As much as I love giving options to the player, this seems like something that definitely should not have been possible (although funnily enough, I think making your healer a Blood Mage is a great idea due to the ridiculous mana efficiency you get out of it).

I always make Wynne a BM. It gives her infinite resources to both heal and assist dps with Stone Fist and Blood Wound just to name a few.

I usually do just for the attribute bonuses, as I prefer to keep Wynne primarily as a heal bot, and not a shapeshifter or a front-line fighter. While I don't have her pick up any of the blood mage talents, I figured the boosts to spellpower and constitution couldn't hurt.

I used to for the attribute bonuses but you are right; it is totally out of character. Now I always make Wynne an arcane warrior and Morrigan a blood mage. BTW, if you have Terra-Ex's Morrigan patch and are a blood mage when you do the Tower, Wynne will accuse you of it after Irving is rescued - which really sucks because then you have to kill everyone, including the quartermaster, so there goes your lyrium supply.

Wynne doesn't have to actually use or purchase any of the blood magic talents. The circle tower is full of books, including ones about blood magic, so she could have some knowledge about blood magic, even if she doesn't acually practice it That might justify picking up the spec for the boost to spellpower and constitution, as a throwaway spec.

My do's and dont's for a (non-)PC mage
- Shapeshifter: I would never use on any mage. Why have your healer run around like a bear???
- Arcane Warrior: I only use because I like the whole Warden Commander Armor outfit on my PC (but in combination with a staff it still looks weird). Besides +10 Strength for Battledress of the Provocateur.
- Healer: I always use on any mage no matter what.
- Bloodmage: I only use on non-PC mages, not because I like Bloodmagic, more due to lack of better. Had Arcane Warrior been switched with Battlemage and the latter would have been in Origins I would never have used Bloodmage.

So while it is strange seeing Morrigan talking about being a Shapeshifter while she is Healer/Bloodmage, but as Shapeshifter she is just not usefull to me.
Same goes for Wynne. 2 out of 4 are not usefull so for my RP playstyle that leaves only the Healer/Bloodmage combination.

An arcane warrior doesn't need +10 strength for battledress of the provocateur. Combat magic uses the magic stat for that.

You can use a staff with your arcane warrior, but I usually only switch to a staff if melee combat isn't a good idea during certain fights. Usually I dual wield and stick with spells that can be cast with a weapon drawn. You can cast the heal spells, glyphs, crushing prison, petrify, mana clash, and etc. with a weapon drawn.

Silly melee Arcane Warriors :P

Also while she never speaks of it, there are dialog changes if you make Anders a bloodmage in Awakening.
