It's not rare for a trailer to have a dumb line.

What do you want him to say? It's supposed to be a catchy one liner, that sounds cool and awesome. Do you want the trailer to be 30 minuets long with Shepard in a board room discussing his bad ass plan in detail?
Except that it was the opposite of cool and awesome.

But it wasn't cool and awesome. I felt genuinely embarrassed for everyone involved in the creation of that trailer when I heard it.

No one...I don't know....thinks that's just a renegade response from a renegade Sheperd?
I would hope that the renegade response would be like "you stay here, while I go save the universe like always."

I thought it was an entierly appropiate line for the situation.

"What's the plan?"
"Man, I have no ****ing idea. I've been fighting these things for two games now, and I still don't know how to kill them. Prayer? Do you believe in prayer? Yeah? Then pray. That's the plan."

How about they just skip over the part where the other human says "we need a plan to stop them."

I cringe when I think how FemShep will have to say such atrocious dialogue.
Jennifer Hale will make sound it sound like an actual plan and a lot more cooler.

Come on that's way over the top. The line wasn't anywhere near as bad as some people are making out. As people have said it's just a marketing for trailer purposes. It's fairly obvious it was a renegade Shepard dialogue response - what he said is actually a fairly accurate summary of the situation they're in. Either they fight or they will die. It may not be the sort of one liners you expect to see in a trailer but they put it in there to get people pumped for the game. They way people are reacting you'd think it was the worst one liner ever. Also this doesn't mean Shepard is going to start spewing Marcus Fenix style one liners - we don't know the context of that conversation. It's possible that at the point of the story, the Reapers have destroyed multiple worlds and Shepard is just pissed off at that point.

Well, it's at least better then Mass Effect 2, which didn't even had a plan.
Err... Maybe you had to go the bathroom or something during that -- "little part" which could be called, "Planning the Suicide Mission... www.youtube.com/watch
Now many people who posted on the first page of this thread seemed to be of the opinion that it is a "Troll Thread"
kreite: I believe that he's expressing his opinion that the line there spoken was cheesy/stupid
Why he's posted it here at all I know not
Warheadz: I presume that's a line from a demo or a trailer or sumthin'.
And
what Sheppy means by that line is that unless we fight against the
Reapers, an inevitable doom awaits and they will all die. Sure it's
slightly macho, but it ain't stupid enough to make a thread about.
Mr.Kusy: And here you guys are, taking ChristianSoldier's toppic seriously...
bobobo878: I don't remember who, but one of the moderators said that we're drawn to troll threads like flies to a corpse.
I disagree... Suspend your disbelief for a moment.Your in 2185 ( or whatever year it is when Commander Shepard says this) and you either heard Shepard say this in person or heard about it over the extranet.Without a doubt, pundits, bloggers and radio personalities and thier audeince would be calling in about it, giving there two cents. After all -- Shepard Commander is the most recognised human being in the entire known galaxy.
The kind of things that are being said here, are not all that different from what people would be saying there...But I can't help but think that alot of people here with there comments have only been reacting to what Shepard said, instead of thinking about what he said.
We all know that Shepard is a gifted public speaker.NPC's acknowledge as much. Some say that they think that what he said is a Renegade Option.I'm not so sure..
-- When i think about Shepard's Paragon Interupt in defense of Lia'Vael nar Ulnay[/b] during the mission Citadel: Crime in Progress www.youtube.com/watch He pushes the volus Kor Tun.He grabs the C-Sec Officer Tammet by his shirt and get's right in his face.
-- When I think about how Shepard goes about convincing Kal'Reegar to 'stand down' (with Paragon choice and Interupt) www.youtube.com/watch
I come to this conclusion..Paragon Shepard is not soft and Renegade Shepard doesn't have a monopoly on aggression. <_<
A natural question that might follow hearing Shepard say,"We fight or we die! That's the plan..." Is "Err.. Okay. How do we fight ? What's our style ?
Now I'm going to do my best to put Commander Shepard's words in context and play out the scene, as I see it in my mind; as his 'Speechwriter' .
Shepard: "We fight or die. That's the plan.. " Shepard stops speaking for a moment after saying this and looks out at all the different alien races in attendance. He figures that they are perplexed by what he means by that -- so he continues.
"We will fight, like the Turians.
We will fight, like the Asari.
We will fight, like the Salarians.
We will fight, like the Krogan.
We will fight, like the Racchni.
We will fight, like the Geth.
We will fight, like the Quarians...
Among my people, there is an old saying,"Know thy Enemy" :innocent: But I say to you today... As good as it is to know one's enemy -- It is better to let your enemy know you!
No sacrifice is to great.
No quarter shall be given.
They will come to know that they face a power -- A force -- That is willing to DIE before we let them win!! "
Thunderous applause accompanies Commander Shepard's rousing speech... That's my interpretation, anyway.

Was shepard hit in the head or something?
I love that line!
The first game had Shepard working for the Council who are literally retarded and too hard headed to listen at all to availible intel from their own agents. They're constantly questioning every move and ignoring any and all eveidence brought into light, with the exception of a single recording found by Shepard.
And then there's Admiral Hackett who happens to see Shepard as an easy way to pass on his job to someone else. The Alliance isn't stupid like the Council is, but they only use Shepard as a pawn.
In the second game Shepard worked for the Illusive Man who used Shepard to recruit people for a suicide run. The entire time the Illusive Man does not trust Shepard, feeds Shepard wrong information, and has Shepard clean up other Cerberus messes. Whenever Shepard finds out something and reports it the Illusive Man easily smiles, drinks his drink and says "Yeah, I already knew that. Keep building your team for that crazy suicide mission. You can kill a whole planet and/or space station can't you?"
And now after all this, here's someone who's telling Shepard to wait, so they can continue to think and sit around while the Reapers destroy everything and everyone. And Shepard's just as fed up with these kinds of manipulators and hard-headed politicans as I am.
We fight or die. That's the 'plan.' Get your asses in gear and help me or stay out of my way and die.

Example:
Asari Councilor: "We need a plan"
Shepard: "We fight or we die, thats the plan. You can't reason with the Reapers. Diplomacy isn't going to make this problem go away. The Protheans tried running and hiding, look where that got them. Either we fight, and we stop them, or everyone everywhere is going to die."
