If they can't or wont do that then add a butt load of content to dlc on day 1.  It would be free cause Bioware wouldn't be able to fit all that awesomeness on 2 or 3 discs so the smart thing to do is add what can't be added to dlc.

I wish. Don't think we're getting 5-6 disks full of content however.

you havent heard of the new DVD's that are being used? Thats why Microsoft had a recent upgrade to their system in order to have this not happen.

ME2 and all its DLC is two discs.

You don't need six discs. ME3 doesn't need to be three times ME2's length.

ME2 will most certainly have 2 disks on XBox 360. Maybe 3.

They should make xboxs that hold 5 discs, like cd changers.

The number of disks really isn't much of an indicator of anything.

those new Xbox discs are a little bigger than the original ones, something like 10 to 14 gigabytes, less than a Blu Ray but more than my DVD-R stuff...

2 discs considering this new format.

the XGD3 disk format adds roughly 1 gig more to the 6.5 or so gigs of regular dvds.

5 disks, or a crapload of "free" DLC. As long as you dont mind paying $200 for ME3, and waiting an extra 6 months for itr to be released while they develop all this new content.

ME2 told a good-length story. ME3's story is much larger in scope but the development team has already stated they're aiming for something similar to ME2's in length and I have confidence the writers can weave an intricate, meaningful tale in that amount of time.

I find ME1 shorter than 2 and both games are good at their respective lengths. I don't doubt in BioWare's ability to go three for three in that department.

Of course, if they wanted to make it into an incredibly long game who am I to stop them? If they thought they had that much story to tell and somehow managed to develop the game on time despite its long length, I'd be happy all the same, of course.

The OP has a valid point. 5 to 6 discs would be stretching it. I hold to 3 discs though at least. The amount of discs is an indicator of a longer game. All throughout many threads, I read "It's straying too far from it's RPG roots." or "It has too much action and is starting to play like all the other shooters on the market." Those issues could be easily addressed and rectified provided they had enough storage to give the players both worlds thoroughly without sacraficing one for another. But like I said, I doubt there would be that many when DLC could help expand it.

It's not a matter of BioWare looking at a bunch of DVDs lying around their offices and saying, "we can fix everything if we just use more of these babies", though. It obviously has to do with time and cost matters just as much as anything else.

I mean, everyone here probably knows that on some level but it's kind of worth driving home a little bit. There are a lot of factors involved in everything.

*facepalm*

The "new" DVDs are not 10-14GB. They're the same exact size, Microsoft managed to change the way security is handled on each DVD, thus giving an extra 1GB of free space. They're still the same 8GB DVDs.

Dude, its still a 8Gb DVD all they did was take out 1Gb worth of video data that was held in reserve on all discs (you know the "You must put this disc in an Xbox 360 system to play" message when you put a 360 disc into a DVD drive) and change some security measures so instead of a 360 disc having 6.8Gb if game data it has 7.8Gb of game data. Well, they said that ME3 will be roughly of the same length as ME2, so two discs should be expected.

They just need to make the disc-swap unnecessary if both discs are installed on your hard-drive.

It's only one gigabyte that is being added, nothing compared to Blue-Ray which has 25 gigs or PC which can store any amount of information so long as you have the space.
