He shrunk himself down to miniscule size and is resting on one of a krogans quad. Thus the colour change from red to blue or vice versa etc etc.

Serious answer: he's on Mercury, or in orbit around the planet, or in solar orbit at about 3 AU. The star is Sol. His big window is ten foot thick welder's glass, which is why the Sun looks so dim.
