You could also take into consideration the fact that he may not be suggesting everyone just amass and attack, but that politicians stop hiding in their closets and PREPARE to fight rather then running away from the inevitable battle.

When, in all of Mass Effect, have you ever deviated from that plan? Every time that negotiations break down, what does Shepard almost always resort too?

Since you can't negotiate with the Reapers, guess what Shepard's next plan is going to be? I don't understand why you all think this is so out of character for him. Shepard is a ruthless bastard when he doesn't get his way.

Edit: Also, the trailer would have been *really* stupid if instead of a one liner we got a 12 minute speech about Shepard's battle strategy against the Reaper invasion.

So deal with it.

It's one of those "cowboy up" lines used to raise morale.

Again, I submit to you the thirteen minute long trailer of nothing but Shepard talking about a battle strategy against the Reapers. You can't honestly tell me you think that would have been more entertaining.

Anything can sound stupid when taken out of context.

This is quoted because of the macho level (which appeals to many, and is sound marketing... they generally don't need to make the big punchy marketing for established fans), but in context it probably makes sense. For example, the line could be said when the debate is whether to run away or try and negotiate with the Reapers (Saren-style)... in which case the line would be quite dramatic and make sense: doing anything but fighting the Reapers will lead to our eventual defeat.

Granted, that does not make it a plan, but the point would be that any plan which does not include fighting the Reapers will lead to our death.

Is there such a trailer? NO there isn't so it's pointless to use such an example for comparison when it's non-existant.

To raise morale? When I hear that from the guy that's meant to be our only hope, the exact thought in my mind is something along the lines of "Well, that's it. We're ****ed."

When he said this during the " Fall of Earth " Trailer : I was like, "Hell Yes !! Damn Right. Let's Kick Some Ass !!

It also reminds me of what

When Commander Shepard said, "We fight or we die! That's the the plan..." I knew what he meant, I had no problem seeing him remind the Asari the Salarians the Turians and any else in attendence of what they have already acheived when push came to shove in past Great Wars ( Racchni/Krogan Rebellions ) He could also remind them of how in thier own generation they have already upset the Reapers plans-- and defied them on multiple occasions: Which proves that there many successes are not a fluke...Definition of SUCCESS1 obsolete : outcome, result 2 a[/i] : degree or measure of succeeding b[/i] : favorable or desired outcome; also : the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence 3 : one that succeeds
--The Battle of the Citadel: The Reapers attempted to return to this galaxy and reclaim control of the Citadel.They Failed.

--Krogan Shock Troops: Virmire Mission. Thrawted once more.

We don't really know the context of the line in-game or even if it will be in the game.

It was just a marketing ploy to sound "cool" which instead (to me at least) sounded like a ridiculous marketing gimmick that tried to sound cool but failed miserably. But the entire trailer it was in had loud and cheesy rock music blaring the whole time and was a lame attempt at being cool.

Depending on who he is speaking to, it may be sarcasm...

If the other person is one of those who adamantly spent the last two years denying the Reaper threat I'd say it's not unreasonable...
Instead of saying "You sodding idiot! I warned you all two years back! Had you started preparing properly we'll be more ready by now! And now the Reapers are here and you want us to waste time, time we no longer have by the way, planning!? Planning that YOU should have done in the last two years, instead of sitting on your backside doing nothing!", he merely sates there's no time to do anything, by now the only things one can do are fighting and have a slim chance or dying for sure...

Unless something evens the odds...

Shepard actually meant that we literally have to do something to win the war... Talking strategy at a cup of tea is not an option.
