Processor: AMD Athlon™ II X4 635 Processor
Clock Speed: 2904 MHz
Physical Memory: 8.00 GB
Display Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 5670
VRAM: 1.00 GB
Sound Adapter: Speakers (2- Logitech G930 Headset)
Driver Version: 6.1.7600.16385

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
DirectX Version: DirectX 10.0  (Mar2009) or later

Mass Effect 2.exe: v1.02

Resoultion: 1600 x 900 (16:9)

(The following applies to both ME and ME2)
1. The game will freeze up and after about 20 seconds will minimize itself and then maximize itself as it seemingly corrects itself (I will refer to this as The Reset).  Sometimes but rarely the screen will turn colors during this. Even rarer, it will glitch up so that lines of blurry blocks will flicker across certian parts of the screen/enviroment. Such as the outline and part of the inside of the planet that appears at the menu screen of ME. Next time this occurs in ME2 I will be sure to take a screenshot. This problem will only go away a few seconds after it starts up or won't go away until I reboot the computer.

2. The Reset can occur during hub-activity, combat, dialogue but I have never seen it occur during cutsences. I remember really having a bad problem with the Resetting when talking to Vigil in ME. Normally it doesn't occur very often, anywhere between a half hour to two hours and it takes less than a minute to correct itself. It doesn't keep me from playing the game it does act like a hiccup in gameplay though that is a nuisance. However I am starting to get concerned since I figured ME1 was just having trouble with widescreen play but the same problems seem to have carried over. I also experienced very infrequent crashing in DA2 that I think is unrelated but I'm not so sure anymore.

4. I have not noticed a pattern to the resetting or the blurry blocks as far as it concerns when and where it occurs.

5. The only sort of editting I did was in ME1 I used console commands to give myself paragon and renegade points so that I could make the decisions I wanted to for when I imported into ME2.

I would appreciate any assistance on the matter and thank you for your time.

Sounds like either your video card driver is glitching out, or the card itself is statring to fail.
What is the catalyst revision you are running?

11.5

Is it my card? I had it checked out about two to three months ago and they said it was fixed. All my other games have been working fine.

What was wrong with it before?

By the sounds of it it's either overheating or it's dying. Those sorts of glitches happen in both cases though usually more when it's about to kick the bucket.

It sounds to me as though the GPU's cooling fan has frozen solid, or at the very least, running far too slowly.

Obtain and install a monitoring utility such as ATI Tray Tools or SpeedFan to find out.

Before, when playing any game it would seemingly randomly crash with solid or striped screens of various colors. It would require a hard restart of the PC. I sent it back to the manufacturer and they said it should be fully functional now.

I'm going to start to recording it during game play using AMD system monitor. I'll post some of the results so that we can see if its overheating or what.

@Gorath: What makes you think that?

11.5 is a fairly stable release of the drivers, so it sounds like it could be a heat related issue, as Gorath alluded to with his comment about the fan. If the heat isnt being drawn away from the card efficiently, this will cause the IC's on the card to start cooking, and will begin to fail as a result.

What can I do to prevent that? Should I manually turn up my fan speed or something?

If you have a utility which can measure and log the speed of your vid card fan, as well as the temps it gets to, I would suggest using that, and seeing if the fan stops spinning or slows down significantly while the temperature is climbing.
Failing that, take the cover off your PC, and manually keep an eye on the vid card fan to see if it slows down or stops.
