I don't think it opposes her character, but I agree it's silly in such a time. Especially when these species themselves are in ways superior then you and have different beliefs.

Welp, Christianity technically got outdated a pretty long time ago, but that doesn't prevent otherwise reasonable and sensible people from blindly believing in some abstract god. It's just a basic human nature and i don't see why would it change in Mass Effect future

Didn't say it wouldn't exist. Doesn't mean it's less silly to me. But we probably shouldn't discuss religion anyway. It always brings out the worst in people.

Trolls aren't what they used to be.

You're not an atheist, you're a christian in disguise.

See, so obvious.

Where have all the subtle trolls gone?

Yep. and trust me we "trolls" don't ever get tired of this rhetoric. Did you want to call me a basement dweller as well or are we done here?

* facepalm *

What's idiotic is to think that nobody will believe in the gods, just because there are other aliens or because humans exploring space.

There will be always beliefs and religions, maybe news, somewhere. Yes in the future there will be still religions, probably not the same. Deal with it.

Asari, Turians, Drells, Hanari, it's the same of Ashley, so why just Ashley ? Don't play Mass effect, If you're so fool.

I do belief that the story of Mass Effect is not abouth religion hence forewarths they leave it somewhat open. Still you have to admit that religion is ever present on this world meaning deep down their is something in every person that tries to give meaning to the unexplainend even if they have to make it up, to fit in with the group socially and to impose or values as universal facts.
Both these mind sets are roughly universal and they give us comfort. For this reason Religion will never disapear.
None of this has anything to do with Ashley or Mass Effect

Oh i am sure you would just find some ad hominem to use.

Since you do not have the intelligence to tell the difference between a plot hole and a characters personal beliefs that have no connection to or interaction with the plot in any way you really aren't worth the trouble of troll baiting.

Im gonna bow out of this thread, but thank you.

You have given me a nice long laugh.

I romanced her in me1 and she was the better of the two options, the only thing I didn't like was the whole I believe in god thing. I mean, religion is very persistant aint it? Even when we explore different planets and run into new species we still find way to justify the existence of some super diety? I don't get it. Her being religious is so inconsistant with everything happening its like a mega-plot-hole-of-death. So my suggestions is to make her more consistent with the mass effect reality(and reality in general).

I think she's the only character to still believe in God. You'd think space exploration and the whole reaper threat would be enough to DISQUALIFY the existence of any super entity. Sad really. Make the character more believeable please.

And no I won't argue why since it's completely not related to Mass Effect and very religion related.

I HATE debating religion on Internet.

That's because on the internet, no one puts up with Religion's crap. Like we are forced to do in real life. So suck on it theists.

Religion is stronger than ever in our real world for better or worse. No need to assume that will change in the future.

Since most people are religious in some way it would be foolish of me to underestimate them over a minor detail like their religion. The same goes for Ashley, there is more to her than her religion.

Maybe you are forced to put up with religion in your real life, but smart people that don't believe don't put up with it in real life.   I have always been one to not shy away from telling people off.  I do it online and offline.

With that.  Believe what you want.  It matters zip to me.

No it is not.  There are more none believers now than every before.  Espeically in Europe.  Not here in the State though, but more and more people are starting to see that religion is nothing but BS.

Any religious text, is nothing more than a book written by man to control men.  God never wrote anything.

This is a silly topic. She believes in God because she's written that way. And there's no reason why she shouldn't, she even says a lot of people don't understand her faith... It's totally fine for you not to as well.

Ever watched Star Trek? Lots of aliens believe in dieties too, it's not because you're traveling the stars you shouldn't have a religion.

edit: This thread looks like it's heading to lockdown land. Religion is never a good thing to debate on gaming forums.

Does that mean that all the other characters in ME who are theist have glaring plot holes, too?

*scratches head* .. Why should humans be any less (or more) inclined towards religion than the other races, whose religions we hear about (and in the case of thane, get to ask him about)

It's funny because the OP probably blames religion for discrimination and intolerance to difference.

False. atheism is rising is the fastest rising minority. I'm not surprised. the longer we exist, the more religion crap is debunked. I'm not religious in anyway, do not project your false feelings onto me.

Just know that atheists are viewed the with same ''omg your stupid'' by a
lot of people. You are no better than theists, just different.

What is you and these false assertions? Let me tell you something, atheists are viewed as the scum of the earth, arrogant, angry, evil, demon spawn but they aren't viewed as "stupid". Most people think we are elistist dicks who only acknowledge science. and i'm so guilty. So we are different, thiests believe in things without proof, Atheists don't. Thus, shocker, we look at life very different.

Dear TC,
If you want to understand why she still believes in god, read this book called Xenocide by Orson Scott Card.
Also, just because life is found out side earth does not mean God does not exists. It just mean God did not just make life on one world.

Are we still talking about Mass effect or religions in the real life ? You should be careful with your words. This thread shouldn't be a pretext to spit out your hatred of religion. First everyone don't care what you think, and it is against the rules of this forum.

While we respect each person's personal beliefs, we do not allow insults, ridicule or hatred against people on these forums based on religion, politics, race, age or sexual preference.

Thank you OP and have a nice day.

OHHH RIGHT! you happen to be the only person in the world who is not subjected to religion. Right, right. What about all those national holidays that we are forced to take. fking Christmas.  What about the fact that gay marriage is still illegal in America? is that not you being subjected to religious beliefs? Don't fool yourself. America is a largely religious country and you are forced to deal with christianity.

Yes, the real one. you know with all those SILLY laws based off of religious texts. the ones I must abide by? This is a religious society, we don't even have to go as far as laws. Let's talk about customs. "god bless you" "Jesus christ!"
