When I fought the geth, I didn't HATE them. They were my enemies and they served the Reapers, but I didn't hate them. As for Leigon becoming a squad member, they made it clear that he wasn't part of the geth faction that I had fought. Throughout the course of the games, there have been no good Batarians. They have always done one or more of the following:
Been racist towards Humans
Tried to kill/Threatened/Pulled a gun on Shep
Massacre Humans (Bring down the sky)
Poison Humans (Bartender)
Been Criminals (EVERY BATARIAN ON OMEGA)
Been Slavers (Atrocities described in colonist side mission)
Been Goddam Terrorists
My point was, If Bioware wanted to eventually give us a Batarian Squaddie, they would have made a few good Batarians to be able to sympathize with, Instead of the above. It's not gonna happen.

Bioware can change the batarians easily in Mass Effect 3 but the reason I think there isn't going to be a batarian squaddie is because the reputation of batarians among the fanbase has been fairly negative, sort of 40-60 or 30-70. I would like a batarian that breaks all of those stereotypes so it will be more interesting. Not some violent, slavery-supporting, human-hating ass****.

It is well documented that Batarian raid colonies and enslave people. Whether they are part of a Caste system is completely Irrelevant. It doesn't make their victims any less slaves.
The reason why Batarians are so unpopular is Because Bioware wants it that way. They're not going to do a 180 because some fans want it.
If they do go that route, I want it to be a choice as to whether or not he joins the team. I know my Ruthless Colonist Shep wouldn't allow a Batarian on his ship.

He could even be representing the Council at Shepard's trial when the attack on Earth happens. He could escape on his own and you meet up with him again later and he, having seen what the reapers can do, offers to join you. There is a ton of option for dialog, like why he stayed a Spectre when the Batarian govt. left Council jurisdiction. His thoughts on slavery; and the convo I'd want to have the most is with him being a Spectre would he have done what Shepard did at arrival...there are a ton of options and it would not be too hard to implement.

They'll change their tune when the council erects a big ass Vorcha statue in the presidium in honor of them saving the galaxy from husks.
