming assignments. the exception is doing the keepers, as these are actually very easy to complete, and there is another assignment tied into it. once you get the first couple, like say you just did a PT with ashley and tali, it will become much easier to get the rest after you get a feel for which you need. i had the same general plan each time i was going for those achievements
- do not touch any assignments (including Fist OSD on the choras den mission) untill you become a spectre and get the normandy.
- emmediately travel to therum and pick up liara (even if you arent going for asari ally achievment, doing this method is much more effective)
- return to citadel and complete the ship inspection with admiral guy. then proceed to finish every other citadel assignement, with the allies you want for achv of course. note that a handful of mission are only available after a main quest is finished, which is why i say to retrieve liara then go back for more. here is a link to all available assignments in the game (unc included) http://masseffect.wi...iki/Assignments
- complete main missions in whatever order you want, also finish up asteroid DLC if you have it.
- save Virmire for your last mission, and make a seperate save BEFORE going to virmire.
- make sure to complete the TWO sidequests that are only available during lockdown, before the trip to illos!
- head out with desired squaddies and finish the entire end sequence with them (as much as you can, with virmire seperating ashley/kaiden)
- if you cannot get the achievement to pop by the time you are at boss fight with saren, then its safe to say you didnt complete enough missions. LOAD the pre-virmire save and complete more side missions. most of my achievements popped around 40-50 assigments (some need more because of how late you aquire them)

Yeah, Wrex came up way sooner for me than for either of the other two I got, who were right at the end of the game. What gives?
