To answer your question, its because we've become attached to all these characters because of their writing, and how said writing appeals to our sense of attraction, thus making us feel attracted to them. Conversely, the opposite applies as well, leading to trolls going 'OLOLOL U BUTTHURT UR LURVE IS NOT IN ME3 BUT TALI MY WAIFU IS!1! LOOOOL!'

Which is pretty damn often, which means a whole lot of these douchenozzles are right here, right now.
